Made to wear face masks for eye test which is fine, optician didn't seem very helpful when placing test glasses over face she wasn't very personable as other opticians make sure glasses are behind ears properly etc. First lot of tests were with another person who was very friendly and helpful. Found the selection of glasses poor and unlike other opticians when you try on glasses they clean them right away. I didn't like trying on glasses with smudges and labels over the lenses. I will have an eye test elsewhere hopefully another place will be more modern with how they do the tests, find the test glasses bulky and old fashioned.

I do think the store was overstaffed, the staff working did seem a little loud and they were obviously talking to each other, I get having a conversation is fine when the stores quiet but they just became rather loud and even began to distract the lady working on my glasses, meaning I was worried she could have made a mistake or it could have ended up taking longer than it should have: she didn't make a mistake however and the staff were professional and able to answer whatever questions I had, so the service was okay. The selection was okay, they didn't have the more premium ranges which many other stores have but they did have a satisfactory selection from designer brands, I was told they didn't stock TAG Heuer anymore due to licensing issues which is why the person who was helping me didn't want to adjust my glasses too much as she couldn't replace them anymore if they did break. The TAG Heuer is only available in certain Vision Express stores now due to the strange recall. Pretty average store, I would feel happy using them while in Derby although Vision Express do have many better branches, this remains one of the better opticians within the mall and city of Derby. 3*

The range of frames are impressive and are split into sections by design and price to help you find your perfect style and price. Eye tests don't take long and staff are always thorough and helpful. I've never had a problem and would gladly return when I need an eyetest again. The only thing that may deter you is that the shop is very bright!

They are really good to go to if you can't afford the glasses offered you at your opticians…read more They don't do eyes tests so you need to go to your normal optician for that but then you just ask for your prescription and you take that into Direct Specs. The staff are all lovely and know their job well. They will help you choose the right specs for you. The prices are all laid out so that you know exactly what you are paying including all the add-ons for non glare etc There is a great selection with lots of choices from budget specs to expensive designer ones. Once you have chosen the glasses that you want, the staff will do all the measurements to make sure they are right for you then you pay a small deposit and they send them off. It is usually about a week until your specs are ready. They wil call you up to come and collect them. When you go to collect, they will make sure they fit OK for you and tighten them up if needed. There is a great after care service and you can go back afterwards if anything happens to them. I would recommend Direct Specs if you are having trouble buying new glasses.

I have had contact lenses from them for a good few years now, and I think the package is really good value as the lenses and solutions are delivered to your door every few months, and all aftercare, lens checks and eye tests are included. On the downside, I have had a few problems with their direct debits system, which took several weeks to sort out. And it can be difficult to get an appointment at the weekend as the store gets very busy.

All of the staff are very well trained and extremely helpful and will not only take a great deal of time to advise you on frame selection but will always fit you in if you have any problems or need to see the optician urgently. It's just a very caring and friendly place where they will get to know you as a person and cater to your individual needs, and offer a much pleasanter experience than the larger, more expensive and not always particularly accurate branded optician stores.

This Specsavers store is in Long Eaton…read more It is a very well presented store with test rooms on both the ground and first floor so is perfect for older or disabled customers. There opticians are very well versed, don't rush your test and explain everything very thoroughly. I have complete confidence in their examinations. Examinations are charged as set out by the health service BUT look out in local papers and join their mailing lists and you will often get a voucher to have your eye exam for as low as £5. As well as the general opthomoloist they have special contact lense consultations too. Once you have your prescirption there is a wide range of frames on offer. There are always assistants on hand to help you choose but if like me you'd rather be left on your own to mull the choice over they leave you in peace - there's no hard sell. The range is everything from designer to own brand, suitin all budgets. I've been very pleased with the frames I have had from them. They have always been made up in quick time and fitted well. Again when having the final details of your lenses and frames taken they don't put on the hard sell of coatings and insurances etc.
