Walking in, the space is mostly kitchen, with no seating (under COVID conditions). The previous (burger) restaurant that occupied this space before had only two tables of two and a counter in the window. There are currently two tables of four set up under a tent in the parking spaces directly in front of the restaurant. These tables could have been cleaner. In addition to TV screens hanging from the ceiling, there is a large menu on the wall with (I'm guessing) their six most popular items. I ordered the Tandoori(?) chicken from this menu. It included two leg quarters, salad, rice, naan, and a drink for only $9.99. Not a bad deal. It took about fifteen minutes for my order to be completed. A few other customers were ahead of me, also waiting, some impatiently. Once ready, I sat at one of the tables out front. Hmmm, no napkins? Only a spoon to eat with? Where's my drink? Once I got that sorted, it was time to eat. The chicken was a tad on the dry side and the flavours a bit understated. The salad consisted of lettuce, cucumbers, and red onions. The naan was large and fresh. The rice was plentiful, nice and fluffy. I'm used to bolder flavours in Indian cuisine. Overall, it was just okay. I'm used to bold flavours but I found the chicken a bit underseasoned. While the food wasn't bad, it wasn't as good as I was anticipating. Hopefully, these issues will be sorted out in time. PS - The fly strips hanging in the restaurant were a bit of a turn off.

Fast forward to 2021, during the pandemic, I had one of their lunch specials and it lacked flavour, especially salt. It really wasn't good. I decided to give them another chance recently, hoping the last time was an anomaly. It wasn't. It was just as bad as it was over a year ago - no flavour and tons of red food colouring! What happened? Did they lose their chef? Do they not care anymore? Reading through the reviews, summer of 2017 seems to be when things started going downhill. There are several consecutive one-star reviews. The most recent review, although favourable, was from two years ago! With several competing restaurants in the area, I can't give them another chance.

Definitely bring your friends, and order a family or sampler platter - I can't obviously vouch for absolutely everything on the menu, but the stuff I tried was all delicious, perfectly seasoned, and was a massive portion. I can't imagine a better first impression. Service is definitely "meh" (had to ask multiple times for water and sharing plates), but the food is undeniably delicious. We got the sampler platter 3 (serves 3 easily, four as a stretch), and a brisket sandwich to share amongst myself, missus, my brother and mother. The sampler platter came with two sides, so we picked Mac and cheese, and the mashed potatoes. The sides were both delicious, but the main stars of the show (brisket, Korean short ribs and pork ribs) were the star attraction - the reason why folks would come from far and wide to visit this restaurant. The ambiance is very minimal - almost grungy. The one single-stall bathroom can feel like it's overheating because of a lack of a/c or ventilation in the overall restaurant. Normally in the main restaurant this would be concerning too, but given the openness to the back grill and a large fan, you don't end up getting too much of the residual heat inside - or the "BBQ smell" that you'd normally associate with BBQ places. Anyway it's along old Kingston road. There's a small parking lot that serves the whole plaza that northern smokes is located in - the lot can get quite busy if all of the businesses are open, but we arrived when there were only a handful of businesses still open on a Friday evening.

Everything was absolutely delicious, with the seafood dishes being the top favourites of our group. Their platters of two lobsters or two crabs for only $34.95 are a great deal, especially the crabs. Don't miss their Beef Short Ribs, Goat Curry, Goat Curry, and everything else on the list above. It was all excellent! You have to try it for yourself. Their menu is also Halal! To quench your thirst, they offer a range of soft drinks, including Caribbean favourites, as well as adult beverages - wine, spirits, beer, etc. Their buckets of (5) beer are a popular choice among diners, with several brands available. One of my friends had been here before and recommended that we give Guyanese Chinese cuisine a try. I was game! I had no problem finding the eatery. It's in a small plaza with Grillies next door. I actually parked in front of Grillies and walked over to Caribbean Heat. The eatery was busy for a Sunday afternoon. It was a good sign. My friends and I ordered a ton of food, to the point where we had to get boxes to take home the damage that we had done... haha! We ordered these items: - Beef short ribs - Special chicken fried rice - Alex chicken with veggie fried rice - Goat curry with roti - Crabs in spicy garlic sauce - Cantonese chow mein - BBQ duck (half) - Pepper shrimp - Mixed vegetables - Hot and sour soup - Seafood soup - Sweet and sour basa - Lobster with ginger and green onion This eatery has a number of specials. We took advantage of most, except for the wings. The specials: - Pepper Shrimp - $8.99 for 15 pieces - Half-priced chicken Wings - Bucket of five beers for $29.99 - Two lobster or crabs for $34.95 - Alex chicken with veggie fried rice (lunch special) - $12.95 before tax Alex chicken is the chef's special. I don't know who Alex is. However, the dish consists of boneless chicken that's stir-fried with lots of onions and spices. It does have a bit of heat to make it a wonderful dish. The veggie fried rice that accompanied the chicken was delicious, too. I loved everything that we ate and will note some highlights: - The sweet and sour basa was excellent. The fish was flaky and boneless, and the flavours were perfect. - The lobster with ginger and green onion was fantastic. One friend was allergic to shellfish, but risked it because this dish was so good. I'm guessing that he has a mild allergy because he's fine. - The goat curry was excellent. Not gamey. Tender. It came with roti on the side that I enjoyed sopping up the sauce with it. - The BBQ duck was yummy. I haven't had duck in a long time. It was tender and I loved the skin. - The pepper shrimp were gigantic! I loved how tasty this dish was. It had lots of green bell peppers and onions that I enjoyed with the shell-on shrimp. I used the washroom a couple of times during our three-hour stay. It was clean. No complaints! We had a terrific time chatting, enjoying one another's company, and feasting on a bunch of scrumptious dishes. The menu had fried banga Mary as an appetizer. I'd like to try this dish that shares my first name. I'll be back for more when I'm in the area. (172)

Clearly, we made an excellent choice, because my entire family was so pleased when they dug into their meals! We ordered online and, like mostly everything else that I've ordered on line, it would likely be better if I ate in-house or even picked up my order. However, it was, nonetheless, excellent, satisfying, flavourful food. Here's why its worth 4 stars: My husband ordered a 2 falafel combo, and reported that it was done perfectly. The falafel balls were plump, crispy and tender, and the sauces that he ordered complemented the wrap perfectly! Next time, he said, he will order turnip. The turnip wasn't listed as pickled, but actually it is, and it really enhances the foods. My son said that his chicken shawarma was "one of the best that I"ve had in Pickering." However, he mentioned that he would have preferred the pita to be more robustly toasted. This, however, could have been a result of the wait for delivery. My duaghter had wings and fries. She loves her food extremely seasoned, and added MSG to hers, but otherwise found them to be excellent. I ordered the chicken shawarma plate. I chose tabbouleh rather than salad, and that was excellent, and very generous with the parsely. the chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the rice was beautifully cooked, with long grains that did not stick together at all. I have tried, and never succeeded, to get this same non-sticky and long grained finish on the rice, so the rice was a treat. The turnips and pickles perfectly complimented the dinner. Although the menu doesn't stipulate, the turnips are pickled and very tasty Overall, this is an excellent restaurant, and an outstanding shawarma place. It's family run, and I really enjoy supporting local restaurants. It is conveniently located at Whites and Kingston Rd.. There's plenty of parking, but not always totally close to the restaurant. We will certainly be ordering from here again!

Although I don't eat Afghan or Middle Eastern cuisine regularly, I do enjoy it. With three vertical rotisseries, the house specialty seems to be chicken shawarma. It looked good, but I had a craving for beef so I ordered the Beef Kebab, served with with rice, salad, and a choice of naan or a drink. The beef kebabs are made to order so it took a few minutes. At least I knew it was fresh! The included salad is also assembled as ordered, with your choice of ingredients. The seasoned rice was also freshly made. The entire plate was dressed with a variety of seasonings and sauces. Finally, the meat was placed on top and also dressed with sauces. Nice! Everything was delicious and I could see that it was obviously freshly made to order. The meat was well seasoned, tender, juicy, and flavourful, especially with the sauces on it. I even enjoyed the salad, where every component of it seemed fresh. This was a very good, flavourful meal. Beyond the good tasting food, the two fellows behind the counter were friendly and engaging. I think I'll have to come here more often!
