Many of the reviews are VERY old and I think for other campuses…read more ILTexas (North Richland Hills campus) has undergone some big changes over the past 2 years. These changes have (mostly) been for the BETTER. My child has been here since the doors opened (before the students were even learning in the big, beautiful building). While that first semester in the temporary location was tough, we are very glad that we stuck it out. The 2nd and 3rd year were amazing. COVID was a struggle, but ILTexas teachers continued to teach online EVERY day. Not just quick weekly Zoom meetings like all of the surrounding ISDs did...they were there EVERY SINGLE DAY (1/2 day for the little ones so as not to keep them on the computers too long and full days with the older students. They were there until the end of the 2020 school year and even did virtual summer school. A few years ago, there was a lot of changes in administration (Principals and Assistant Principals), which was followed by a lot of teacher changes, as well. Again, glad we stuck it out because the new Principal has really changed the school around! They even got a handful of new international teachers from the Philippines last year. At school events, they all seem so happy and excited to be there. I will be sad when my child goes to the high school because this place really has been home since 2016-2017.

No-one at the front office knows what is going on. I do have to stay administration does have everything together, but the teachers and the principals themselves do not know what's going on. Apparently they (Connor) don't know it's not legal in Texas to expel a kindergartener but they threatened to do so twice..... they feel like it's better to expel a student than to help one. We decided to pulled our grandson out of there quick. If your child has ADD, ADHD or autism, I would not recommend ILT. Public schools have more resources and know how to handle it properly. I was very disappointed with the NRH ILT campus.

We will be back in the fall, on this wooded campus, to be part of the treetops family. Where can you go to school where everyone knows you, and your family, and cares, and supports you in the parenting quest you have embarked on? The teachers actively seek to know your child and seek ways to teach them effectively. This school is not in a rut, like so many. Teachers are happy here, as are the administration. There are some sacrifices, like no transportation or hot lunches. There are a some after school activities. All and all, 5 stars. I trust them with my family, and it has been well deserved.

However, the staff does a great job utilizing the resources they have to provide a very safe and sufficient learning environment. The staff, from the principal to the teachers to the lunch staff, are all amazing. They put the children's best interests ahead of everything else. The PTSA is very active and sponsor many fun events for the entire family. The curriculum is very sufficient and the GT program allows students to excel. My daughter only has 15 kids in her class so the attention she receives is far better than many other schools (even in our district). Upgraded to 5 stars. Congratulation on being a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School.

STEER CLEAR! - a former student…read more I was an Alpha-Omega who almost graduated from here. I transferred out in High School and found that every other school in this area is better than this cesspool of toxicity. First of all, faculty here is horrible. I would say 10% of them are decent people, 70% are rude and incompetent, and 20% are EVIL PEOPLE who should NOT be let around/allowed to work around kids. Over my time at the school, there was multiple issues with discriminatory teachers (who chose to belittle children off of race, gender, religion, etc.) and teachers who had questionable actions towards students. All of these issues get swept under the rug, of course, because the Oakridge way is to never take accountability for their wrongdoings and push it onto the child somehow. Any problem with faculty is dismissed by Admin, and if something of severe consequence happens to your kid, good luck getting anything fixed. I had many horrid experiences with teachers, as did a lot of my classmates (to the severity of which any other school would fire them for) and the school always conveniently managed to find an excuse or spin it to where it was on the kid. This was a common occurrence for a lot of students; more than just me. The Headmaster as of right now, Mr. Burgy, really cares about the kids at the school, but the board (filled of people who get free tuition and haven't been enrolled in 10-20 years) severely limits and hinders any meaningful and good progress in the institution. The board is the one pulling the strings behind Oakridge, and that's the biggest issue. They don't spend any time on campus to learn about issues, and instead go off of their outdated experiences. The students aren't much better either. Lots of bullying and hurt took place here, but that's the environment the school breeds. The school claims to care about bullying, yet when I was getting death threats and cyberbullied online, they wanted to turn a blind eye. (I've yet to determine if it was because one of the bullies was a teacher's kid, or just negligence like previous bullying instances with other students.) Seriously, save your kid's mental wellbeing and your pocket from endless therapy bills by avoiding this place. If you don't listen to anyone else, listen to me, someone who lived this school for 13 years; who grew up here, and was discarded and treated like trash.

They do not know how to treat children and should never be involved in education. Secondly, in the previous school year my children told me about a bug infestation that lasted about three weeks. Th small roaches would surround lockers and even bathrooms. Additionally, large roaches would crawl out of water fountains that students often drank out of. Everything is unsanitary and they do not care about student safety and health. The lunch is really bad as well. I've heard cases of spoiled milk, apples that are green inside, and slightly raw meat. Although packed lunch can solve this, not everyone can afford packed lunches and this school should know to properly nourish students. The school has no preparation for sports and is only focused on STEM, which isn't bad but students do not get enough movement after grade ninth. The principal is rude and took off the senior ceiling tile portraits after calling them ugly, but labeled them as "flammable". He also does not know how to speak to children and has a nasty attitude. Other Harmony schools are not like this, only this one that is too small and horrible.

The growth we've seen in him academically has been incredible in such a short time. He's more confident, more engaged, and clearly developing at a higher level than before. What stands out the most is his teacher. The level of care, attention, and genuine love she shows for each student is something we've honestly never experienced before. You can tell she's not just doing a job she's truly passionate about helping these kids learn and grow. We also absolutely love the Christ-centered environment. Our son comes home talking about Bible verses, singing the songs they learn, and sharing what he's being taught. It's been amazing to see his faith grow alongside his education. That combination means everything to us as parents. We're beyond grateful to have found this school. It's made a real impact on our son, and our family and we're excited for what's ahead.

This is our review of the school concerning any vulnerable children or children with disabilities…read moreattending Mercy Culture. Far stray and cry from Godly intervention, love, grace, mercy, or protection in our estimation. Our family has five children enrolled at Mercy Culture Preparatory, and this year alone we are paying over $50,000 in tuition. We chose this school because we believed we were choosing a truly Christ-centered environment where Jesus, honor, character, and protection of children came first. Our experience has been heartbreaking. Our son has a speech impediment, which is a recognized disability, and he already struggled with self-confidence because of it. Throughout the school year, a student at Mercy Culture Preparatory repeatedly harassed, antagonized, and bullied our son. This student's family is very involved at the school, and one of the teachers' boyfriends lives with that student's family. That relationship made the school's lack of action feel even more concerning to us as parents. After this repeated harassment and bullying, our son's emotional health declined significantly, including depression and suicidal thoughts. In our view, this was not normal childhood conflict. This was repeated emotional and psychological bullying of a vulnerable child. The school knew. I personally informed the superintendent twice. Multiple adults were aware of incidents involving this student and our son. Yet from what we experienced, this student received no consequences. There was no detention, no in-school suspension, no out-of-school suspension, no serious protection plan, and no intervention that actually stopped the pattern. The other child's parent later told me the school had not even contacted them about the prior incidents. That is very hard to reconcile with a school that repeatedly talks about "honor." Our children had never received a detention, in-school suspension, or out-of-school suspension before this. Quite the opposite, they have been praised for their attitudes, behavior, and performance at the school. Then, after our son finally reached a breaking point and handled the situation the wrong way, the school immediately disciplined him. We do not excuse the physical altercation, and we told our son that in this particular situation, it probably should not have reached that point. But we also believe this situation should never have been allowed to reach that point in the first place. We were first told he would receive a two-day out-of-school suspension. The very next day, the school changed it to three days. Then, during the suspension, he was not allowed to receive his schoolwork to complete from home. For a child already emotionally impacted by repeated bullying, it felt like the school failed to protect him before the incident, then punished him academically afterward. What hurt even more was that when we pushed for accountability, we felt questioned as a family. In one conversation, the pastor connected to the school made a comment that came across to us as suggesting we may not "belong" there. For a family with five children enrolled, asking for basic protection for a vulnerable child, that was deeply painful. Mercy Culture Preparatory presents itself as deeply godly and Christ-centered. But in our family's experience, when our vulnerable child needed protection, documentation, parent notification, accountability, and compassion, the response did not match the values being promoted. A Christian school is not proven by how often it says "Jesus" or "honor." It is proven by how it treats the child who is hurting, isolated, vulnerable, and inconvenient to protect. Based on our experience, I would strongly caution families who are looking for a safe, truly Christ-centered school to look very carefully before trusting Mercy Culture Preparatory especially if their child has a disability, social vulnerability, or needs adults to step in with courage and consistency.
