I took a detour to Vassey's after taking a friend to another nursery that is known for their vast…read moreselection of plants and gift shop. Vassey Nursery was such an unexpected surprise! A word of warning, Google Maps might send you to the wrong driveway across railroad tracks (as it did us) . This must happen A LOT because there was a sign or two stating that it was private property and to not drive any further! We backtracked over the railroad tracks, started driving parallel to the tracks on the main road and the correct directions kicked in. We went with it, and glad we did! Helpful staff, a nice selection of common plants as well as ones that are not so well known, or varieties lesser known. In the heat that we've had this summer I was very impressed that the plants did not seem at all stressed from lack of water or sunburn--like the previous nursery we'd just come from, not to mention my own garden! Not easy to do, so wanted to note their obvious care of plants. Nurseries have become quite pricey but felt this was reasonably priced and in comparison to Watson's, a very good deal! I bought a few things, having only wanted to get some ideas for fall planting. I couldn't resist! I most definitely will be back.

We got a massive tree at a very reasonable price. Customer service was excellent and it had the same smell as the hardware store I used to go to for popcorn when I was a kid. The only down side, and it isn't much of one, is I wish they trimmed the tree when you bought it. When we got home we had to do a little snipping in our apartment to take care of stray branches. If you like cute décor or you're looking for a gift, this is a good option to look at! This is, of course, a plant shop, of which they have a large selection with many variety, though the prices I saw were steep in comparison with other plant shops in the general area. They had almost all the plants I'm currently looking for on my list, but the specimens were either in poor condition and/or more expensive than other shops.

I purchased one of their Palm Trees just before closing last Friday night. I spoke to my daughter that evening and discovered that my kids had gone together and bought me a Palm Tree for Mother's Day. At 9am Saturday I returned with the tree and explained that my family had purchased a tree for me and would be heartbroken that I had already bought one. It was still in the original bag and I had the receipt. The owner wasn't there. The employee texted him and his response was "No, we sell these for a third party so we don't refund". I bought it just before they closed Friday and was there right after opening Saturday. I am certain he still had my money and hadn't yet paid it to "a third party". Not the way I'm used to be treated by a retailer who cares about their customers!! Seriously, I've had better service at Walmart. I will never go back and will share my story with my South Hill friends and neighbors.
