Though based in Jacksonville, FL, they regularly hold classes in Atlanta. I've been scuba certified for over 30 years but I took a refresher course with Fintastic after being away from the sport for a while. The owner, Saffron, also taught my children to dive and we have traveled with her on more than 10 trips. Each one was organized, professionally done and tons of FUN. You can rent her gear for classes and trips or she can hook you up with your own gear at reasonable prices. Well known and respected in the diving industry, Saffron is a wonderful teacher with over 6,000 dives. Sitting on multiple Scuba Safety Councils, she is the person that professional divers recommend when asked for the name of a scuba instructor. Saffron's background in marine biology is a great help in identifying wildlife above and below the water. To top it all off.. Saffron is a nice person and I think nice matters. I pretended he told me his name was Bob, and I pretended that Bob told me to enter the store. Pretend or not, that turtle drove me to the store. Fortunately, I listened to Bob. This is despite not being a diver. But I am a snorkeler! In fact, the next time someone asks me my hobby, I'm going to say, "I'm a snorkeler." I have never heard that before. I bought some snorkel equipment and headed to Florida Springs. You know what kind of fish I saw there? Me neither. I just know they were little colorful ones. I also saw many of Bob's friends, many of which said hello. As far as the shopping experience goes, A+. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended--even if you only snorkel.

I had already researched numerous shops to compare courses and price so the sale was as good as done. I only had two questions I needed answered. Unfortunately, Rob was more concerned with where I had completed my basic open water and ironically telling me about their (First Coast Divers) recent "recon" of Divers Supply where they found customer focus lacking. At one point, he literally stopped his conversation with me mid-sentence to strike up a conversation with an apparent friend that just walked in the shop. Leaving me awkwardly standing there. Considering I am a new diver and not "married" to, or particularly loyal to any one dive shop, I find it very hypocritical for one business to bash another business as they literally do the very same thing! In the end, since I couldn't keep his focus on our conversation for more than 30 seconds at a time I finally got fed up and left. $900 still in my pocket and back to the drawing board. I truly hope this was a fluke and First Coast Divers does a better job keeping their focus on their students than he did on his customer.

You can count on always having great days out on the local wrecks and reefs during his 2- Or 3-Tank, offshore Boat Dives. SCA prices are reasonable and priced according to # of tanks. Note: You must be an Advanced Diver to go to depths of 100 plus feet. Pretty cool that SCA Rates also include fishing license and lobster permits, however, Rates do not include dive gear or tanks (BYOG - bring your own gear or rent from one of the many local dive shops). Although, one day trips accommodate up to 12 divers, I've typically gone out with 8 divers on these trips - SCA has a Dive Master on board for all dive trips. SCA is a decent outfit if you're interested in booking a local offshore dive trip.

Rob is a stand up guy. Excellent local dive shop. I'm so glad it's here in Richmond Hill. They do a significant amount of dive training of all locals and many people from Ft. Stewart. Rob and staff did a great job training my college age daughters for advanced diving certification. It's a great place to get tanks filled and gear serviced, see Scuba Pro stuff and talk diving. This is a great place for experienced divers to stock up or to get beginner certified. Right off I95 and exit 90 in Richmond hill, exit and turn two quick rights and it's less than a 1/2 mile off the exit. Closest dive shop to I95 between North Carolina and South Florida (can find one shop of I295 in Jacksonville). Down to earth , very good people who have been here in Richmond Hill for years and now he also owns and runs the best dive shop in Savannah (which he managed years ago). If you are I. They do a "date night" every other month on the third Thursday, and then a "social" on the alternating month. They are free; just need to sign up on their website. Our charter trip aboard the S/V Shenanigans on a Saturday in July was the highpoint of the summer…read morefor our family. We live in Charleston, but rarely spend time on the water. We found out what we have been missing! First, the boat and crew: The sailboat is a catamaran with a living area (Sherry and Gaelen call it the salon), a kitchen, bedrooms, and several bathrooms. The deck has a freshwater shower, lots of seating area, and grill...and the boat is immaculate. We had spent very little time on boats, but this one impressed us! Sherry and Gaelen are the crew, very welcoming and helpful, and particularly patient with children (we had 4 aboard). Second, the trip: We left their dock right next to the USS Yorktown mid-morning for a tour of the Charleston harbor, and finally anchoring just off Morris Island, a small recreational island empty but for a lighthouse. After swimming off the boat and having lunch, Sherry and Gaelen took us over to the beach on the island (by way of their dingy named "Minion"). We spent the afternoon enjoying the beach and the company, finding shells and sharks teeth, and watching the never-ending parade of boats go by. As the day closed, we returned to the dock and disembarked. It truly was a fantastic day, and I would recommend this charter to anyone living in OR visiting Charleston Visited July 2013
