We found ourselves outside of Chicago hungry. My fellow Yelpers did not disappoint. Burrito Jalisco was authentic Mexican fare with huge portions. I regret that we were there late in the evening and left half of our meals on the table. Lets start with the outside. The only sign is on the building and some lights were burned out. Inside resembled an old diner with those colorful flags criss crossing the room. Tile floors, a few booths followed by tables in the side room. We were told to seat ourselves. Waitress #1 brought water, chips, two salsas, spoons and extra napkins. Here is why we reduced this restaurant's rating. The chips and salsa was not good. The salsa was watery (or well blended) The chips were not fresh. My husband though they were burned. I dipped a chip in the closest salsa and reached for the water immediately. SPICY! But not favorable. We later learned the other salsa was mild. P I like spice but it has to have flavor. Disappointing My husband ordered the ground beef burrito with mas frejoles. (Im a lucky lady) No arroz. It was Huge- Chipotle sized. Inside was ground beef, lettuce, tomato, cheese and he paid for sour cream. The burrito was moist and good. The beef lacked seasoning. I was adventurous and ordered Quesabuirria Combo. I received 3 "tacos" with fried corn shells filled with ground chicken, diced onion and cilantro it was served with a consume. A red broth with diced inion and cilantro. Very simple but very favorable! The menu showed someone dipping the taco in the consume. I dipped my taco and I ate the soup with a spoon. It was good. I also ordered Elote because a sign said "now available" The corn was served in a bowel with a dollop of mayo, cheese, cilantro and paprika. Mix it all up and enjoy! Finally. A decent Mexican place, better that the regular taco places you can everywhere in Chicago. At seating we were served warm chips with two very good sauces. They also served a cup of broth that was simple but tasty and at the right temperature. Ordered the "Tequila combo". 4 little tostada like little tacos with multiple things. Sort of a sampler. Bud had steak burrito "suizo", which means with melted cheese over. Mine was quite good and what my bud ordered was also good. While not stellar, the food here is competent. This is our new favorite go to for Mexican food. Everything is delicious. It is fresh big portions. Great flavor. The servers, everyone who works there go out of their way to make you feel welcome . $5.49 for a 27 ounce margarita on Monday's! The margarita is HUGE and super strong and delicious. They also give you chips and salsa the minute you sit down. I ordered the Mexican steak nachos. They were absolutely delicious. They had a lot of quesadilla cheese, a bunch of homemade guacamole, sour cream, tomatoes and they give a lot of meat. I am did up taking half home because the portions are big for $10.99. My fiancé had a steak burrito platter which was $9.99. The burrito is really good and big as well. Place is overrated. South suburb people rave about this place. In fact, you can't walk five feet on the south side without some guy in jorts and a sleeveless telling you how his cousin's buddy opened a beef stand and his beef/burger/taco/açaí bowl is better than [insert name of best place]. Bottom line...I'm not saying jaliscos is bad, it's just nothing special. Let's not get things confused...it's better than el famous without question. Be sure to get the $6 queso fundido aka blob of lightly melted cheese. Bring it to your next bbq it'll be a hit! It'll break every chip in half that you try and dip in there. I called them yesterday to cater for 75 people in 3 hours after my original caterer cancelled on me at 7:30 am on the day of my daughters backyard bridal shower. Burrito Jalisco opened at 11:00 and by 2:30 we were picking up food. It was hot, absolutely delicious and so perfect! Our favorites include the avocado tacos and avocado burrito which have generous portions of avocado in them. The steak burritos are also very good and big enough for two meals. Because I have loaded up on chips and salsa! I love the mild red salsa, some say it's sweet or tangy. I like it because I don't like spicy sauces or food! Had a great time here on a Wednesday, with a group of 11. We got there pretty early - 6:00 and had no problem snagging a few tables. That could be due to the monsoon-like conditions outside though. Monday through Thursday - 1/2 price margaritas. Seriously. Any flavor. Any size. Half-price. I love a good deal. The 27-ouncers were normally $7.99 - so for $4 bucks - a steal! I can highly recommend the mango flavor! Service was great - we were taken care of by several of the wait staff - everyone friendly and helpful and attentive. The chips and salsas were plentiful. I had the burrito suiza dinner - huge portion - great price. Steak was good, love the rice & beans. I got through about 1/2 of the meal and I was stuffed. Burrito Jalisco is an average Mexican restaurant. Their customer service is nice and friendly, but the food is no different than any other Mexican restaurant. I usually get the taco dinner with rice and beans. The one thing that annoyed me was the smell of their dishes. Linda like mop water, yes gross!!! I found the seasoning to be authentic to Mexico the portion of meat to be authentic Mexico very happy with the ambience and staff was very friendly. I'll eat here again. Went here on a very crowded saturday after christmas shopping. The wait was minimal and the chips and salsa was very good they give you to options mild and hot. There are plenty options on the menu. Both my sisters ordered the combination fajita and i ordered the bistec a la tampiquena. Mine was delicious, just the right amount of flavor. My sisters enjoyed the fajitas which came out sizzling hot with plenty tortillas to go around. The waitstaff was extremely attentive and very helpful and cheerful. The drinks were a-m-a-z-i-n-g we ordered the 27oz margaritas straberry/mango and traditional all over ice. I cant say enough it was just the right mixture of flavor and liquor, just delicious. it was a tad nit dark for my dining experience but hey that didnt overshadow everything they did right. Any place with half price margaritas Monday through Thursday is definitely A-OK in my book. It's a shame though, because this place has absolutely NO vibe/atmosphere. No music or anything. I don't like censoring myself, and after tequila I don't have the capability. A guy walked in that looked identical to Spicoli and I had to text my friend sitting next to me about it. I had to TEXT it!! The humanity!! Anyway, back to the food and service. The waitress was bare minimum attentive. Seated us, took our order, brought our food, then the check. Barely cracked a smile. I ordered the nachos with Picadillo and the chips came already soggy. Ugh.. soggy chips.. pet peeve. I was using the bowl of chips on the table to scrape the topping off the soggy ones on my plate. Then I gave up and used my fork. Maybe I just chose the wrong time to visit and ordered the wrong item. I'm willing to try this place again. I was feeling brave one night and wanted something spicy and asked the waitress for some red sauce for my tostadas, she warned me that it was spicy, I should've listened. That was, by far, the HOTTEST thing I've ever had in my life. It was so hot, it made me sad and it probably knocked years off my life. No amount of horchata and chips could slow down that freight train of hotness. If you like Mexican food even a little, give it a go. You'll love it. They have the best tacos in the area that I've tried so far. Their prices are a little steep though, even if it's taco Tuesday. Their carne asada is very tender and well seasoned, and I love their rice and beans. The customer service is also very good. The waitress are extremely nice, and very helpful when you're not sure what you want to eat. I recommend that you try this restaurant at least once, but I have a feeling you'll keep going back. One of the best steak burrito suiza around and their queso fundido con chorizo makes my heart weep (in a good way). They offer 3 different salsas, ginormous margaritas, and have a massive menu which they have mastered at cooking. They only thing keeping them from a perfect score is that their tortilla chips are "eh" in my opinion. Is that the end of the world? No, I'll still eat them - but El Famous has the best. read more
