Sip Cafe checks all my boxes for a great coffee shop: an attractive, comfortable space to hang out,…read moreindependent, non-commercial vibe, friendly staff, baked goods made in house, and of course good coffee. I only had an Americano and a muffin so I can only judge by first impression. The coffee was decent and of course made from locally-roasted, fair-trade-certified beans. The chocolate espresso muffin was good but was kind of "cake"y; it lacked textural interest like chocolate chips or a pleasingly overbaked top. Good flavor though. As I sat with my coffee and planned my day I took in the surroundings. Clean and modern yet retaining a cozy, homey feel. Wood tones and brick dominate the decor. I perused the other food offerings and found a fairly limited selection of baked goods. Several muffin types were available but no croissants, cookies, scones etc. It was late in the morning though so they may have sold out of them. They have breakfast sandwiches made to order, lunch sandwiches, salads, and soups. All looked good. A whole counter dedicated to gelato! All empty though; maybe it's just served in summer? An astoundingly large selection of teas, the many canisters taking up most of the wall space behind the counter. Wish I liked tea! And - very unusual for a coffee shop - beer and cider (all local, craft brands) and wine! Probably coming back tomorrow for beans to take home and maybe sandwiches for a picnic lunch.

Coffee is good, food is mediocre. Service depends on who is behind the counter. When Sip first…read moreopened the food was great I feel bad saying that it has lost something along the way but it's true .

My husband and I took his uncle and aunt out for lunch at Memories and overall the food was good…read more It's a cafe where you order and pay at the counter. Then they give you a number to place at your table. Once your food is ready, they bring it to your table. It was my husband's and my first time there, but my husband's uncle and aunt are regulars. They had their usual orders, which were the Club Sandwich ($8.50) and the BLT ($6.25) I got the Fish Cakes with Chow Chow and a side garden salad ($11.95). My husband got the Chicken Curry "Panini" (either $8.95 or $9.95, I forget). The sandwiches do not come with sides. My fish cakes were quite good. They were a little more potatoes than fish, but still flavourful and tasty. It was my first time having chow chow (which I've been told is a very Nova Scotian thing) and I would describe it as a green tomato relish. It went well with the fish cakes. The side salad was mostly romaine lettuce with some cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions and grated cheese. The dressing was a creamy ranch. The salad was nothing special IMO, but ingredients were at least fresh. My husband's "Panini" was more of a grilled sandwich, as the bread was sliced sandwich bread and not the bread one usually associates with panini. It was pressed in a grill though. He liked it, but it looked too mayonnaise-y for me, lol. My husband's aunt and uncle enjoyed their sandwiches. Staff were friendly and the place has a relaxed cafe atmosphere. There aren't that many places to eat out in Liverpool (NS), but Memories seems to be one of the more popular places. There's free parking in the town lot, by the information centre, which is really close by (well, everything in Liverpool is close by, lol, but you can literally see the cafe from the parking lot).

Accommodating and extremely friendly folks with excellent hand pies!…read more We are traveling on three east coast on NS, where each and every town has its signature flavor and feel, whee Mahone Bay is no different. It was mid-day, where a snack was needed to get us to dinner time, and Yelp to the rescue again. A quick search turned up Famous Town Pie Shop, and what an excellent choice this was in more ways than one. It turns out Yelp's hours of operation for this place are wrong, so we showed up just as they were closing. Being the chubby Merkans that we are, I tried the door handle and they were still open (thankfully). We were greeted with favor though as the nice staff welcomed us to try the last pies of the day. I asked for them to surprise me with whatever was available and settled on two savory pies. Uh-mazing! It had been a while since I'd last had a really good savory pie, and good ones are most certainly not available in the Southeastern U.S. of A, so this experience was amplified a bit. The crust was spot-on, the fillings were flavorful, and the portion size definitely is large enough for most North Americans. Once we scarfed down the pies outside, the owner came outside and gave us some outstanding recommendations on NS and excellent conversation. I would visit this place in a heartbeat again if we are ever in the area. This is one of those little gems that we love stumbling upon in our travels.
