Such a gem of a shop! Has been in the same location since it opened in 1938. They have wonderful chocolates, gummies and dutch licorice. We heard about this place from a friend as they have the real authentic salted / double salted licorice. The service is friendly and even offered a sample of their chocolate bonbon. You take a chance and it's the best thing you've ever eaten. So good that you go out and find the place that makes them. That was my first experience with Burst and I have been a fan ever since. My family loves this shop - old time, original Corvallis charm and superb quality chocolates and confections. It's especially charming for kids, with all the jars of gummies for them to pick from; old-fashioned candy sticks; and an old scale they can actually weigh themselves on. I lived in France and Germany for most of my adult life and think Burst's dark chocolate stacks up to the quality found in Belgium. Their cashew "beavers" (turtles) are AMAZING, worth the price. Nothing I've tried there is too sugary sweet either -- it's just right. They make a quality sea foam (hadn't seen that for a long time) that is very good, candied orange zests covered in chocolate, cherry cordials... all in the setting of an old-fashioned, friendly, charming, quality small business. They make their chocolate in the basement, as they have for the past 75 years. I love their stuff and keep coming back for more. I recently visited a different chocolate shop in Portland. Happened to walk by Bursts. Took a chance, went in even though couldn't see much of the inside of the store from the street. What a wonderful discovery! Has the feel of a magical, old-fashioned candy shop, straight out of a storybook. The chocolates are outstanding. Pure, clean flavors. Especially love the marion berry truffles. Let me start by saying the young ladies working there are just wonderful. They are as nice as they are lovely. The chocolate is pretty good. They had Zots, which was impressive, and I have not had them since I was a kid. I also bought a bar of their classic chocolate and 2 truffles. Good quality chocolate. It sort of reminded me of the more touristy kind of candy shops i've seen, as it was highly priced. They did however have some lovely chocolate sculptures. I enjoyed stopping in. read more

Oh my gosh, keep me away!!! There are so many good things to eat in here. Can chocolate be considered a vegetable? My daughter was having a Harry Potter themed party and went in here to get some special chocolates. Right away, the woman suggested the chocolate frogs, which was perfect. I've been to Burst's many times but never felt a strong need to write a review until today. I've had many delicious treats from Burst's over the years, the coconut sinners and hazelnut butter treats are a couple of favorites, but today, I had one of their chocolate covered marshmallows for the first time. Holy moly! The chocolatier makes the marshmallows from scratch and this was by far the best chocolate covered marshmallow I had ever had. They are huge and the marshmallows are very fluffy and the chocolate is phenomenal! Burst's Chocolates (Corvallis, OR) is well worth a visit. The shop looks smart, the pallet resembling pumpkin pie and whipped cream. The heavy old glass pendant lights are beautiful. In and around climate controlled, curved-front glass cases are salt caramels, cashew-net brittle, excellent dark chocolate-dipped orange peel, and fondant mints, as well as truffles, caramel-nut clusters, and cherry cordials done a zillion ways. Want a grapefruit or cinnamon ganache (my favorite)? Its there. Need custom-molded chocolate lobsters? They do that. I've even been converted to liking creams--the fruit flavors the store offers (all hand made) are especially rich and bright. Ever-changing seasonal specialties. Hand made. High quality value. i've heard great things about them but when we went in hoping to buy gifts for someone with food allergies, the person at the counter was extremely rude and unhelpful. she kept repeating that a particular chocolate was vegan, which...had nothing to do with what we asked. she was rather aggressive about it too. very awkward. we left without buying and aren't too keen to return. read more
