All went well until the day of my trip, one hour before my trip when I messaged the shop and no one replied. I logged into the turo app, only to find that my rental was cancelled. No message, no heads-up, no call. I panicked and called support right away only for them to tell me that the previous customer didn't return the car AND that they don't have any other car available to rent which ended up ruining my memorial day weekend.

The car was stinky, almost like a litterbox, but also smelled like Febreeze or something was used heavily in attempt to deodorize the car. This made the smell worse. It was also dirty on the outside even though it was parked in a garage. Check in and check out were both slow and agents did not know how to deal with a corporate account. It took over 45 minutes waiting to check out. Calls to the Newport location were not answered. Every time I called the main customer service line it took a long time to get through the system and then had to be transferred to the special agents who handled corporate accounts. The positive is that the location and hours are convenient.

When I go to Jersey City to pick up the car, the agent said there are no Tesla cars available at all! The options are: 1. take the downgraded car 2. Give up the space and let others take the cars. I asked, "Why did I order the car with prepay fee and no car for me to pick up?" The answer was, "That was done by the system, we have no control here, we can only give whatever cars are available." That's the Hertz deals with the customer, either their system is obsoleted, or their business process is to take the money from the customer first, when customers show up, they have no choice but to take whatever car Hertz gives to them. After a 45-minute wait, we were upgraded to a small crossover vehicle, really a compact car and is raised up slightly. We couldn't get all our luggage behind the rear seat so we had to put our extra piece of luggage on the rear seat. It was good that we only had 3 people in the car. And of course, they charged us the same rate as a full size car.

INCREDIBLY the emailed reservation confirmation even showed a photo of a Hyundia Kona! The shocking "take it or leave it" attitude was a surprise too. I asked the incredibly indifferent employee at the Lyndhurst location if he could call their Belleville lot if they had an SUV, and he read out the number and instructed me to call number myself. The Enterprise in Belleville told me they had SUVs, but when we got there the only SUV they had was an Equinox that was all-electric and out-of-charge, and it would have cost me $15.00 more to rent. My Jeep is at the dealer's as there was a recall, and Chrysler graciously offered to recompense me $50 a day for a rental, fortunately they will also consider renting from Avis, Hertz and Budget too. Everyone I dealt with was friendly and had answers to any question I asked. Made renting a vehicle from them very easy and pain free. I ended up using two vehicles and both were fine. They were clean and very nice. I went with a Nissan Altima and was very happy with it. The reason I needed two vehicles was because I ended up with a flat tire on the first one. When I reported that I had a tired going flat they directed me to come back to the shop. I had a new Altima and was back out on the road in twenty minutes. No problem at all. If you need a rental car I highly recommend them.

(Their cars generally are not equipped with an E-ZPass transponder, so you can just pay with cash and avoid getting hit by the TollPass fee. As for my request to get a car which hadn't been rented in several days, the answer was that most of the cars have just been sitting idle since it's been a slow time of year.) The agent who served me in the morning of my rental was friendly and efficient. She didn't try to upsell me on any optional services, but rather just presented them on a tablet and I could decide for myself what I wanted. The car I got was a slight upgrade from the class I chose and was very clean. I asked about after-hours return and she showed me the drop box to return the keys. When I went to return the car that night, the parking lot was full already. Both the local branch and Enterprise corporate were out for the day, so I went to ask the front desk of Candlewood Suites (which owns the building that the Enterprise branch is part of). The concierge was rude and unhelpful, and clearly didn't know what she was talking about. When I told her the lot was full, she suggested that I should park in another lot, but didn't give any specifics. She then claimed that Enterprise would give them a list of cars expected each night for security to monitor, and that my car wouldn't be part of the list. That made no sense, as I had made it clear to the Enterprise employees that I would be returning it that night. Finally, I reasoned that it was probably fine and that Enterprise wouldn't tow their own car so I parked it in the middle of the lot and hoped for the best. I called back the next morning and confirmed that they had received the car back safely. The behavior of the Candlewood employee is not Enterprise's fault, but I will deduct one star due to Enterprise failing to advise their customers that it is OK to double-park if the parking lot is full (a very real possibility, it seems). Maybe they should also give some instructions to the Candlewood people so that they are equipped to answer basic questions after hours.

I have never rented a car outside of the boroughs, and never will again. I get there, and its about 5 cars in a small lot, walk into the place, show my reservation ticket which states "You do not need to reconfirm your booking with the car rental agency or hotwire." The man begins, "Russ, we have a problem...." Basically, he had booked 8 people for 4 cars (I could see the list so he just showed it to me), he claimed that he could not get my phone number to, uhhh, confirm the CONFIRMED car...even though I checked with hotwire that they have it on file. So he proceeds to lie to my face, and say that he can't do anything for me, but that his buddy up the street at enterprise has one car left, I'm sure for a price that is considered more than rape. I gather that this is all happening because I found a good price and others had booked at a significantly higher rate. We argue slightly, I give him the finger and walk out as he's calling me condescending names. So here I am, back in Manhattan, without a car and unable to carry out my Thanksgiving plans because all this douchebag cares about is money. Fantastic, worst case scenario.

I called a month and a week in advance to make sure that they accepted debit cards and both times they reassured me that they did. When I got there though they completely disregarded that and were down right rude to me for not having a credit card to use. And then cancelled my reservation without settling the issue. Horrible staff and horrible customer service. Do not go here if you want to rent a car. You will be scammed one way or another without a doubt. I would bet my life on it that this company is running illegally.
