There was even a personal door-opening service when I visited. I'm not sure if the door is opened for every customer. I'd like to think they were just being chivalrous towards me personally, but in fact I think they were probably just wondering what the heck I was doing loitering outside their shop, taking photos of the front. That said, I was personally escorted out the door on the way out also, so they can't have been that suspicious. This seems extremely well stocked, if not a little bafflingly so: in a sort of 'Is it a newsagent? Is it a cafe? Is it a stationers? Is it a home store?' way. But then again, better to have too much stuff than too little, I suppose. The sandwich ingredients didn't look amazing, I have to say. But I appreciated the slightly random doorman service.

The staff in there were really friendly and very polite, which always makes a nice change these days. I found what I wanted fairly quickly and ended up buying lots of junk food and about three magazines. They put it all in a bag for me and asked me what I had planned for the evening (although I think they could guess I had no exciting plans). Overall, I think that this is a really good store, it stocks more than expected and the staff are very pleasant.

To me there was nothing unique about this shop but what makes it stand out is that there are no other local news agents. So it's ideal to pick up a news paper, chocolate bar, magazine and/ or drink whilst you're shopping. They also have a wide good selection of products. As you may know Acocks Green is a large residential area. I think what would make Raza news stand out from its competition is having a small selection of food such as fruit, and drinks and possibly sell stamps. I thought the owners were friendly as they gave a good greeting when I walked in. The prices are cheap, which is great for everyone who wants to save money and especially as I am a student.

I love the fact they have a £1.00 table in the centre of the shop, selling goody bags of sweets and chocolate. The staff are also friendly and helpful, adding to the character of the place. You'll struggle to find another newsagents quite like this in the city centre or anywhere in greater Birmingham for that matter!

If I'm every after a drink, snack, or something to read on the train, I always head here instead of the much larger Smiths down on the station concourse. Newsflow's main selling point is the surprisingly expansive selection of magazines that they have on offer, with more than their wall space seems capable of holding. The prices haven't been ramped up with the proximity to the station in mind, either (a sharing bag of sweets retails for less than £2, which is competitive for anywhere, even large supermarkets), and the staff are always friendly. Even better, there's rarely a queue, meaning it can often prove to faster to go upstairs to Newsflow and then come back down to catch your train than it is to go to the nearby Smiths and queue for five minutes.

Towards the back of the shop, they sell all of the basic foodstuffs and household products you'd expect, including bread, canned foods and washing up liquid. I was quite impressed with this shop, mainly because the lady who served me was really friendly and jolly. That said, they didn't stock my favourite chewing gum (Wrigley's Extra Ice White, for what it is worth). They did sell chilled Diet Coke in a can, which is the best drink in the whole wide world. The guy who owns it is very friendly and they are open nice and early for emergency milk runs and hangover breakfast ingredients. It's used by all the local residents and sits opposite Kings Heath park, perfect for an ice cream or cold drink in the Summer. Rehman News saves you from having to hit the High Street to pick up your local paper and although I might struggle to isolate it's one great achievement other than it's location, it does an ample job of serving this neck of the woods.

A nice surprise then when I dropped in a couple of days ago for a chocolate bar - a Toffee Crisp if you must know - and was immediately greeted by a different man and a tidy, fully stocked shop. With a Costcutter and another newsagents only a few hundred yards away, this shop has to work for its custom, especially as it has no other shops near it. However, it is next door to The Bell, which is where I suspect it gets most of its trade from. A happy little newsagents run by a happy man (he's not the tallest, but 'happy little man' just sounds horrible).
