I can't really knock on this place other than the price. The chocolate eclair's filling wasn't that tasty, but the chocolate gave it flavor. My first full sugar free bakery and I must say it wasn't bad. Naturally, when you have sugar your whole life, you forget how food should taste and this was a nice reminder. I had the fruit tart. So I was on a diet and really thrilled to find a sugar free bakery. I tried the lemon bar and thought...oh my...sugar free??? Mixing that up with calorie free...ugh...so my husband and I took turns buying almost one of everything and stuffing our faces. We were amazed at how delicious everything was. My husband and I had been meaning to try this place for awhile so when we finally got the chance to pop in after dinner last weekend it was a real bummer to find a disinterested, uneducated, and annoyed cashier waiting for us. She didn't greet us, or even say one word to us at all until I asked about one of the items. She gave a short disinterested answer. We bought a small bag of chocolate chip cookies and my husband, son and I were all unimpressed with the taste. Tried Bye Bye Sugar Bakery over the Thanksgiving holiday. We ordered a special cake for a diabetic member of the family and it was delicious for being sugar free! It was very moist and didn't taste any different from a regular sugar cake. We also bought some of the candies and cookies which were also very good. Granted I went at the end of the day so i'm not sure if it makes a difference in the baked goods but I bought a banana bread loaf and to tell you the truth it was dry. The flavor was good. It had some chunks of banana but the moistness of typical banana bread was lacking. I agree that you don't get a nasty aftertaste from the sweeteners but I wasn't wowed. The bakery does smell like a chocolatey heaven and I regret not getting any. They do have a variety of other goodies that I want to go back to try so I'm willing to give this place a second chance and I'll update my review after an éclair! :) read more

To start off, I don't have much of a sweet tooth. Never did. I'm also a health nut so it works out great for me. I hate anything with artificial sweeteners or desserts that are overly sweet. I don't even eat cake on my birthday. But every once in a while I crave something sweet. I guess I'm still human after all. I had no idea everything in this bakery was sugar free until the cashier told me. Lightbulb moment. They use Stevia which is a natural sweetener. I was initially elated upon finding this out but got quickly worried the chocolate chip cookies I was holding in my hand would taste like dirt. Boy was I wrong. They weren't overly sweet like most cookies but they weren't bland either. It was just the perfect amount of sweetness for me. I couldn't believe it! I recently went sugar free and I've been missing chocolate and treats ever since. I discovered bye bye sugar and had to try it. I was surprised by the variety of sweets they carry and that have no sugar! I purchased a tiramisu and a chocolate cake. Tiramisu was great. A little dry but they did better than I expected considering that there was no sugar. Apart from being a bit dry, the flavor was exquisite! I enjoyed every bite of it! For my mother in laws birthday I bought a cake. It was extremely sweet and delicious! I couldn't imagine they did not use any sugar! We gave up sugar almost 3 years ago and this bakery has been a lifesaver for social occasions that require baked goods. long story short, i had one problem after another with this place. would never go back. if you want details read on...otherwise i'm sorry i was longwinded, but i'm frustrated and this just happened today. so i needed a sugar free cake for my godson's one year old birthday! The problem was I only needed a small cake for him to mush with his fingers and eat. The cake for everyone else was made with sugar from a local bakery. (he is possibly diabetic so we are careful) anyways, I called this place and asked if they could make a small cake for him. The girl on the phone said they could only make large cakes, nothing small. Then she told me about their large cakes and other products. She mentioned what sounded like a possibly smaller cake. Because I live 40 minutes from this place and their website is down I asked her to describe it. all she could tell me was that it was 3 in tall, she could not tell me anything else (width?). I asked her to compare it to something so that I could see if it would work. "is it as big as a hand? bread box?" she kept saying "i don't know..." she told me i could buy a piece of cake. i thanked her and hung up, thinking how unhelpful she was. Later I thought, "oh wait, maybe i could buy 2 pieces of cake and have them put frosting on them together as one small cake" I called back and she acted like that was a ridiculous request. she convinced me that the small cake was perfect for what i wanted. I asked her again, "can you compare it in size to something?" she said, "they are like our tarts" again I told her how I've never been there and I have no idea what their tarts look like. seriously!?!?! she finally found some dimensions for the tarts 3in tall 4in wide. so we decided i would buy this and she gave me all the different toppings, fillings, icings i could have. so 2 days later (monday) they were closed and I called and left a message with my order. i asked them to call me so i would know they got the order. tues night, no calls yet. so i called them . A different woman answered the phone and said they did not get a message, then in the background I could hear the machine playing "one OLD message" and it was ME! she then told me that i can't specify what kind of cake i want. that all i can get is a choc cake that is small. no other kinds. I asked her if i could have different icing or a name put on it. NO. i couldn't believe that they were being so unaccommodating, i'm not asking for the moon. i showed up to pick up my dinky sized (not the size of the tarts, a post-it note was bigger) cake, reluctantly because it was my only option of anything sugar free in orange county after many phone calls, searches. when i got home i opened the box and she had closed the side of the box on the cake causing it to cut the cake in two pieces like a knife. long story, bottom line. i will never use this place. its probably fine if you just show up and buy something premade. read more

I tried this bakery because my friend said they make their products with Xylitol, which is a natual sweetener made from hardwood that does not affect insulin levels. Anyway, I gave it a try. I asked the guy at the counter what brand of Xylitol they use, and he said he didn't know (I imagine that's because he had never heard of Xylitol). Most of the products I tried were great, but the reason I'm writing this review is because I learned today (after reading the OC Register article BBS posted on their website), that they sweeten their products with Spenda and Sweet & Low, which are NOT natural sweeteners and have been known to cause cancer. So, I'm recommending to the owner to eductate his staff on the difference between natural and unnatural sweeteners. Myself and my friend (and I'm sure countless others) feel that it's better to eat real sugar, which is natural, that to eat chemicals, and that information should be disclosed in an honest way to customers. read more

Wife and I love bakeries and found this one on the web. We visited around 3:30 P.M. last Saturday and were pleased with the cleanliness and neatness of the displays. We wanted some yogurt but the machine was being worked on by the owner so we ended up chatting with his wife who was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the products for sale. We ended up buying a couple different flavored turnovers that were excellent when heated up and generously filled. We will come back to try some other healthy treats and check out the yogurt. What a great place! This small bakery can really deliver. There are a few tables and chairs so you can enjoy your treat right on the premises. I bought a box of 6 macroons to take home. We tried Bye Bye Sugar Bakery for the first time, by buying a cheesecake for the holidays. We were delighted with the quality and taste! The texture of the filling was soft and creamy, it wasn't overly sweet at all, there was no after taste and best thing of all is that it had no sugar! We went back a few days later and bought some cookies. Although the cookies were quite crumbly and I had some difficulty getting one out of the package without it breaking, they tasted very good and I wouldn't hesitate to buy more. We had a nice chat with a woman there who I believe is one of the owners and she mentioned that they supply quite a few local grocery stores as well. We will definitely be going back soon! read more

I have ordered two birthday cakes there and they were wonderful! The cake was so moist and we got the whip cream frosting. Everyone raved about them. I had them add fresh strawberries which we love. They were very helpful and nice. I have also had their NY cheesecake and it is the best! I will order one of those for our next event. Their homemade chocolates are really good too. UGH!!! This bakery uses the very CHEAP, but stomach-wrenching sugar substitute, XYLITOL. After consuming one-half of a brownie, I had an upset stomach and diarrhea for several hours afterwards. They need to start using HUMAN-SAFE sugar substitutes like STEVIA! I will not be buying any more of their products unless they start using a safe sugar substitute. read more

Saw the reviews on this site so I went to the bakery ordered and paid for a birthday cake for my sister-in-law, asked for it to be deocrated as a birthday cake, when I went in to pick it up it said Happy Birthday and it had 6 little carrots on it. I asked why there were no flowers like I had asked for the girl said " we told him to do flowers" I said well there are no flowers on the cake. Her answer was "Oh Well" She never offered to fix it and I was late, I had pre paid 30.00 for the cake so I took it the way it was and decorated it myself. Needless to say I will never go back.
