However, after a long vacation of not so great food all I wanted was a burger. I am not going to comment on the music or decor (besides saying it was terrible) as I am not the target demographic. But I will comment on the service. Our server was horrible. I think she might have been from America because she spoke with an American accent. Right after we ordered she went behind the bar and started whispering with her friend and rolling her eyes while looking over at our table. However, whenever she came to the table she was smiley and fake and tried to make conversation. When we first ordered two diet cokes and a ginger ale, she brought two ginger ales and a diet coke. She semi-apologized as though she had realized her mistake before getting to the table but since the had already opened the bottles, we decided not to complain. We all ordered burgers. They were alright in that I didn't get food poisoning but they were very bland. I probably would have gotten a better burger if I had gone to McDonald's or Burger King if that tells you anything. At the end of the meal, my mom ordered a water. Instead of bringing tap water, the server brought bottled water. This would have been a minor annoyance as tap water is free while you pay for bottled water. However, again she opened the bottle before coming to the table and she brought 2 bottles instead of one. At this point I was irritated and beyond giving her the benefit of the doubt. We paid for our mediocre meal and incorrect drink orders and left as quickly as possible to escape the horrible music.

With only a few tables in the place you quickly make new friends and end up dining next to strangers. We originally sat with a couple of local Germans and after they left a musician from the local college joined for her meal. Great schnitzel options here and true charm stood out for us. Would highly recommend this place to others in Heidelberg.

The weather was beautiful for sitting outside. I wish I had gotten our server's name because he was outstanding. Friendly, witty, and willing to help navigate the menu - he made our dining experience even better. We started with a couple of local wines that were amazing - a red and a rosé. Some bread and butter came to our table with our escargot starter and side salad. The bread and starter were delicious. Our snails were hot and garlicky with plenty of juice to sop up. The side salad was also very tasty and fresh. For our mains I went with the Schnitzelbank Platter and my lady went with the Pepper Schnitzel. My platter came with a local delicacy called saumagen, as well as roasted pork, sausage, roasted potatoes, and sauerkraut. The saumagen was the highlight for me. Our server was also excited we got it. It is a local offering consisting of various meats and other items wrapped up in a stomach and served as a loaf-style meat. The pepper schnitzel was also outstanding - the sauce was indeed peppery, but it didn't smother the schnitzel, which was breaded nicely and not dry, as some schnitzels can be. And after all that food, still, an apple strudel. This was so worth it. I don't even like sweets in the USA, but in Europe, they are something else. This was something else. We had a lot of great meals on our trip, but this was probably the best. Not just for the food, but for the overall experience, it's easy to see why this is the shining star in Heidelberg.

In retrospect it was the wrong choice. It comes with two slices of French toast (not very sweet, definitely not the same as US style French toast), a croissant, a crepe with chopped fruit inside, and some cheese with assorted jams. I was honestly kind of confused which jams etc went with which option, and sadly none of it tasted good. I actually traded 1 piece of French toast with my friend who ordered the healthy breakfast option for a bit of protein. The chai latte was mostly milk, very sweet with hardly any spice. My other friend ordered the omelette and said it was much better. It's a cute spot. No wifi. I guess this spot is trying to be a trendy brunch spot, but as someone from the US it didn't come close to the quality we have there. I wouldn't go again, but if I did I would try to order something more authentically German.

The fresh pressed orange juice is just the start, followed by a barista who knows how to make good coffee, a fresh basket of bread & the main meal. Everything we ate was delicious. The service is quick and friendly as well. Next time I'm in town, I'm coming here.
