Five years of pain after a bridge and crowns (1 star)…read more In 2021 I had a bridge and several crowns placed at Vancouver Dental Spa. I am sharing the full timeline so others can make an informed decision. What happened Before treatment, an endodontist examined one of my teeth and told me the root canal had about a 50% chance of success. Despite that, the root canal treatment and the bridge were done on the same day. Problems started the next day. I later needed apical surgery, which did not fully resolve the pain. About a year later another tooth began hurting. I did not realize at first that it was a different tooth causing the pain. This year, one of the teeth outside the bridge broke. I was told it had been ground down too much. I could not find a dentist who could treat my teeth without removing the bridge. After five years of nearly constant tooth pain, the bridge was removed a month ago. What the dentist who removed it told me The gum under the bridge was in terrible condition, with a hematoma and a pressure sore from excessive pressure. The dentist did not believe the bridge was only five years old. In the dentist's opinion, my teeth had been ground down far more than necessary. The dentist also suggested this can happen when low-quality crowns are used, because they are more likely to break. This is only an assumption, not something proven, and I am not claiming it as fact. These opinions were verbal. On the same day, another bridge, placed 17 years ago by a different dentist, was also removed. The gum under that older bridge was in much better condition. My takeaways If a specialist gives low odds of success for a tooth, I would not proceed with a bridge on the same day. Ask exactly how much of the tooth will be reduced, what crown material and lab are used, and what follow-up the clinic offers if pain starts. I would have appreciated a more careful response when I reported pain after the first treatments. I am not trying to discourage anyone from seeking dental care, but this experience cost me money and five years of pain. I would update this review if the clinic contacts me to discuss it.

My teeth are in good shape so they've suggested a longer duration between X-rays, to be followed by an even longer duration should there continue to be positive results. I have found this dentist to be very trustworthy, and I have no qualms about continuing to go here. An additional thanks goes out to my RDH (Gennelle P.) for continuing to do a great job.

Upon my insisting to speak to the dentist who did the extraction they called him after arguing with me for a while. The dentist corrected the charge, however the receptionist still billed the wrong charge to my insurance, and only after me contacting my insurance providers and me sending them the printed proofs of this the insurance company corrected the charges. After experiencing this, I checked the history of my billings, only to find that they did same thing in 2023. In short - they are cheats.

One memorable experience: After I experienced some jaw pain, I came to see her to check things out. My teeth were all fine, so nothing she could do, but she suggested I go to a RMT who specializes in intra-oral massage. I had NEVER heard of this before, but I went to the specific RMT she mentioned and it was life changing. Seriously. After just one session, my jaw pain was gone. I was so relieved and grateful! If Dr Lee hasn't suggested that, I'm not sure what I would have done.

My teeth cleaning done in 45 minutes with X-rays and exam but guess what was the billing -- exam, 4 X-rays (bite one), 3.5 units for scaling and floride coat .. when I argued that it's over and illegal billing, apparently Dr Lee made the staff bill template and it's set. Everyone must bill 3.5 unit of scaling along with other procedures as a must.. is it legal? Or over billing? Shouldn't be it as work and time needed? It's about making more money

From the moment you check in, the staff are extremely friendly, kind and personable while being professional. The hygienist I saw was Natasha and not only was she super sweet and kind, she was full of helpful suggestions such as how to floss properly (she demonstrated it while I held a mirror so I could see). The dentist I saw is Dr. Shivji (junior). You can tell that he is confident in what he does and has great knowledge. Not only is her super personable but he is honest- he will not recommend getting things done that you don't really need just to make more money for the business (as I have experienced at other dental offices in the past). I get anxious about feeling anything when getting fillings and he was very gentle and reassuring, always checking to make sure I was doing ok. I trust him to give me good dental advice. Again, I cannot say enough good things about everyone working at Alpha Dental and my only regret is not being a patient here sooner.

Horrible service and treatment here recently. The appointment started 15 minutes late with little…read morecommunication about why there was a delay. I shared that I had a commitment after and could not stay later and they did not provide great advice about what treatment was still best to be done and what could be cut to finish on time. So I opted to skip the X-rays since I have no dental pain and am well past the age of needing braces. I then got guilt-tripped for not getting the X-ray. The scaling was super painful - more painful than any other I have experienced in 40 years. The hygienist repeatedly blamed me for not being able to treat me without the X-ray then left me in the room for 5 minutes before anyone came and talked to me. I ended up leaving halfway through the appointment. Total waste of time and very traumatizing for someone that had never had an issue with dentist appointments before.
