Master Y Kim is an amazing instructor, capturing and keeping the kids attention with fun exercises and learning experiences. He knows every kid by name, seems to genuinely care about their progress and is great at recognizing where kids need extra help. Ms Petra is always there with a smile on her face to greet children and parents alike, and to make sure the kids have the best time. No matter how busy she is, she always makes time to ask how you are doing. The program at Master Chang's blends taekwondo instruction with character building skills and experiences. The staff and class helpers foster an atmosphere of positivity, support, and respect amongst the kids in a fun and engaging way. My child looks forward to every class he goes to, and this is the first activity where he hasn't complained once about going, or asking when it will be over.  We recently also had his birthday party there and it was super fun for all involved, including even the parents who got to participate in the taekwondo lesson, watch a performance from the talented demo team of students from this location, and hold boards while their children broke them with the skills they learned at the party. Parents let us know how much fun their children had and commented on how engaging Master Y Kim was specifically. I highly recommend anyone to try out taekwondo classes at Master Chang's and specifically this location.

Either you know what you have been learning and practicing, or you don't. A colored belt doesn't change who you are and what you are capable of. Regular classes are an hour long and will have healthy food served afterwards. You are not kicked out of the school when you finish your class, instead you are encouraged to stay and practice and workout with your fellow kung fu brothers and sisters. It is a large school with two main practice rooms, a bag room, and a gym room. There is also a kitchen with a dining area and two private rooms that can be used for meditation or massage therapy. Sifu Smith teaches a few styles of Tai Chi, Bagua, Hop Gar (Tibetan Kung Fu), Choi Li Fut, and a few other select more private styles. Its rare that you find a teacher that has a great lineage, and its also rare to find a teacher who is exceptional at teaching. When you find a teacher that has a great lineage and is a great teacher, consider yourself fortunate to learn there. We have students there who have come from various martial backgrounds from people who have run their own schools, to people who have never stepped in a gym. There is no judgement, only encouragement. Sifu Smith also is good with children, including children with special needs. I encourage you to visit the school and see for yourself. You can visit the webpage at: www.tibetankungfu.net

While I didn't lose all of the weight I…read morewanted (I like the vino a bit too much), I crushed my earlier sit-up, push-up, and squat baselines that we did at the beginning. Coach Erik is fantastic, knowing just how much to push the class and individual. He's encouraging and patient. But he doesn't let you slack off. Dr. Gunther was also helpful in getting a diet plan for me. Since I completed the 6-week challenge, I'm now doing the Cardio Kickboxing class. If the last time you did a sit-up was when your evil coach in HS who mocked you in front of the football team told you to do one, then the 6 week challenge is a perfect intro into the more advanced classes. Coach Erik doesn't play around in the CKB classes! Also looking forward to doing Krav Lvl 1 classes as well. Finally maybe it was just a fluke, or maybe Molotov hires really good coaches, but the 6 week challenge class really gelled together and several of us are friends now on Facebook. I think that has a lot to do with the coach and the atmosphere of the gym. Highly recommend to my fellow mid-40's overweight IT workers out there. #beastmode!

Per NC law, you are allowed to back out of this kind of agreement within 3 days of the initial sign up. I tried to back out and was stonewalled on the phone and subsequently treated with hostility by Molotov's wife, Greer when I went into the club in person. They refused to refund me and I ended up just cutting my losses rather than fight them on it. I have no doubt they are excellent Krav Maga instructors but if you prefer to spend your limited time on this earth meeting good people rather than snakes and bullies, you should consider a different club.

Hands-down the best place to learn self defense. I've been to a handful of Krav Maga / self defense…read morestudios, and Krav Maga Raleigh is definitely my favorite. I've been training here for 6 months now, attending every class my hectic work schedule will allow (usually 4-6 classes per week). It is a very affordable studio, and your dues get you access to unlimited classes each month. Additionally, you also have access to fitness / kickboxing classes that will really whip you into shape. The instructors are all incredibly knowledgeable and accommodating of individual circumstances, and even in group classes you receive personalized instruction, allowing you to improve your skills quickly. Each instructor has a different style while still following the same curriculum, so it is easy to pick a class / time that fits both your schedule, personality, and desired intensity level. Yet everyone here feels like a family and supports each other both inside and outside of class. Each class is a combination of cardio warm-up, striking, conditioning, defense against strikes, and defense against more nuanced attacks, such as headlocks or ground defense. Classes are designed so that you can practice each technique safely, but still learn how to power through the stress of a scary situation. You learn the technique, then undergo various modifications and drills that teach you how to adapt in the moment, as you would have to in a real situation. At the end of class you will feel incredibly empowered, having just received a great workout, learned how to land a solid punch, and get out of scary situations. Honestly I cannot recommend this place enough.
