The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the booksellers are incredibly knowledgeable about their selection. They're always able to offer thoughtful recommendations without making you feel pressured. I especially love the children's section. They carry so many interesting and unusual books that you just don't find in your average bookstore. I also really appreciate how much Pomegranate supports the Wilmington community, including local authors. And I have to mention the owner, Kathleen. She is genuinely one of the nicest business owners I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. You can tell how much she cares about the store, her customers, and the community. He looks through my box for about 5 seconds while preoccupied on the phone, probably looks at about 3 actual comics and then goes back to his phone call. He then decides to ring up the person behind me while I'm still waiting. Guy behind me spends $40 some bucks on comics and the cashier can't be bothered to put the phone down and even speak to him! Guy finally gets off the phone and tells me that all my comics are stuff he'd see in a dollar bin & if I can get 5 cents a piece for them take it. Wow what a waste of my time! There is a variety, including spider plants, gift knick knacks, jewelry, and different kinds of artwork ranging from end or side tables, wine stoppers, wall pictures, dog bow ties. Some of the artwork has a coastal theme. LunaBelle will post when they receive new artwork on Facebook and Instagram. The only improvement my companions suggests is more lighting or "eternal sunshine" to appreciate the detailed artwork of the artists. This would be a great place to buy a gift and unique artwork. The thing that makes this place a notch ahead of a standard beach gift shop is the original artwork by one of the owners: Bob Mather. I was lucky enough to visit when Bob himself was working. What a kind, lovely human being. All of Bob's pieces are absolutely wonderful, and because he owns the store, you are able to choose between prints, cards, and other items featuring his work...AND even some of the original pieces. Many are of a beach aesthetic, but there are others that are geared more towards pet lovers. (Dogs, in particular.) You can't really get more "unique" than original artwork, so this place is a great choice if you're looking for something really special at a very reasonable price point. Although the space is relatively small and the parking looks like it could be a little tricky during a busy season, Bungalow by the Sea is absolutely worth visiting.
