Rice Bowl
Allison C.

After looking around at the vendors at Parkville for dinner, I decided that I was craving a rice bowl from the menu at Burrito Loko. Sadly, it was incredibly average and the quality did not match the price that I paid. The only flavor came from the guac and pico de gallo. Also, I paid extra for guac, and it was literally the tiniest spoonful on top (surface level, it doesn't touch the bottom of the container). The steak didn't taste like it was seasoned at all. I don't see myself returning to this vendor unfortunately.

Johnathan honestly went above & beyond to get me what I wanted. His service was extremely friendly and kind! He deserves a raise! The food was really good! Typically I get the birria tacos this time I got a birria rice bowl and it was the best rice bowl I've had in a long time. Between his service and the food I'll always be a customer!

Queso & Chips - very good queso. Tasted like green chili queso with maybe a Jack base

I've been to Burrito Loko twice in the past month or so. The first time I just ordered chips and queso to supplement our orders from other Market vendors. As I walked to the counter, an employee from a different vendor stopped by to chat. The Burrito Loko employee spoke with her about non-business issues for roughly 3 minutes while I stood there clearly waIting to order. The kicker is, then she asked me, "Are you ready to order?". I didn't say "I've been ready for three minutes." But I thought it. The queso and chips were good by the way, although there weren't enough chips for the amount they were charging. I waited about 3 weeks and returned. The same Burrito Loco employee was greeting customers today. She was responsive today, but not particularly welcoming. I ordered a taco salad. I have multiple issues with the taco salad Burrito Loko served. First, the menu description said that it included pico de gallo. It did not. Second, the ground beef had no detectable seasoning that would make it suitable for a taco salad. Third, the guacamole and sour cream looked like they were ice cream scooped out of a larger container and plopped on top of the salad. That did not look inviting. They tasted fine, but unremarkable. Fourth, unless you count the guacamole and/or black beans, the salad did not have a single vegetable other than lettuce. No tomato. No carrots. No onion. No peppers. No herbs. Lettuce! Fifth, I don't understand why they serve a taco salad with a basic ranch dressing, which doesn't remotely suggest Mexican cuisine. They could mix some salsa with that ranch and call it Southwest ranch. Problem solved. Or they could make a chipotle, agave vinaigrette if they want to go above and beyond. They could even just put salsa on top of the salad so that you can stir it with the sour cream. It doesn't take a lot of thought to improve upon Ranch for a taco salad. The tortilla shell, black beans and shredded cheese were all fine, but not enough to save this from being a well below average taco salad. That's my last trip to Burrito Loko. There are some lessons here. First, employees have to care about their customers and act that way. Second, if you say that a dish has an ingredient, you've got to have it or explain in advance why you don't. Third, you need to serve food that matches the reasonable expectations a customer has when they are ordering a certain dish. In this regard, a salad like this should have a few vegetables.

Tex-Mex Chicken Chop Salad

Today, I had the Tex-Mex chopped salad with an avocado ranch dressing. So many amazing flavors! I love when my food has a lot of colors going on. It's the best way to eat! I cook low sodium, so take caution when eating here. It was a little too salty for me, and I think next time, if possible, I will ask for the chicken not to be seasoned. The avocado ranch was on the chunkier side than what I'm used to seeing, with specks of red and green throughout. Overall, the ladies behind the counter were friendly, and I have my eye on the birria tacos for next time!

This spot is located in Parkville Market and its one of my favorites among the many amazing restaurants there! They serve many of the classics like nachos and taco salads, all excellent. Their queso is some of the best I've had and their steak and chicken are both very flavorful. And as an added addition, you then get to enjoy your meal outside at one of Parkville Market's many outdoor picnic tables! Depending on the night there may even be corn hole or live music.

This place is inside Parkville Market food hall. Menu is short. I went for a steak burrito and beef barbacua quesadilla. Both were good. Quesadilla was slightly saltier than I would like.

Birria Quesadilla
Ariel H.

The birria quesadilla from Burrito Loko was everything I hoped for from birria! It was crispy and the cheese added the saltiness that I usually feel is missing from birria in taco form. The consomé was just salty enough, and the red salsa was tangy and refreshing with a little kick. I ended up using all of the salsa because it was so good and the perfect compliment to cut through the greasy cheesy quesadilla. My only issue was that since I ordered take out, the bottom pieces were soggy in comparison to the top ones. I'll have to go in person next time so I can get the maximum crisp on my quesadilla.

We were the only customers there! I had seen on-line that three food trucks would be present, but there were just two -The Gulla Grille (Brazilian) and Taste of Home (Puerto Rican). Aunties Pasta (Italian) wasn't there. The designers of Westside really need to get a lot of credit for the beautiful job they did in salvaging this forlorn corner of Hartford. The dozens of wood tables and benches were made from old recycled industrial spools, and they are really amazing. There are corn hole boards, beer pong table, Giant Jenga, Connect Four, a movie screen, a music stage, and a bar spread throughout the property so there's a ton of things to do there. I had a kebab plate from Gulla and my wife had a cheeseburger from Taste of Home. She was given one of those buzzing gizmos to tell her when her food was ready. I knew my lunch was ready when the guy flagged me down like he was hailing a cab. I love the concept of food truck courts and I suspect Westside is quite a bit busier in the evenings that it was lunch time on a holiday weekend Saturday, when we had the place to ourselves..

This hidden gem is located on Market Street in Hartford right beside the 960 Main St building. It's a selfie museum and a restaurant all in one. The restaurant menu is small but there are a wide variety of options to choose from. I came for Christmas dinner with friends who were all dining for the first time. I ordered the New York strip with candied yams and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was a little bland but was still edible. It was my first time trying candied yams and it was so rich, sweet, and delicious. I had my steak well done and it was so juicy. The serving size was also pretty decent as I had leftovers for the next day. For my drink, I had the soho punch which was very tasty and fruity. To be able to take pictures I believe you have to pay for that part separately, however, based on the numbers in our party, they told us we could take pics and you know the model I am, I went around and took photos at nearly all the photo booths. Each photo station has a ring camera with a ring light which makes it perfect for taking pictures especially if you do not have anyone to take your pictures. All the others in my party also enjoyed their meals. They had jerk chicken alfredo, fried whiting fish, salmon alfredo, Buffalo chicken wings, burgers and so much more. They also do paint and aip and will be hosting a New Year's Eve brunch if you are interested.

I had never tried montucas before but they are very similar to tamales, but the amount of meat inside was astoundingly and the size of the meat portions were insane. Especially for the price. It was delicious. I could eat fifty of them. Montucas also have chickpeas inside which was the perfect compliment to the masa and meat. I can't say enough good things. The papusas were also very good. This is the first time I've had such a crunchy, chewy papusa before. Usually I can cut them with a fork. I think I might like this texture better though! And lastly I got the carne asada. I cannot believe the portion size I got. It was ridiculous, the amount of sides and the portion sizes of those sides was also ridiculous. Everything was seasoned absolutely perfectly. The steak was amazing, the sausage was perfectly spicy, the rice and beans were tasty, the plantains were plentiful. Everything was amazing. Truly. Thank you so much Ktrachitos!

Once I saw two 5 star reviews I headed over. First, let's talk about the name! Ktrachitos isn't only addicting to say (once you get it right), it's likened to Boriqua for Puerto Ricans but for Hondurans. This was my first time trying Honduran food and it exceeded my expectations! I got the arepa revuelta, carne asada, and the biggest mug of passion fruit juice I've ever seen. The Arepa was slightly burnt, but that's exactly how I like them. The texture was smooth and they didn't skimp on any of the beans, cheese, or chicharron inside. The carne asada was PERFECT. The steak was cooked well, lightly seasoned, and paired perfectly with everything on the plate. There was so much included from green bananas, rice, avocado, sausage, and cheese. I couldn't finish it and packed the rest to go. It was perfect the next morning. It's a laid back spot. There are Honduran flags through the restaurant, cute plants, and twinkling lights which were cute. I recommend attending with someone who speaks Spanish if you do not. My Spanish is rusty but I was still able to chat with my server a bit. I'm looking forward to trying their breakfast, but I'm a big fan already!
