This restaurant had reasonably priced steaks that is Argentina flavor inspired. On the menu, there were different types of steaks, fajitas, and American appetizers. I ordered the smallest ribeye steak with baked potato, pepsi-cola light, crepe argentina and coffee. The steak was cooked perfect "medium", but the steak did not have much flavor (being that it's Argentine steakhouse). After adding some crushed black pepper and salt from the table, it tasted much better. The meat was tender but had a bit too much fat on it, so I had to constantly cut pieces around it. This was mentioned in one or two of the other reviews I had read but we had to give the place a go. So many colleagues had put this on their "Great Steak" list in Mannheim. For my money, Maredo could be better average. Steaks were cooked to the right temperatures, even after we performed the linguistic gymnastics to accurately described what we wanted. The was a nice selection of side dishes and these were also at least average. The cuts of meat were plentiful and had a good balance of meat vs. fat even though they were not aged. Where Maredo disappoints is seasoning heir meat. I couldn't even detect as much as a pinch of kosher salt nor a single grinder twist of pepper. Just nothing to make the meat "pop". The other let down for me was dessert. I had been in Germany for two weeks and this was my last dinner before coming home. This was the first time I saw apple strudel on a menu so decided to go for it. What I received was something soggy and doughy that tasted and felt like it was fresh out of a microwave. Two bites and I was done, left the rest on the plate. If the chef decides to make a stop in the spices aisle of the local market and pick up some basis spices and they manage to get some fresh strudel, I could see the stars just flowing in. I went to Maredo 5 times in a 2 week period. I went to the Heidelberg location. The steak on a rock is best steak I think I have ever had. Item 201 or 205 on the menu, I can't remember. Steak comes out sizzling since it it still cooking on the marble slab. Make sure you get it more rare than you would like it because it will continue to cook. Ask for some herb butter. The chef came out and was very cool. He was a hippie from Santa Cruz, California. The decor wasn't very fancy, and a little dated, BUT who really cares, the steak was amazing. read more

I had high hopes for this restaurant since steak houses are a rare find in Germany. Unfortunately, I was sadly reminded that I was in a chain restaurant. As noted by many other reviewers, the meat was completely unseasoned. Our rib eye steaks were ordered medium done but were served medium rare. Our sauces (bernaise and pepper cream) did not taste as if they were freshly prepared. The salad bar was very nice and had a great selection to choose from. It all looked nice and fresh. The wait staff was prompt and courteous. If you have a craving for a steak, you won't be disappointed, but if comparing this place to more upscale restaurants, you will be disappointed. read more
