We loved it from the first minute! We ordered the macaroni with cheese (it was penne but outstandingly scrumptious). The cheeses and caramelized onions were the perfect blend Also enjoyed the croûte with an egg.......this is much like a croque without the meat......it was heaven! The service is very nice, and patient (that is, way better than average in that part of Europe). Accompanied by some swiss Fendant, the meal is a delight, starting with some platter of dried meat and salami, croutes au fromage, or the even more appetizing "croutes au delices de nos bois", with wild mushrooms. We all had a fondue "moitie-moitie" for main, and it was one of the creamiest, tasiest fondues I've ever had. They also came with both bread and new potatoes, which is a much lighter version. They offer a small selection of rooms (I think they have 6 Doubles) - for a reasonable price. The rooms are clean and well equipped - nothing fancy but functional and situated right in the middle of the village. As mentioned before - you need to enjoy the Gruyere Cheese Fondue (moitié-moitié - half Gruyere half Vacherin Fribourgeois Cheese). You can get it everywhere in the village (I think all are good with this view lol). You can order some pickles and some potatoes as a side - standard you just use bread with the melted cheese but especially potatoes are working great too. I liked very much that they have some choice in half bottles - with the Cheese Fondue you typically drink a Fendat (White Wine) - I did like the Yvorne much better. And even when the fondue was quite heavy - don't forget to take a Meringues with the Gruyere Double cream (you can have a small portion too) - it is a MUST. The street is lined with tons of fondue restaurants so you can smell the pungent cheese the moment you walk into town. We ended up picking this place for our fondue experience. All the places here charge a lot for fondue. It's 26 swiss francs per person for just cheese and bread. If you want anything else to dip in the cheese, you have to pay quite a bit more. It is unlimited cheese but I will bow down to you if you can stomach more than one large serving that they give you. The cheese is indeed pungent. It's not like the fondue you can get in the states so don't expect Melting Pot style cheese fondue. This is in a class of its own. You may want to avoid this if you are sensitive to smell. They also have this other popular cheese dish where you get a block of cheese on the "Raclette" which melts the cheese from the top. You then scoop it with a knife. I didn't try it but got to see our neighboring table's. It looks really cool but the smell is even stronger than the fondue. They have other dishes too but you kind of have to try the cheese. The waitresses seemed to be running back and forth and never got to getting our order until like 15 or so minutes. There were other groups of folks who were eating already. some of them had fondue on their tables. We were sticking to the meringue as we already had our fondue the other night. The meringue came out and it was a bit not what I expected. The meringue itself was small, the pot of creme was small and well the pot of fruit was small. Regardless we stuck our spoons into the thick white pot of delciousness that is cream. It's pretty much what you'd think cream tastes like without any flavoring...just cream, but with the meringue it's magic. Add the forest berries compote and you're up in cloud nine. Too bad it was a little pricey and the service was a bit slow to begin with. What we learned later is that there was a whole upstairs restaurant with more people. The place was heaven to my nose as it smelled of melted cheese. On a different note, as we were devouring, I mean, savoring our double cream, another table had a contraption brought to their table with a large block of cheese. OMG it's a cheese melter for the raclette. As the cheese melts and sizzles you scrape it off and eat it with potatoes or bread. Darn oh well. Maybe we can do this next time. This lady gave us an attitude and made comments on everything we did. We were starving so when they served us bread before our meal we had some and then when the fondue came we asked for more bread because we saw that people asked for more bread and she was more than happy to get them more bread.
