I've been popping in and out of this shop since I was about 10 years old. My earliest memory of the…read moreplace is when Granddad lived around the corner on Dyas Road and would always pick up his Evening Mail from there. I find it very satisfying that the shop is still there and looks pretty much as I remember it as a kid. Whilst it's changed hands a few times over the years it's still a reassuring fixture of the Kingstanding Road. These days I drop in once a month or so to buy tobacco, or some other 'essential' (is tobacco an essential?) as I pass through Kingstanding. As well as a newsagent this is also an off licence - it wasn't like that in my Granddad's day! - so, if the mood takes you, you can always pick up a beer or two for a reasonable price.

A large public car park is located just over the road, for shoppers visiting the Hawthorn shopping centre and several bus stops are within walking distance. Inside, the store is clean, spacious and very well organised. Though small in size, logical organisation and lack of makeshift shelving make ensure that the store never feels cramped, and friendly staff make every visit here a pleasant one. The prices are surprisingly good too.

As you many know Hall Green is a large residential area therefore there are a lot of news agents so I think what would make Sai news stand out is having a larger selection of food and drinks and possibly sell stamps. I thought the owners were friendly as they gave a good greeting when I walked in. The prices are cheap, which is great for everyone who wants to save money and especially as I am a student.

Who knows...) was lovely - really smiley and pleasant. It was also extremely well-stocked - with anything you could ever want from parcel tape to plastic toys - oh, and plenty of newspapers/ magazines, of course. They also had a great selection of general groceries, and the shop was clean and well-presented. Probably the best newsagents I've been to in the past few weeks. Also, they seem to be very reasonably priced - for example, the chewing gum I bought was only 40p - I've paid twice that in some newsagents....

If I'm every after a drink, snack, or something to read on the train, I always head here instead of the much larger Smiths down on the station concourse. Newsflow's main selling point is the surprisingly expansive selection of magazines that they have on offer, with more than their wall space seems capable of holding. The prices haven't been ramped up with the proximity to the station in mind, either (a sharing bag of sweets retails for less than £2, which is competitive for anywhere, even large supermarkets), and the staff are always friendly. Even better, there's rarely a queue, meaning it can often prove to faster to go upstairs to Newsflow and then come back down to catch your train than it is to go to the nearby Smiths and queue for five minutes.

He treats all his customers fairly and works very efficiently making sure everyone has the correct amount of attention. The shop has a calm and friendly atmosphere whenever I go in, its very tidy and organised with all the essentials you need. Going into a stationary shop, like WH Smith, on a busy afternoon can be annoying, hectic and…read morefrustrating with all the people around. They can also be expensive. If you've read some of my other reviews then you'll know I like it when a business goes the extra mile and does something different to make themselves stand out from their competition. Supernews does this by selling stationary as well as everything you'd expect from a regular newsagents so I think the name 'Super' suits it well. Acocks Green is a large residential area so Supernews makes a nice alternative for people to pick up stationary just before, or during educational terms. It's also convenient to pick up a newpaper, tobacco and a snack as there aren't many places that offer this in Acocks Green; unless you want to go to a cafe and pay higher prices.

A greeting that would be more suited to coming from the mouth of a company rep greeting a valued customer at an airport arrivals gate, than me, a humble stranger in this shop. 'Are you a student?' he asks, 'Because I've never seen you before.' He clearly knows his customers well... The name on the sign says what the shop deals in, but on this small parade the shop has developed into a convenience store too, selling tins of potatoes, tuna and beans, packets of pasta and jars of jam. They also sell a range of mobile top-up cards from companies like Lebara and Lyca Mobile who offer cheap calls to overseas as well as to customers calling the same network. They have a bargain bin of short shelf life chocolate and I could do with some fuel. Wispa Gold isn't at the high end of the nutritional scale, but at 50p for two bars, it's what I want now at a price that's right.

You know how 'what's on' and local guides are kind of cheap, tacky looking things filled with…read morerubbish you have no interest in? Fair enough, they're free right? You can't expect high quality design, print and content from a free guide, right? Area Magazine begs to differ. From the same people who produce the wonderful art/music/culture guide 'Fused', Area is a monthly pocket sized guide which contains all of the coming attractions in Brum. Gigs, shows, theatre, art, special events, and it's all present beautifully with original art, top notch layout and design and illustrated covers by various up and coming artists. The magazines are in all of the local hotspots, if you want to know what's what in Brum you should go pick one up. The only problem is that they are so nice you won't want to throw them away when you're done and you can end up with quite a hefty collection!
