I found this out only after he left for medical leaving and I was totally abandoned by this firm! I paid 10k for my process that is still with them , but Chad and Les that should be taking care of my case, just don't care!!! If they are going to charge $300 per hour to ready and charge all the emails that I am sending asking to please reply to answer my questions, and also the numerous phone calls that Ieft with VM.... it will be terrible. They just want your money because you have 0 help. No sympathy from them. The reception woman called Sabrina is just too rude! I told it was an emergency and to her ask Les for the 2 time to make sure he calls me, and she told me that he has a client and would return my call maybe in 24hrs! THIS WAS AN EMERGENCY!!!! And if it was going to count 24 hours for a reply, I was in advantage, because I sent an email to Les with questions a week ago and NOTHING!!! The person that took my call shared that Ms. Mcllwain would only have an initial call with me for $100, would need a $5,000 retainer for any follow-up and charge $300 an hour for time beyond the initial consultation. The call was strictly financial focused. My objective for an initial call was to validate if Ms. Mcllwain had the background to meet my needs, was interested in my case and to see if we were compatible. Ms. Mcllwain also reached out to me in a follow-up email stating that she needed to be paid even if we have a "meet and greet". I have worked with multiple attorneys and have never experienced such a money first approach. Other attorneys I have worked with have instilled confidence that they had a fiduciary duty to act for the benefit of their client. I was not under the impression from my initial contact with this firm that this was in their core values.

Then he proceeded to completely fail in any attempt to represent me. He was so awful that the judge actually dismissed the case without prejudice, and the judge literally said, that if I could find another avenue to address this, and give me an opportunity to find another lawyer. That tells you how bad he was, even the judge saw his incompetence. I wouldn't recommend him to the devil himself. Stay away from this man. Mr. Savage was able to quickly pick up my case when my former firm/attorney retired from family law. He acted with urgency, making time to review all previous materials and correspondences, to meet with me to understand my goals, and clearly communicated next steps and timeline. It is clear to me that Mr. Savage is very comfortable and knowledgeable when it comes to family law. He was able to catch small things that my previous attorney missed or actions the former firm had taken that were no longer the standard. Julie is best suited for cases that are likely to settle in mediation or arbitration. You can tell by looking at her web site which clearly states they prefer Collaboration, Mediation, and Arbitration and I quote: ..."We reserve the use of litigation - the use of the courts to make decisions for the family - as a last resort for our clients..." I suggest you heed this, it's a warning. Julie sucks in court. She was not prepared, was not organized, and during one short hearing when Julie spoke, my family member counted 33 "umms and ahhhs" as he shrunk in his chair. Bad place to realize you are not represented by an experienced litigator that lights up when it's their turn to speak, becomes a presence, a force to be reckoned with. Julie is none of that. Julie will steer you to get along, don't rattle the cage, to give in, and she does not like the courtroom. We warned Julie we had a very high conflict case that was unlikely to settle. When opposing party pulled stunts, Julie's frustration was always directed at her client, my family member. She gets mad and literally yells at and belittles clients to their face--clients that are already traumatized by the high conflict nature of the relationship they are extricating themself from. It all came crashing down during a phone call between my family member and Julie. After yelling at him and slamming down the phone, she missed the handset cradle--she continued yelling in her office (to her son Nicholas who works for her), thinking she had hung up. "I HATE THIS CASE - XX must be stupid, doesn't care about money" --on and on (can't go into case specifics)-- for 4-5 minutes as family member listened to what Julie and Nicholas *really* thought about him and the case, until she figured out the phone had not hung up. Whoops. I gave one star because Julie does have redeeming qualities. She's just not good in court, nor is she able to handle truly high conflict cases with empathy and grace. To Julie's credit, she writes good letters, but forgets to use spellcheck, or hover over underlines--lots of typos. She also introduced us to 191 restrictions in parenting plans which prior counsel did not know about or mention. She is probably very good at collaboration, mediation and arbitration but we don't know, our case was never headed that way. We have new counsel, a brilliant experienced litigator that comes to court 100% prepared, large and in charge. He is totally unfazed by the high conflict antics of opposing party, to the contrary, he exhibits empathy, and watches for his place to jump in to make it stop. On the last round of motion flurry, while we are still processing what just happened, he is half way to the next goalpost. Incredible. In the end I felt like I got more than I paid for with a contract that went over the details I felt were most important and some that he mentioned that I never thought of. I wish there was something more than the 5 stars because his attention to detail, customer service, patience with a new business owner on what can and cant go on the contract and most of all giving me the time of day! The last one should seem expected but a lot of places we called wouldn't even give our small business the time of day. Just told us they only work with larger businesses.
