If I could give half a star I would. Where to begin? So last week was my first time actually going out to see an apartment with anyone from Buzzer Real Estate. I was scheduled to see a studio with heat included off the Bryn Mawr stop. I got there and was super excited about the building and area, only to have Daniel show me a completely different unit. Not only was this studio in a basement, but it was $25 more and included nothing. Why Daniel failed to mention this before I traveled all the way there is beyond me. Then when I pointed out the lifted baseboards which is a sign of previous flooding, he lied and claimed: "There would never be such problems in a building like this! In fact you will hear a maintenance main knocking on your door each month to check things out." Now perhaps I am a pessimist, but I don't view needing to have monthly maintenance visits as a good sign.
Despite this underwhelming viewing I decided to continue searching their online listings. I thought I was fortunate enough to come across three really promising studio apartments, and eagerly called their office twice leaving messages to set up appointments to view them. Boy was I wrong! I ended up receiving an e-mail from Daniel two days after my voicemail, referring to an appointment to see the same apartment I had just seen with him (I suppose I am not memorable). It was not until the following week that I got an e-mail asking about when I would like to go see the apartments, when I wanted to move, where, and if I had any pets. I of course promptly replied to this e-mail with a detailed description answering all of these questions and then some only to never hear from Daniel. As the week dragged on I decided to call to follow-up with my e-mail, only to speak with a very clueless Daniel who I could barely hear due to the screaming in the background of their office.
Basically Daniel ended up pawning me off on Josh to go see one of the listings I was interested in (nevermind the other two). When I asked about status of the other two places, Daniel told me he couldn't answer that question and to ask Josh later. Naturally I felt a bit confused since he was clearly sitting in front of a computer as he spoke to me. Fast forward to the day of my appointment, I decided to call Josh at 1pm to confirm our appointment, as instructed by Daniel. Please note: I was told to call BY 2 for my 3 o'clock showing. Josh picks up the phone and seemed to be annoyed that I was calling him so early to confirm. His rude response was something like this, "Wait, who are you? Ummm... I don't have time to look at my calendar for my later appointments, so that is why you shouldn't call me until 2... 2:30 to confirm. I am not focused on my 3:00 appointments just yet, I am more concerned about my 1 and 2 o'clock appointments."
Just when I was thinking Josh was the main jerk at this establishment, I get a voicemail on my work phone from Daniel asking me to call him right away. When I called him back I received a mini-lecture on how I provided him with a cell phone number he could not reach. I apologized and explained that my office has bad signal, but that I would be leaving in a few minutes and that my service would be fine long before anyone would need to contact me for the appointment. Daniel was most condescending when he did the fake apology of, "of course I understand... but you get why this is such a big issue." He ended the phone call by telling me the apartment I was supposed to see was in Rogers Park and that the area I wanted to see (Edgewater) was pretty much not going to happen so I should just see the Rogers Park studio. Seriously??? So by this point I decided to screw the whole thing and blew off the appointment. As I was told, if I didn't call them by 2:30 Josh would not show up, so I decided to let them get the picture that my not calling to confirm meant I was not coming. I ended up getting a text message from them asking what happened? How it took everything in me not to text back: "What happened? What happened was you all are horrible and rude and I have no desire to have you push me around about an apartment in an area I don't want to live in."
