STEER CLEAR! - a former student I was an Alpha-Omega who almost graduated from here. I transferred out in High School and found that every other school in this area is better than this cesspool of toxicity. First of all, faculty here is horrible. I would say 10% of them are decent people, 70% are rude and incompetent, and 20% are EVIL PEOPLE who should NOT be let around/allowed to work around kids. Over my time at the school, there was multiple issues with discriminatory teachers (who chose to belittle children off of race, gender, religion, etc.) and teachers who had questionable actions towards students. All of these issues get swept under the rug, of course, because the Oakridge way is to never take accountability for their wrongdoings and push it onto the child somehow. Any problem with faculty is dismissed by Admin, and if something of severe consequence happens to your kid, good luck getting anything fixed. I had many horrid experiences with teachers, as did a lot of my classmates (to the severity of which any other school would fire them for) and the school always conveniently managed to find an excuse or spin it to where it was on the kid. This was a common occurrence for a lot of students; more than just me. The Headmaster as of right now, Mr. Burgy, really cares about the kids at the school, but the board (filled of people who get free tuition and haven't been enrolled in 10-20 years) severely limits and hinders any meaningful and good progress in the institution. The board is the one pulling the strings behind Oakridge, and that's the biggest issue. They don't spend any time on campus to learn about issues, and instead go off of their outdated experiences. The students aren't much better either. Lots of bullying and hurt took place here, but that's the environment the school breeds. The school claims to care about bullying, yet when I was getting death threats and cyberbullied online, they wanted to turn a blind eye. (I've yet to determine if it was because one of the bullies was a teacher's kid, or just negligence like previous bullying instances with other students.) Seriously, save your kid's mental wellbeing and your pocket from endless therapy bills by avoiding this place. If you don't listen to anyone else, listen to me, someone who lived this school for 13 years; who grew up here, and was discarded and treated like trash. read more

I have enjoyed my experience here. I do not feel pressured to donate, and I do not think my child is treated differently if I do not. My child is getting an excellent education to prepare her for the world stage. read more

You can find so much better for the money. There is nothing challenging about their lower school education compared to other schools . If you don't work at the school or are a big donor, your kid will be an outsider . It's a liberal school . Not a whole lot of electives for higher education to experience . And most disappointing of all is the students there are so entitled and their parents support that kind of behavior . Again , the students with parents that work there or families that donate big can act however they choose and administrators and teachers will let them get away with it. Teacher turnover is higher than you would expect from such an elite school. read more

The Oakridge School is our home away from home. It has been a place where my daughter has thrived since PK. As she is entering into the college selection process, I have never been more confident in our decision to have her at Oakridge. Please check our other private schools in the area and start comparing. You can really do better for your money in arts, education and athletics. It has really declined over the past 10 years. They really don't know what to focus on and are behind in many areas. Take a look at college acceptances compared to other private schools and past years. Take a look at a national merit finalists compared to other schools in this price range. There is little transparency towards parents about anything. Your input is only accepted depending on your financial contribution. read more

Both my daughters attend Oak Ridge. We took them out of Mansfield schools because the class sizes were too large for our oldest. She was very overwhelmed by public school in general. It was an adjustment to private school culture and our daughter did experience some girl drama in 4th grade. Now in 5th, the girl drama has subsided. Our second daughter started her 1st year at OR this year and began 2nd Grade with Mrs. Snelson. Couldn't be more pleased with her teaching and how caring she is with the kids! No school is perfect, but I feel that the faculty at OR really try their best to be their best for the kids. I recommend to start your children at OR young due to advance learning and curriculum. The kids are a year or more ahead of what is taught in public school. We are 2 years in at OR and will keep our kids enrolled till their graduation. read more

Oakridge is special among private schools in the Dallas Fort Worth area, partially because of its racial, gender and social diversity of the student body and faculty. But one of the most important distinguishing factors for us is that Oakridge tracks the progress of its students in post graduation college performance and adjusts its curriculum to address future student needs. read more

The Oakrige School is a not a very high achieving school. The academics are watered down in the high school and the students are pulled out of classes just about weekly for non academic events. Grades are inflated and the teaching staff is weak. The athletic programs at the school also are poor. They have many banners hanging in the gym, but most of them represent 9th place. Looking at the tuition, facilities, and quality of teachers, you would be better of at just about any other school in the area including the public schools. Don't waste your money and your child's opportunity to learn by sending them to this school! read more
