I divorced many years ago. My $5000 retainer was eaten up quickly because every phone call and email (just checking in) was returned to the other party even after I advised my attorney that the other party intended to cost me every penny and to please not answer worthless calls and emails. My divorce ended up costing me $18,000 plus. I did not really get any good legal advice throughout the whole process. Mediation was a nightmare. I felt like there was no care or consideration at all. This was my third attorney in a divorce case and to say the least, Mr. Miller knocked it out of the park. He was responsive, came up to speed super quick on the case, and addressed all of my concerns. He brought an excellent strategy and court presence backed up by Debbie, who amazed me with her thoroughness and attention to detail. This rating isn't for Ken Brewe specifically, although on the initial visit he failed to grasp what I was there for. I came with a complicated case on which a lot of time and money had been spent. I was looking for a lawyer with trial experience to take it to court. I had all the documents and exhibits in order. He assigned Shayla McKee to work on my case but when we met with her she refused to look at anything I had brought. She actually did the "talk to the hand" move three times to stop me from explaining my situation! I could feel my face turn bright red at her rudeness and when she became more hostile and dismissive I had to leave, frustrated and insulted. Nothing got done on my case but I ended up with a $1,870.00 bill for an unproductive and extremely unpleasant experience. read more

I recommend Brewe Layman if you have significant wealth to protect, because they are good lawyers. Otherwise, look elsewhere, as they'll gobble up your assets one email at a time. Eventually you stop communicating for fear of the fees. I spent 10x more a maintenance reduction and ensuing appeal than the initial divorce; won both that should've been slam dunks. I consider myself the ideal customer with fast response, and concise and accurate data. The entire legal process very painful; not Brewe's fault. I was involved in a very contentious custody battle with an abusive husband that was very wealthy and I was a stay at home mom . This law firm allowed suggested high end forensic evaluators that were corrupt and committed perjury to the court , a counselor for the kids that was involved with this evaluator who lied about my daughter being touched in a inappropriate way by her step dad and Ken Brewe also hired a Forensic high end Business auditor that was apparently sick and went on medical leave during our divorce but my lawyer shared emails that this forensic auditor supposedly sent which I found out years later were lies as he was retired and could not of sent emails from the firm. The amount of corruption I discovered has been un-real and for Ken Brewe to be named a "Super Lawyer" is a huge problem with our custody laws in place and Ken Brewe is the poster child of Corruption in Custody cases and he needs to be held accountable ! So if you want to spend mega dollars for a lawyer that won't even show up to a hearing involving loosing your kids then hire Ken Brewe for a million dollars . I will also say his terrible job representing me and loosing my kids due to his back door deal with my ex ...my girls have been spiraling since that day because the sick abusive parent that was given custody. The kids will never matter to Ken Brewe because he will do anything to make a lot of money even if it means making a deal with the other side and doesn't serve the kids best interest . This firm is the absolute worst, they do NOT care about the clients. They care about what their pocket books look like. in a matter of few months not only was the amount my retainer was spent. Add another 15-20 thousand on top of that, they don't do absolutely nothing for the clients only themselves. My cases are very hi settings and now hired new lawyer because this place is absolutely ridiculous, do not use any of these attorneys they just do it for your money and they don't do absolutely anything! read more

I had a terrible experience at Brewe Layman. Brewe Layman was recommended to me for my complicated divorce. There was domestic abuse involved, a business, properties, and many other factors. That $6,000.00 retainer was spent immediately on many useless discoveries. After this, he bled my high-limit credit card dry. A couple of times they, (Brewe and another attorney that he sent to court with his instructions) were able to get my husband to pay the spousal maintenance (that he was supposed to be paying), by winning in court. What I really needed was for someone to assist me with the maintenance and get a divorce. What did Ken Brewe do? He spent down all of my funds and bled me dry. I was starting my life completely over and working at a low-wage job. He then arranged for a big meeting and dropped my case. This attorney is not in it for his clients. He can be condescending, uncaring and most of the time you will not get to speak to him, you will speak to a paralegal. In addition, I do not believe that he went to court for my case once, he sent another attorney. RUN! It took me three-years and two-attorneys to get divorced. My second attorney's retainer was only $2,000.00. read more

You pay for what you get. A good attorney is not cheap. They focus on the Law and back it up. They tell you when not to focus on the wrong parts of the process example don't send us this is not relevant. Just be aware that depending on your situation you may settle for less than you think you deserve. But for the most part they are here for you, by the time you get done with your divorce you might feel as though your paralegal is now your best friend or part of your family! They care about you and they care about helping you! They are persistent to get the court dates scheduled in a timely manner for some County's this is a real struggle. They are always on top of the the next step of the process before your even there. Which is always helpful and that will save you time and money in the long run. read more

Out of them all, this firm was the one that I felt immediately comfortable and confidant with. I was responded to the same day with help. I hired Jeanne Barrans. She is has been amazing throughout my difficult process. I needed her help and she has got me through the hardest part of it. Everyone in the office are very polite and patient. I recently had a difficult parenting plan and child support issue and was thrilled to have Bob as my attorney. He was able to work through my complicated case quickly and return favorable results. His assistant is incredibly knowledgeable, intelligent and helpful. Her responses to my phone calls and emails were prompt and often came after hours and her days off. Their dedication to my case was comforting in such a stressful time. My relationship with my son has benefited from their work and expertise. I moved out of state for work and was able to get ample time with my son and child support that was fair and not extravagant even though my income is high. If you are entering a difficult time, as all divorce and child custody/support issues are, Brewe Layman is a great choice. If you want an expert and professional group on your side, Bob comes highly recommended by me. A less favorable outcome would have come from my situation if I did not have them on my side. These are stressful and complicated matters and you want people like them working on your behalf. The fees were fair and certainly not excessive. Attorneys cost money and Bob was worth the cost I paid for his services. My suggestion is to be the one to file in your matter first. Better to be on the offense, rather than defense. Do not recommend using this firm. I'm just going to highlight the unprofessional moments that really made me lose any confidence I had in this firm. After going through mediation and trying to sign the agreement it was a total mess. They messed up the paperwork too many times to count, they would send it back and there where errors. So I would have to point out that it didn't make the CR2 agreement. They didn't even spell my name right, not even on the final paperwork after I asked them to fix it. The court date had to keep getting moved back because they paperwork kept having so many errors. Which fine I get it we all make mistakes, but they charged me another 2,800 after mediation because of the delays and they weren't my fault. And that charge just hit my credit card without any bill being sent to me explaining what the services rendered the charge, I didn't get that until I calling the billing department. They claimed it was an email issue, funny though because my email works just fine when the paralegal would send me "updates" and then tried to charge me another 1,200 once again without a statement explaining the services provided. I get it if you are talking with the Attorney formally and they are giving you professional legal advice yes you have to pay for that. But I lost my mind when I was being charged for errors of their end and the lack of sticking to a timeline. I did what I was supposed to now do your job. They did refund the last charge, but only after I called the paralegal out on it. I wanted to talk with my attorney but he was on vacation or something. And there was no apology or explanation. Once again they claimed it was an automatic billing error. But had I not said anything they would have just kept charging me and dragging out my case. And no I'm not happy with how the parenting plan worked out, I didn't feel represented during mediation, I felt like I gave up a lot more then I had to. But hey that's just the legal document that is binding to my kids and I for the next 14 years. If you want someone to pay attention to your case don't go with this firm. You may as well pay yourself because you'll have to do all the leg work while they charge you for brash e-mails with little substance leaving you confused and more stressed out about your divorce. read more

I would warn everyone to steer clear of this law firm. I was in a divorce case and had already spent over $8,000 while receiving little work in return. I was included on an email that had been shared between Ken Brewe and his staff, in which I was personally disparaged. How can you bad mouth a client, while you are supposed to be fighting for them?! Much to their embarrassment, I pointed this out. Obviously, they were willing to take my money, but weren't on my team. Since my assets had been frozen, I was going to have to delay my next payment. They dropped me as a client right before my court date, even though I had always paid in full leading up to the fact. I was left with no representation in court and over $8,000 being taken from me from this outfit. I still have their email, in which they disparage me and I should sue them for my money back. I will be glad to share this email with anyone who would like to see what this law firm is really like. read more

Horrible experience. Not recommended for divorce related issues. I repeatedly asked for advice from my attorney only to be answered by her legal assistant. They want money up front in large quantities and then do not provide any real service. For example, I asked my attorney what the strategy was going into the property division and child custody. She did not respond until 2 hours before my court appointment. At that point we exchanged several feverish emails and phone calls on what was acceptable. Then she botched the court documents so that the temporary parenting plan did not definitively call out who had custody of the children on a given holiday. When I received the interrogatories from the other attorney, she did not pre-screen them to advise me which ones to not answer because they were overly broad. Instead I sent them back twice and had answers that I painstakingly researched removed. My complaint there is that if these are fairly canned interrogatories, my attorney should have pre-screened them and told me not to answer those questions. She charged me hundreds of dollars just to schedule and reschedule court dates. I still don't have a copy of the interrogatories from my spouse, yet my spouse has the ones I sent in. No date for mediation has been set, but they want another 10,000 for trial fees in advance. Very difficult to work with. Not forthcoming with advice or information. More interested in collecting money. Feels like they are working more for my spouse than they are working for me. I haven't received one phone call from my attorney about my case since she called me two hours before the hearing for temporary support for my spouse. That was over 7 months ago! Ken Brewe has always been fair to me. I met him in his early years and although I can no longer afford him, he has been a good man. I am a Realtor and last year a young client of mine husband died. She is from the Ukraine and has two children. Ken had one of his staff do the probate for free. She ultimately had to file for bankruptcy and he assisted in that matter as well. On another occasion, when my children were young, someting happened to my daughter and Ken went to court and got the protection we needed with out billing me or dragging me into court. I am sorry to hear someone feels he is a rich scumbag,egomaniac arrogant schister lawyer. Yes, you do have to bring money and I know it is a lot. That part is sad, I guess he can charge what the market will bare. I have been using Robert Alexandar, he is a lot less money and is in the Everett area. My children are grown and gone, and my life is more calm, no more retainers for me. read more
