Wilderness Exchange is across the street from the flagship REI megastore. Park in the large lot (first hour free) next to Wilderness Exchange. We always enjoy hunting for bargains but it was not fun going through the mostly meh merchandise here. Hiking wear was still expensive even with tags showing markdowns of 25-50% off. We found the choices for women's clothing limited and less appealing (ugly colors and zero style) than the men's clothing. Plus secondhand clothing was mixed in with unworn merchandise. As for camping and hiking gear, it's hit or miss. Gear is expensive here even if it is marked down. If you are a hiking or camping newbie, bring a friend who can advise you about brands, quality and prices plus do some comparison shopping at REI. Visiting Denver I knew we had to visit the REI Flagship store located in downtown. This huge store…read morestands next to the South Platte River where the Cherry Creek and South Platte rivers unite in beautiful Confluence Park. Such a great location. The store itself is huge and located within the restored 1901 Denver Tramway Building. This building is all brick and just stunning to walk up to and into. They offer every type of equipment one would need for their selected sport whether it's hiking, climbing, cycling, camping, paddling, skiing, snowboarding or overall fitness. They also offer the option to rent outdoor equipment, provide a full range bike shop and ski and snowboard services. The store features a 47 foot tall climbing wall right in the middle of the floor and other unique decorations. I have never been in such a huge REI store but it was a fun experience. My husband managed to spend all his saved up gift cards (Ha! Ha!) Service was friendly and helpful from the staff. REI can always be a little on the spendy side but I always try to catch their sales. I love being a member and receiving my annual rewards. Parking is the only downer as it's only free for the first hour. After that you must pay and believe me, an hour is not enough time here. So glad we had the opportunity to stop in, shop and check out this historic location.

Honestly, I felt that the gear selection seemed limited, mostly on part for biking equipment and accessories. Feral carries a few multi-use items like sunglasses, hydration packs, and headlamps, but other than that, nothing else. The store also lacks in service. There were three young ladies working at the front of the store, chatting amongst themselves. Not one customer was greeted when (we) walked in and checking out felt like an inconvenience to the staff. Prices here on new gear is a bit on the higher side in comparison so it's worth it to shop around (online).

She helps us to the "classic" backpack, which is rated at 20 liters. They had a wide selection of this particular backpack, with several on sale. We purchased the two of the classic backpacks, each with a different color scheme. In addition to that backpack, they have many others, shorts, shirts, etc. An amazing outdoor store, and provided us with great value. We're looking forward to coming back !
