I've been a Burke Williams member for years -- mostly visiting the Hollywood location, and more recently Woodland Hills since moving to the Valley. A friend recommended the Sherman Oaks branch, so I emailed the manager ahead of time for therapist recommendations. First impression: if it's your first time here, finding the location can be confusing. There aren't any large Burke Williams signs, and I actually had to call the branch to confirm they were inside the mall area. Parking is also a bit of a walk, and signage could definitely be improved. For reference, they're located next to 24 Hour Fitness on the second floor, Building A. Once inside, though, the experience improved immediately. I was greeted right away by two friendly receptionists, and check-in was quick and easy. Since it was my first time at this location, I asked if someone could show me around -- honestly, that probably should've been offered proactively. The men's spa attendant gave me a tour, and the interior reminded me a lot of the West Hollywood location: darker, older, and more traditional in style. One thing another Yelper mentioned was absolutely true -- the place feels like a maze, especially since the massage rooms are upstairs on another level. My therapist, Giovanni, was great. He asked about my preferred pressure before the session started, although he didn't really check in during the massage itself. That said, he definitely has his own massage style, and overall I enjoyed the treatment. The men's spa area was surprisingly quiet, which made for a peaceful experience. The steam room wasn't quite hot enough for me, so I ended up spending more time in the sauna instead. Overall, I had a nice experience and would come back. Just a heads-up about parking: it's validated at a discounted rate, but if you stay longer, it can add up. Formulaic. If you only read one word of this review, it's formulaic. Now my experience. When I checked in, I was given a key and pointed to a door. The receptionist didn't ask if I'd been there before or if I needed any direction. Ok. I went through the door and wandered the hall for a moment when I was able to quietly catch someone. I told her I had no idea where to go or what to do. She kindly directed me to the locker room, found my locker, and brought a pair of slippers that fit. My masseuse met me outside the locker room and led me to the massage room. She asked me if there were areas that I'd like focused on. Yes. (A pinched nerve on the right side of my back and I love a head massage.) Great. I guess she forgot about the pinched nerve. So I waited through the fine 80 minute formulaic massage for her to work on the grand finale of my head. Two minutes. Yes a grand total of two minutes if I'm being generous. Thanks. I've been purchasing gift certificates from Burke Williams for years, so my recent experience at the Sherman Oaks location was shocking. About 15 minutes into my massage, it was clear the technique was not working. The therapist used almost exclusively aggressive elbow pressure. When I politely said it was uncomfortable and asked if the entire session would be done that way, she responded with attitude and then essentially stopped massaging, just spreading oil on my back. It was 15 minutes of that, I asked to end the service. When I explained to the manager that it had been 15 minutes of unpleasantness, she said fine, she wouldn't charge me but the way it was handled felt like I should be grateful for that. There was no real acknowledgment of the poor experience. Instead of offering to have me wait for another therapist or rescheduling me, she suggested I "take a bath." When I declined, she told me I could try another location. At the front desk, multiple employees were huddled together looking at me, which only added to the discomfort. I had arranged childcare to be there and expected a relaxing, professional experience. Instead, I left feeling dismissed and what a waste of time. They also refused to give back the money for the gift certificate to the person who got it for me. For a brand that markets itself as luxury, the lack of professionalism and basic customer care was extremely disappointing. After years of loyalty, I'll never go to that location again. Ya boy is getting old smh! I've had this pain shooting from my lower back to my foot and when I looked it up on google, all signs pointed to a sciatica nerve smh. So I decided that I'd go have it massaged out at Burke so I could feel 100% again. I had some gift certificates so I reached out to one of my boys to roll out with me. Burke is located in the Sherman oaks galleria so my advice is to park in the valet and take the escalators up to the third floor. Also remember that Burke validates but it's only for 2 hours. The place smelled amazing when we walked in and checking in was a breeze. Go an hour or two early before your message so you can take advantage of the amenities you get with the purchase of your message. They have a hot spa, a steam room, showers and a nice quiet area to relax in. They provide everything from shampoo, mouthwash, deodorant, Q-tips and anything else you need. They have fruit, fruit infused water and tea. Luckily I was paired up with a wonderful lady named G who focused on my lower back and my left leg to massage out the pain I was having. She hit all the right areas and stretched me out to where I can hardly feel the pain as I type this. I really enjoyed G and my massage, so I'm going to try to schedule a pure relaxation massage once every two weeks. The reason I'm giving it a 4 is because I've been to massage place in Huntington and you could order snacks/food, they had an outdoor area and not only did they have the male and female spa, they also had a coed spa. I just did not love my experience here and honestly I think it's the space itself that made it unenjoyable. I was greeted pretty immediately and their lobby was nice, but behind those doors lies a dark and claustrophobic spa. In the lounge, seats are crammed together and multiple women with tablets lined the hallway. It didn't give me spa vibes at all. I felt awkward that the place where we waited for our treatment was also like a waiting area for people who finished theirs, so it was a combo of people in robes and not in robes which felt weird. Once I got walked into the spa, my locker was located in an area where EVERYONE had to walk past me but not walk, like slide their way behind me because there is no room to walk anywhere here. Even walking to the showers the walkway is so narrow, two people can't pass each other without shimmying out of the way a little. Everything was clean so that's a plus of course. When my masseuse came to get me, we went on a long walk up a couple flights of stairs (again, avoiding other people walking the same hallway) and down a few long hallways to get my room. I felt so disoriented and it felt so dark and gloomy. Not relaxing for me at all. My massage was very mediocre. I got the relaxation one and I was wondering WHY my masseuse wasn't using enough oil or product or whatever because I could feel how dry their hands were on my skin. The oils didn't even smell particularly good. I don't know what made this the relaxation massage, it just felt like a basic message. After my treatment when I'm all tired from laying in the dark for an hour, off we shuffled back through the labyrinth of hallways and stairwells back to the spa area. I felt so dizzy and rushed to be on the move that I clutched the hand rail for dear life, hoping I didn't topple over into any of the other dozen people coming up and down at the same time. The people here were very friendly and I appreciated the mini tour, but wow. The upsell for the membership at checkout was brutal. I declined it twice and she continued to give me the whole pitch (and after I told her I heard it before). What a way to leave a yucky taste in my mouth. I used to like Burke Williams. Maybe it's just this location because I recall Woodland Hills being nice but it's been a long time. Came for a girls day at that spa and was pleased with my massage and experience. There's tons of signs everything to put away your phones and use spa voices which I appreciate so we could disconnect and relax. The women's and men's spa areas are separate which has a jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, locker room and showers. They have tons of their products everywhere to help you shower and get ready after your service. It's just a little order inside and has a darker vibe. They had lots of teas and fruit infused waters in most of the areas for you to enjoy and keep yourself hydrated. We went on a Saturday so it very busy. Unfortunately as we were waiting for our service there was one guy in the front waiting area with his AirPods on having a loud conversation and even though several staff members walked by no one addressed him. Everyone on the staff that we encountered were all very friendly though. Like all Burke Williams they have a membership which offers discounted prices. I originally booked a spa day for my two daughters and a massage for myself at the Woodland Hills location. Unfortunately, due to a scheduling conflict, I needed to cancel my massage but still planned to enjoy the spa day with my daughters. When I called to cancel the massage and convert my reservation to a spa day only, I was told this was not possible unless I kept the massage or scheduled another treatment, as the location was fully booked. As a result, I was directed to the Sherman Oaks location instead. This turned out to be an extremely disappointing experience. The Sherman Oaks location was very small, overcrowded, and clearly overbooked. We had to wait to use the steam room and wait for showers, making the experience packed and unpleasant. To make matters worse, while I was showering, the conditioner bottle actually contained shampoo, forcing me to step out and wait again for another shower to open just to use conditioner. Additionally, there were no clean hair brushes available, and I was forced to share a hair brush with my daughter, which is unacceptable at a spa of this caliber. The lighted mirrors were also not functioning, making it difficult to get ready. I do not understand how a smaller location like Sherman Oaks could be so overbooked, while the much larger Woodland Hills location would not allow one additional guest--especially given that I already had a reservation there. This visit was meant to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday, and instead, I feel that I wasted three spa day passes on a very poor experience. After a much anticipated Mother's Day mother daughter spa day, I disappointingly left fuming and frustrated instead of relaxed. We booked two Mother's Day 65 min specials, my mother Trisha Russell who has a membership with you, has been aiming for me to join as a member so I was truly excited to experience what she's talked so highly of. When we checked in for our 6 and 6:15pm massage we were told we had the time wrong and that it was for 6 and 6:30, my mom showed the email and then staff realized that someone tried to call my mom and hour ago to let us know someone called out sick, understandable. We said fine 6 and 6:30, we asked about the upgrades and she said the masseuse would let us know about them based on what we needed. The pre-experience was wonderful, the amenities and service of staff were great. Then came my massage, my masseuse was an Asian gentleman who was very nice but once we started I immediately asked for him to use pressure, and then again, and then again. He said if I wanted a massage with pressure I should've booked something else. I asked what the massage would be that I would need to book, (because I can rub lotion on myself.) He said a deep tissue massage. I was relaxed leading up to the massage and then was very frustrated for the majority of the massage. For reference, I live in Santa Monica and get massages regularly. Last week I got a massage at Four Seasons Westlake and my massage was great with thumbs and great medium pressure. The massage was so soft there was at no point any thumbs used, I was so beyond disappointed. I also was never offered to purchase an upgrade I kept expecting to be offered hot stones, or anything more then the lotion application I was receiving. Then my "massage" ended early, which I was extremely confused by. I head to the front to ask the desk and was told my mother was left a message that because someone called out sick, that mine was changed to 50 min. At no point was this communicated to us until after the massage. We were at Mother's Day brunch of course we did not readily answer the phone right before our appointment. I then asked what I'm supposed to do with $70 left on the gift card and what services I could book. They said you can use the remaining gift card to purchase another massage. This infuriated me, I asked, "so because of your error I now need to spend more money to book another massage?" The other staff chimed in that I could purchase skincare from the store. I expressed how disappointed I was and went back to have tea inside with my mom. When we came to check out 20 min later and my mom shared she was a member and was disappointed, they then offered to get the manager and then she realized she had just gone on break. (Confused why the manager wasn't brought out the first time.) We were then given the customer service phone number. I am so disappointed that for a $500 massage experience we were met with poor communication, a poor massage experience, and upon sharing our dissatisfaction; we were met with no real time solution. Unacceptable for a luxury experience at this price point. As you can see I leave reviews often and leave 5 stars for 99% of the businesses, I let the staff know this as well, and I'm so sad to have to leave this establishment a low rating, I was so looking forward to becoming a member with my mom and coming regularly. I hope that if you short a future customer's experience that your staff attempts to offer them something to offset the bad news, and I hope they practice delivering the bad news in the first place. I visited Burke Williams on Thursday, March 5 for a prenatal massage that was supposed to include a pregnancy soaking tub. Unfortunately, the soaking bath was never provided. When I asked about it, I was told there was no one available to fill the tub at the moment. This was disappointing because the bath is advertised as part of the prenatal experience, and I specifically chose this treatment expecting the full service. If something like this cannot be provided, it should be communicated in advance or an alternative offered. I've been coming to BW since 2019 and Sherman Oaks is by far the best location. The atmosphere is calm, the front desk is kind, and their bench of therapists and estheticians is deep--I've never had a sub-par service, even when my regulars are booked. This week I tried two new pros and both were exceptional. Noah gave me one of the most relaxing massages I've ever had. He listened, dialed in the pressure perfectly, and--crucially--kept chatting to a minimum when he heard I was there to truly unwind. The quiet never felt awkward; he created space to relax. Cindy handled my spa-style facial in 50 minutes that somehow felt like a full 80--in the best way. Efficient without rushing, soothing when she did speak, and the post-glow said it all. I'll definitely be requesting her again. Bottom line: Don't sleep on Sherman Oaks--or on Noah and Cindy. Diamonds in the rough, and a team that consistently delivers. As much as I have visited this spa, I can't believe I've never written a review! I love coming here to treat myself, my family and friends! I ALWAYS leave relaxed and rejuvenated! (Always). Now the price is steep so get ready to spend upto $210 plus for a deep tissue not including tip BUT you deserve it girl! This might be the only reason why I'm not there every month like I want to be. Here is what I LOVE about this place! -The eucalyptus cold towels are my absolute favorite especially when I'm in the sauna! -I love the vanilla lemongrass tea in the waiting room. I can drink that forever! -love that you can use the spa for unlimited hours -they don't allow cell phones and loud talking, so you can really disconnect from the hectic noise of the city -They call you 5min from your appointment to the waiting room Here is what I don't fully love. -The parking can be a bit anything but they do validate upto certain hours. It's mall parking so you know how that goes. -I've had several massage therapist and a facial there and I've only been not fully satisfied once. Everyone is super professional and polite though l! -the waiting room can get loud and it's unisex and by the entrance. That can be a bit uncomfortable for some people. -The price has gone up for many services (including my favorite deep tissue massage). -Lastly, the front desk person that was there last time I visited was not the warmest person, which didn't fit the vibe of the spa for me. I've been getting massages regularly for years and have memberships at both Burke Williams and Squeeze, so it takes a lot to impress me. My session with Noah was easily the best massage I've had in a long time. He's extremely professional, grounded, and clearly knowledgeable about body anatomy. This wasn't a generic, routine massage. He paid close attention to where tension showed up and worked those areas with exactly the right amount of pressure. I felt genuinely cared for, not rushed or run through a formula. I've been coming here for years- after I received a free spa day during COVID for Nurses at the hospital I worked at. I loved it. As a former Esthetician turned nurse who has worked in top spas for over 20 years, including being part of the opening staff at the Ritz Carlton @ LA LIVE, and spa management for years as well... I think you could say I am a seasoned vet. My recent visit left me in shock, and my favorite day of the month, now has me looking to cancel my membership. It started with the hot tub being room temperature, but I assumed my core temp was up since I had just been in the sauna, and the steam room also did not seem as warm as usual... I decided to check after my service. If you have ever been to a BW Spa, then you are aware that in your respective genders spa area, clothing is optional. I do not wear clothing as walking around in a wet suit is not my idea of relaxing. Due to the clothing optional policy, it is clearly stated around the spa not to have phones out, so you can unwind AND for privacy of the guests. I have rarely seen this be an issue. In the past I saw staff that were supported and empowered to tell guests to put their devices away. NOT THIS DAY! To my shock and almost horror, as I stood naked in the spa area a woman confidently pulled out not just her cell phone, but posted up her laptop and went back and forth in a manner that I was actually concerned this woman might start a zoom work meeting! I immediately dressed and went outside where I alerted staff that a woman was on her LAPTOP and her phone in the spa- the worker audibly gasped and thanked me for bringing it to their attention. I sat and waited for my tech to pick me up for my service. **I will take the time NOW to preface that there are two areas where guests can go to use their devices if necessary that are out of the clothing optional areas** As I wait, the woman I alerted comes to the seating area with a woman dressed like the MOD (manager on duty) and points to me. In the middle of the waiting area, surrounded by guests- the manager sits next to me and immediately begins the following conversation: I just wanted to come speak with you about the woman on the laptop- it is our policy for no phones and devices but she is a very good regular here and so we made an exception for her... I look at her, clearly in shock and confusion and I let her continue her uncomfortable ramble. She goes on to say she is here often and needed to do a bit of work today... I don't bother to ask why she allowed that in the area where naked women are, as it is clear that woman and her money are more important than mine- and it's clear that this manager didn't even BOTHER to look to see what kind of money, or membership I have had with BW. She then continues to say she thinks her husband is also here, so she needed to work while he was in his service. I ask, while she is having a spa day?? - in a tone that suggests, ARE YOU SERIOUS? I then wonder if she knew that I have been working in spas for 20 years, if her customer service skills would be different... She then asks if I am about to be picked up for my service. I think to myself, ok- maybe she will try to do SOMETHING right here... a complementarily add on, offer some tea, etc. I say yes. her response was "Ok, well she should be done by the time you come out" I just sat there, unblinking- and then she left. I am so distracted and in shock during my massage, just thinking over and over again how that woman and her needs were more important than all of the other guests comfort and privacy, and how rules, I guess- are allowed to be broken by SOME, and not others... and that some members, are more important than others... What a disgusting taste in my mouth, as I thought how absurd it would be if anyone had done that in any of the spas I have ever worked in! I returned from my service and went back to the hot tub- still a room temp bubble bath... Then I look at the woman in the tub with me, and then two women walking by... Well, they must have seen the exception to the rule, because this one had her phone in the hot tub, and the two women walking by were on their phones, and one was walking around with her phone and her headphones in! In shock, and now disgust- I leave the hot tub, it's clear the message has been set for the day. As I get out, one of the attendants gives me a look as she looks at the women on their phones- it is CLEAR to me that she is upset, but she does not feel empowered or supported by her management team to tell them devices are not allowed and to step out if they need to use them. At that point I decided I am done, right this second, I am not spending another moment in here. Not even a shower to remove the chlorine, I would rather go be at peace in my own home. I just wrote in to discuss canceling my membership, they charged into this month to cover my add on, so I don't have enough to cover a final service! FABULOUS *eye roll* read more

The appointments seem to be overbooked and the providers were rushed which, didn't seem fair. I had a facial that was just 'meh'. I don't know about you, but I like to feel that the provider doesn't have anything else on their mind except my skin and not the clock. And I felt that this poor girl was under pressure. I am happy that I received the cleansing, the creams and extremely gentle extractions that I wouldn't normally have had, so I think it was worth it. Very disappointing first experience. Not sure if it was just the location or what but I was gifted an 80 minute massage gift card with enhancement and 1 day pass, I booked my service through phone the day prior and only availability was a 65 minute so I said that's fine I'm assuming the credit was up to 80 minute service, representative over the phone assured I was going to have a left over balance on my gift card since I was only getting a 65 minute, my leftover balance was going towards gratuity. Upon exiting and giving my gift card up front I get told I have a balance remaining, they weren't honoring my gift card/certificate. A manager or lead whatever she was, was standing right there and didn't intervene or bother to even explain anything. Was planning on getting a few got certificates to gift to family and friends but with the way it turned out I changed my mind because I now know they won't honor what the original gift certificate is for. read more

This is definitely my favorite place in Sherman Oaks. It was my home away from home and I used to hang out here every day when I lived in the area between 2007-2012. Those were definitely the good old days! They renovated a spa a couple years ago and it looks so much bigger now! All of the aestheticians and massage therapists are very well trained and they're also very accommodating and try to make sure that your treatment is perfect. I had an anti aging facial with Ozzie and she's AMAZING!! Everyone should come here and spend a few hours when they can de-stress. I've been going to Burke-Williams since 1998 and while the spa has certainly seen its ups and downs, I've always enjoyed it. Until two weeks ago. Alone in the men's spa following a long massage, and following the therapist's recommendations to get more heat to my muscles, I spent a leisurely while moving between the sauna, jacuzzi and steam room. These days, the men's spa is always pretty quiet, but that Sunday afternoon (October 19) was vacant. While I was in the sauna, the spa attendant passed by and looked in once, twice, then opened the door and offered me water. Each time, I had to move my towel back across my body, as it seemed increasingly like he was spying or gawking. Finally, he opened the door and snapped at me, "Sir! You cannot mast**bate in here!" Which I was not doing. And I was alone. And the whole thing creeped me out to the point that I am DONE with Burke-Williams after 27 years. It was absolutely humiliating and bizarre, and it's proof that ONE employee can entirely ruin a business for a longtime customer. Sorry, Burke Williams. It's been nice, but I'm never going back. read more

I do however take them into consideration to avoid repeating others' bad experiences ... insight... presented a few repeated observations to note: * Appreciate and recognize talented and highly skilled professionals who love their craft and unfortunately over time look perpetually exhausted. ** three facility observations involved Plumbing, cleanliness due to the backups, and damaging hair products. The rest were artificially created by improper training:mentoring. Now I'm wondering if the damaging hair products catalyzed the plumbing issues. I noticed hair issues with others and eventually... My hair took a beating following bw advice to leave conditioner in my hair in the sauna, Frying my hair. I'd started taking in Paul Mitchell restorative hair products purchased downstairs into the shower and the employee practically accused me of taking home what I was avoiding, hair damaging products they were providing. How limited must the mind be for the eyes to not see. Over time amazing technicians/people outnumbered the limited and Granted that the positives were more frequent than the negatives, but the negatives were unnecessary and definitely avoidable with proper education and mentoring. Forewarned Fair-warned. The solutions start and issues end with good leadership. No excuses. I've been to Burke Williams Sherman Oaks a few times, but I usually prefer the Woodland Hills location. Unfortunately, Woodland Hills was booked, so I decided to come here. The main issue I have with this location is the steam room. It takes forever to turn on, and when it does, it barely feels like a steam room. People keep walking in and out, which lets what little steam there is escape. I mentioned this issue at the front desk, but nothing has been done. The whole point of using the steam room is to actually get steam, and it should turn on more frequently--not every 30 minutes. It's disappointing to pay for a premium spa service and not have basic amenities work properly. Until this is fixed, I'll continue to choose Woodland Hills whenever possible. read more
