I ordered Burrito King for lunch and had it delivered by Grubhub. The food was very good. My son had a large chicken burrito and it was huge. I think it could feed 2 people. He got a third of the way through it. I had tamales covered in sauce. They were good and I'm kind of picky about my tamales. They weren't all dry as they often are elsewhere. We ordered Queso for chips. We love very spicy food and this isn't spicy at all (think Midwestern Mexican cuisine!) but we have no shortage of hot sauces at home so we didn't mind. I would order again. It took just a little longer than the projected delivery time but I live in Champaign no where near campus so that was not bad at all. I can't even tell you how the food tastes because I never got it. I waited 4 hours for it and after being told at hour 2 it was on its way and then having to go through Grubhub customer service because their phone was no longer working at hour 3 to get told the same thing, I made it clear that they had until hour 4 to get to me or I would cancel. Lo and behold, no food so I had to cancel and ordered from somewhere else. I don't like being lied to and if a driver did have the food for 2 hours, I can only imagine it would be cold and gross by the time I got it. Now I'm hungry AND frustrated. read more

I ordered delivery and received a text message saying it would be delivered by 12:20. I called at 12:24, having not received my order, and spoke to a gentleman over the phone. He told me they didn't receive my order and that I'd have to order and pay for it again to get food from them. I told him this was unacceptable, and that I wasn't paying for the food twice. I asked him for money off of the meal, and he said this couldn't be done because they go through grub hub. He proceeded to ask me what I wanted, and when it took me a second to remember, he asked me if I had ordered nachos and tortas. He knew my order. I immediately called him out on having lied to me, and at this point he offered to give something extra in the order, but said "Nothing big though." At this point I couldn't think straight, and he asked if I wanted two tacos. I asked him to give me four tacos, and he refused. "You're getting two tacos." The delivery driver told me the boss just got in when we finally got our food. I called the store, the same guy answered the phone, recognized my voice, and told me the boss wasn't in. I am new to campus just being hired here at the U of I, so finding close places for lunch was a priority of mine. I stumbled upon Burrito King one day and boy am I glad I did. I first found their truck that lingers around Green St. I tried their namesake, a burrito, and man, they earned their name. I got the chorizo hold the onion and it was magnificent. The next week, I got the chicken, next I got the steak. Yep, there's a trend. Each time, I was blown away. Once students were gone, I was disappointed to learn the truck was no more. Finally, I discovered during my walk an actual restaurant. So, I leapt inside and ordered the Super Nachos with chorizo. While a brilliant idea food wise, a terrible idea walking back to the office wise. I could only consume, maybe, half and what I carried back weighed at least two pounds. It was heavenly. Today, I ordered online for takeout, $4.99 two tacos, rice and beans. YEP $4.99 TWO TACOS, RICE AND BEANS!!!!!. Once again, Burrito King was excellent. The food was ready in the 20 minute window I was provided, it was still hot when I got back to my office and it was delicious. If you're a fan of good Mexican food, give it a shot. If you like some heat with your food, definitely get the hot sauce. It'll light you up and still leave you smiling. read more

Huge portions for the price and most things come with chips and salsa and tortillas too. Perfect comfort food for when you just want to get food coma and watch Netflix. Also great for hangover prevention in my experience. I never wake up with a headache when I eat here after a night of drinking. Server and staff are super friendly. read more

This place is a hidden gem nestled along green street. Do not let the exterior fool you; this place is very authentic and delicious. There are large portions for a very good price and the monster margaritas are to die for. The service is always quick and friendly and even though this is a drunken staple, it is actually very good for dinner with friends. I ordered delivery from here and it took 30 minutes past the estimated time for my food to arrive. When it finally did I noticed several ingredients on my torta that were not listed on the menu that I can not eat along with some of the ingredients that were listed missing. When I called the restaurant for them to replace my torta they refused to send a new one, refund my money, or take any responsibility. I was told it was my fault for not saying to make it without the certain ingredients that I had no clue were on there due to not being listed. The woman I spoke with was very rude and she hung up on me. I will not be ordering from here again and would not recommend it to anyone. read more

Everything I ordered came covered in grease and tasted bland. The cheese in one of my quesadillas was completely out of the tortilla, and the horchata was incredibly thin and watery. I can only speak to their delivery service, as I have never actually eaten inside. Serving size is very generous for the price, and pretty much any entree can be split into two meals. Chips and salsa are included, but could use a pinch of salt. Delivery is quick and food arrives hot...avoid ordering the nachos, though, as they tend to get soggy. We were wandering around Campustown on a Thanksgiving trip, looking for a place to get a late-night bite to eat. Turns out Burrito King was the only thing that was open besides a couple tea places that didn't look like they served anything of nutritional substance, so we popped inside. It was about what I'd expect for a Mexican restaurant open on a college campus at 11 PM. Some noticeably unclean tables and wooden planks that mysteriously blocked most places one could peer behind the counter into the kitchen, but the customer service was fine and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. We took our food back to the hotel room and picked at it: it was fine. As one of the members of our party described it, it was "3 AM good" (a nod to how the restaurant supposedly served food until 3 AM). The disaster didn't strike until about 12 hours later, when we were all piled into a car making the 8+ hour drive home to Minnesota. One of our party members complained of severe indigestion and nausea, which warranted a quantity of bathroom stops that probably approached the dozens. Nothing else had been eaten in the time elapsed, since we had leftovers and a little coffee for breakfast. The King was the culprit. The cumulation of this unsavory event involved the afflicted member of our party vacating the car on the side of an Iowa back road and defecating while the sun set over the miles of dry yellow grass. This was at the height of the 2018 romaine crisis, and our meals HAD been heaped with shredded lettuce. We had no choice but to assume the worst. read more

They've upped their prices for the same below average Mexican food. I went there and used a coupon on the Hooked app for the King Nachos to get $1.50 off. The first problem I have is that they now charge 70 cents for the tiny cup of salsa you get free at any other Mexican place. The second one being that while I was waiting for my food I overheard the cook talking to the cashier in Spanish about my order and the cashier responded by telling the cook to give me less food because I was using a promotion. That is a shady and unethical business practice and I will never be returning to Burrito King from now on. read more

By far the worst establishment of a so called "Mexican" restaurant. Yes, the food comes out quickly, but it sure does show why. Just tonight, I ordered a steak burrito. But what I received was a hodgepodge of scraps from Ferdinand the Bull's long lost runt cousin Carl. I would not be surprised if what I ate was the byproduct of the most off-branded shark fin soup (which his highly illegal and can only be purchased through the Asian black market for those who are unaware). In addition, the artificial, probably carcinogenic, so called cheese was not inside the burrito, but rather smothered on top of the burrito. The direction of this business is unclear. For heavens sake, even Taco Bell cannot screw up a burrito this bad. I strongly do not recommend eating here. Please, spare yourself. read more

Pretty good mexican food for being in a small midwest town. I'm used to authentic mexican food from places in Chicago, but this one is pretty good. I had acapulco, which is chicken, steak and shrimp with rice and some kind of cheese sauce. SOO GOOD! My only complaint is that there wasn't enough shrimp, but everything else was top notch. I got delivery and it only took around 35 minutes to get to my house. I'm totally gonna eat here again. read more

It is incredibly hard to screw up reading a piece of paper. But apparently, the people working at Burrito King cannot do just that. I ordered delivery of the following items from Burrito King: Cheese Nachos, Enchilada Plate, Acapulco in Corn Tortilla, Mushroom Quesadilla, and Carne Asada Quesadillas with Guac. Nacho chips came, without any cheese dip whatsoever, the enchilada plate was made with steak, even though it was specified as only cheese online (making it uneatable for a vegetarian friend who ordered it), the acapulco came without corn tortilla and the carne asada quesadillas had no guac. The only item they didn't manage to mess up was the Mushroom Quesadilla. All in all, if you want a bundle of barely edible "Mexican" food that is completely the opposite of what you ordered, by all means, order from Burrito King. read more
