Chelsea texted me the same evening I called DAC to understand my needs, which is the method I preferred given my busy schedule. My boyfriend and I were looking for an apartment in Chicago from across the country. Neither of us are from Chicago, we know very few people, and don't have a great idea or firsthand experience with the different neighborhoods. Given the current pandemic, we were aware that physically being in Chicago and seeing different apartments in person was not an option. After a few good days spent looking at apartment buildings in the River North area online, we came across Downtown Apartment Company. I think both of us were a tad skeptical as to what the "catch" would be when working with a real estate company and the agents, but we figured it was worth a shot. Isabella Pascente is one of the best professionals I have ever worked with - truly outstanding at her job. My wife and I relocated due to work from suburban CT to downtown Chicago during the pandemic. Isabella responds to emails and texts quickly (I don't think she sleeps), has fantastic insight into the city and its neighborhoods and located the perfect apartment for us. We thought we knew what we wanted when we reached out to DAC but after listening to Isabella and touring around the City for 3 days - we ended up in something completely different than what we liked on the internet. Let me start by sayin go with the locals. I called some of he other companies and ended up in a call center that was clearly just farming out work to people. I dropped them almost immediately. Then I tried the Downtown Apartment Company, it was like night and day.. in a good way of course. Let me not bury the headline: Call them and let them help you. It will be the best decision you'll make during your apartment hunting. My agent was Jessica Odehnal and she took care of everything. I sent her a couple links to places I liked and she did the rest. She sent me an itinerary with specific apartments about a week in advance. That gave me time to look at them and ask more questions. She was extremely responsive and usually got back within an hour, surprisingly, no matter what time of day. THAT is a go getter and the level of support I wasn't expecting. I met her at the first apartment (which eventually I decided on later that day) and it was a great experience. They knew her which immediately gave me confidence that she was well liked and professional. She drove us around to other places, but in the end we returned to our starting point. s we went along she helped me eliminate ones that were probably not a good fit, by the end of our journey, she definitely had a good read on what I was looking for.I spent at least 30 minutes going into two different apartments and just agonizing over the decision and she gutted it out with me. She knows the right questions even if you don't (hey, she is a pro after all though). We found out about 4 weeks ago that we had about 6 weeks to move to Chicago and panic set in. We have to sell our house! We have to find a new apartment! My husband had literally NEVER even been to the city! What to do?!! So I went out on a limb and reached out to the best Yelp reviewed apartment locator I could find. I was worried about this for a few reasons. 1. They do it for free (or at least, you don't see any direct charge) 2. I don't know these people 3. I am a control freak. How could they POSSIBLY do this better than me? But I had just started a new job and now had a house to sell, so I had no time for a cross country apartment hunt and had to have faith. Now, the nature of the beast is you can't really look too far in advance for apartments because, y'know, people who own them want to rent them ASAP. So as the days counted down, I STRESSED. This past weekend I worked with Alexa, who recommended to me by a friend. She is absolutely phenomenal. I am from out of town and had only visited Chicago once or twice a few years ago. Alexa was very prompt to respond to my email and we were able to set up a phone conversation within a few hours. Let me preface this review by saying I'm a little (ok, maybe a lot) crazy when it comes to apt. hunting. So when I found out I was potentially moving from Los Angeles to Chicago and had less than a month to find an apt., I did what any crazy apt. hunter does; I created an excel spread sheet with multiple categories and hired 4 different brokers while searching on my own on Craigslist. In the end, I probably saw about 18 places in 2.5 days or so. The first broker I met was nice, but I had found it on my own and nothing else she found fit my criteria, so she was cut from the team. The next day I met with another broker who seemed pretty egotistical, bragging about her busy schedule and trying to get me into places that were pretty outside my budget range. Oh and even though she had a car, there was never an offer to drop me off after a day of apt. hunting or anything. Pass. Then I met with a guy who seemed completely disorganized and couldn't care less. He had shown me some nice places so I'll give him that, but he also decided to tell me he got car jacked right near my new job. WHO DOES THAT?! Pass. And then I met Aysha. From her genuine friendliness to her relationships she had forged with all of the leasing agents at the apartments we visited, I had a pretty good feeling about her. After not dealing with apartment hunting for almost ten years it was time for me to get something in Chicago. At first, I tried to do it by myself but found there were a lot of things that weren't transparent with leasing agencies, condo associations, and renting in general. So I decided to turn to Downtown Apartment Company to find something within my budget and the area I wanted. I ended up with Paulina and couldn't be more pleased. She was incredibly attentive, flexible, understanding, patient, and thoughtful. She is definitely a pleaser, which is a quality you want in a broker/real estate agent. She made herself available, provided good candor, was honest and gave a realistic look at things without completely crushing dreams. She also completely got what I was looking for when it came to priorities in my apartment (an incredible kitchen, newer construction), and was open to listings that I found myself. The other key piece and something that I think is huge: when I worked with Paulina I genuinely felt like I was her only client (obviously she was working with others) but I got that level of attention and care. In the end, an agent like Paulina is going either completely do the groundwork so all you have to do is get to the showings and make the decisions or help you sift through what you've already found and made things THAT much easier, and believe me it was incredibly easier. Between contacting Paulina, and signing a place in February of 2019, it took four days. I also got the impression Paulina was okay with taking our time (I was just motivated). They say you need to give flowers to those that deserve them when they can still smell them, with that said I'm here to give Adam Valentino a dozen roses. I am in a translational stage in my life. My lease was up, I hated my current living location and made a decision that no matter what I was NOT resigning my lease and staying in D.C.
