Look, I understand that Burns is a family-owned business and it's why I called them up and spoke to nice Kelly on Friday, 6/2. I wanted their lovely "Thoughtful Tulips" arrangement to be delivered on Monday morning, 6/5 --- in time for a Birthday lunch for girlfriends I also asked for more than the 10 tulips that are featured in a nice vase on their site. In fact, when I spoke to Kelly, I told her I'd like to pay for a bit more tulips and she can forget to add the decorative butterfly. So what did I get? My girlfriend emailed me this afternoon -- Monday, 6/5 at 3 PM, saying that the flowers hadn't arrived but the thought was nice. I was floored. What? I called Kelly and she explained that she was handling orders all morning and that she was just leaving to deliver flowers and that my order was the first to be delivered. This was at 3:15 PM. The lunch was over and the Birthday girl had gone home. Then, the hostess of the Birthday lunch sent me a photo of the arrangement -- and although I paid for more tulips than the 10 featured on the Burns' website, the arrangement I paid for had 8 tulips of different colors, because, I gather they had run out of tulips. Moreover, most of the arrangement is filled with cheap greens that, really, are pretty ugly. So, the birthday flowers didn't arrive in time and the birthday girl had to pick up her dog and didn't receive the present. And the bouquet of "Thoughtful Tulips" turned out to be ugly-greenery with a few mis-matched tulips poking through a mass of green. What happened? I gather that Kelly was overwhelmed and understaffed and slapped together an arrangement she felt fine with over-charging me with that was not what I ordered, or talked to her about the previous Friday and the recipient never received it anyway. Look, stuff happens and things can fall apart, but then you deal with it, as quickly and honestly as possible. You don't slap some ugly stuff together and have the audacity to then deliver it later than agreed upon. Moreover, you alert the customer and let them know. We live in SoCal and have family members up North we wanted to send flowers to during a difficult time. Due to the distance we had to simply choose a location through a Google search, while also trying to ensure we were supporting a locally owned business. We could not have been happier. I don't look at Yelp when life gets busy. However I have a policy of always writing a positive review whenever I feel the need to write a negative review. I believe in karma and citing the best of the best, at the same time I have to sometimes voice a poor opinion about a business. After two negative reviews of Burns, the owner Kelly responded to me, but I missed her comments because I hadn't logged into Yelp for months. When I finally saw that she was so apologetic and so upset with what happened and that she wanted to do whatever she could to make it better, I just called her on the phone and we worked everything out. Two days later, she sent me the most beautiful arrangement of flowers and I told her to be as "wild and crazy" as she could be. So she sent 15 long stem roses - all different colors,, even green, burnt orange and purple - and they were gorgeous and unbelievably filled with love and laughter! Kelly runs the business all by herself which is a huge job having to go 2 to 3 days a week to the flower Mart in San Francisco at 2:00 - 3:00 AM. And then she works all day, six days a week to deliver flowers to funerals, weddings, birthdays, Valentine's Day, and numerous other special occasions and she's doing it all herself. So when taking that into account, I have to say everybody should shop there. They are a 100-year old San Rafael business and I wish Kelly the best and I will do anything to help her succeed! read more

I think I found my go to florist for when I want to surprise my wife or get out of the dog house. I don't know about y'all but I'm so tired of FTD or 1800 flowers. They fail time and time again. So I got on yelp and looked up some local florists. Burns had great reviews and they delivered. Their prices are also reasonable, not the cheapest but why go cheap on flowers? Candace and Kelly jumped on my order, they called to let me know they were out of stock on a couple flowers but have some suggestions to keep it in the same color scheme and price range. They also said they'd deliver in the window I requested later that afternoon and unlike the crappy national flower companies they actually did! We had a little hiccup with the flowers going to my neighbors house but Candace jumped on it and it all worked out. She even offered to do free delivery on the next order for the very slight mixup. That's customer service right there! More importantly Kelly and Candace are just super nice and you can tell they love what they do. I know where I'll be getting my holiday flowers and my wife loved her amazing bouquet. read more

I called to order an arrangement of flowers for my 13 year old granddaughter who had just been accepted to a special high school program. I spoke to Kelly. I said I'd like to keep the price at around $50. Kelly let me know that the minimum charge is $75. I agreed to that price, even though I thought it was a little steep for my purpose. Kelly took all of my information. Then asked for my email address so that she could send a receipt. I received the email, but to my shock, the price was $99. Kelly did not inform me that the $75. was the base price and that there would be a delivery charge of $25. She did not give me a total price over the phone. If she had, I would have canceled the order and given my granddaughter $100. I would not recommend this florist. Kelly should've given me the total price over the phone --but she didn't. My advice? Ask for total price (including delivery and tax) before you make your purchase. read more

My son ordered a beautiful double stemmed orchid for my birthday in December 2020 from Kelly. The last blossom dropped on my birthday in 2021. At the end of January 2022 I called Kelly and ordered two double stemmed orchids in an arrangement. They are gorgeous! The attention to detail is above and beyond what you usually get with the willow and the moss on the clips. I couldn't be happier. Never again with this florist. This would be NO STAR if it were possible. Let me explain why. I've placed an order online yesterday for mothers day flowers. There were 3 options given for delivery dates (5/8, 5/9 & 5/10). I chose 5/8 and received a confirmation for Friday 5/8 only to get a cancelation email that afternoon . Not even a phone call or another option was provided. I called Burns repeatedly to find out why the order was canceled but no call back. Today (Saturday) I frantically looked for a replacement option since tomorrow is Mother's day. Found one and they were going to deliver it on mothers day. At 4:34pm I get a call from Burns florist saying she'll be able to do the delivery today. (Now do I cancel the one I've already scheduled?) I decided I'll do it to support a local florist. I made her (Burns) promise not to disappoint me because this is for my 92 yr old mother in law that recently lost her daughter. I told her I wanted a really special arrangement. Instead she delivered something that looks like whatever was leftover for the day. I had insisted that she goes back and pick up that tiny arrangement she dropped off and replace it with a better which she agreed to do. My daughter purchased two very basic rose boutineres. She was charged $65.55. When I called to ask if this was the correct price she said she would look into it. They charge $23 for one boutinere. Burns used to be an amazing place. Lou Yanchunis was an amazing florist who gave me the most amazing deal for my wedding. However, 3 weeks before my big day I got a call from a woman saying Burns had been bought out and Lou no longer worked there. She promised they would honor my price and arranged a meeting with me that weekend. I drove from San Jose to San Rafael for this appointment. The second I walked in the owner gave me a dirty looked and growled at me to sit down. She threw down the contract between Lou and I and told me that after reviewing it there was absolutely no way they were going to give me that price. I was absolutely furious. I brought up that she told me on the phone that they would honor the price. She spoke to me very rudely and spoke down to me and again refused my price. At that point I didn't even want to know what she would charge--why would I support a LIAR?! This woman said they would honor my price and then refused to. She was rude and ridiculous. I told her I would take my business and money elsewhere--to someone who would run an honest business and actually keep there promises!!! I do not advice this florist to anyone after the horrible way I was treated by the owner. People who lie and treat customers as if they are not important--especially three before their wedding--are not people I should support. There are plenty of other florists in Marin. I do however, suggest Gardenia florist just down the road. The kind woman there was shocked by what happened to me and said she could do it for my price, and last minute. Horrible . Classiest snob . I went here to try and buy 4 table arrangements for my daughters 20 th birthday . I was driving my daughters 2005 car which apparently the owner didn't like. I had perhaps my worst experience ever buying flowers. I placed an order via the web last week to have flowers delivered the day before Mother's Day. My credit card was charged, but the flowers didn't arrive the day they were supposed to, or the next day or the day after that. After leaving five phone messages over two days, without receiving a return phone call, I still have no idea what's going on with my order. I have been in twice now and both times have been very pleasant. The 1st time I stopping in I had a very welcoming experience, I had trouble finding the location of the store and had to call multiple times, but the owner was very nice about helping me get there. When I was in waiting for my arrangment of flowers Jo (the owner) made me feel very comfortable and told me the history of the store. I was so excited to support a local store that has been around for so many years. Jo also invited my in to check out some of the flowers in the back to pick some of my favorites. Then second time I shopped with Burns, I called again to see if Jo could put together an arrangement for me at very last min. notice. She was happy to help me and on top of that she actually remembered me from my last visit which was over 5 months ago.
