LOVELY PLACE, BUT WATCH OUT FOR THE UPSELL - Right on Paseo de la Reforma, on the second floor,…read moreyou'll find The Capital Grille, the same upscale chain you'll see in many major cities. They pride themselves on an elegant atmosphere, polished service, and fine dining, and to be fair, they deliver on the vibe. You feel like a bigshot the moment you walk in. The servers are friendly and professional, and the menu, while notably expensive overall, focuses heavily on high-end steaks and classic sides. We didn't order steak, as the prices were well beyond what we wanted to spend, so we opted for the dry-aged burger at around $24 USD. We also ordered grilled asparagus, and the burger came with truffle fries. The asparagus was quite good. The fries were decent. The burger, however, was dry, bland, and a bit tough, and it arrived overcooked despite ordering it medium. There was also an issue with the wine menu. When presented with options, the more economical bottles (still $60 usd) we asked about never seemed to be available, while plenty of alternatives at roughly double the price were readily available. That was odd notably because the menu was electronic... Overall, it wasn't a bad experience. It's a lovely place, and it's perfectly suited for a drink and maybe an appetizer if you're looking for atmosphere. Just be prepared to pay for the experience itself. If you are, you'll probably have a good time. If not, you may leave feeling a bit soured. Happy eating from John Seeto!

We capped our trip to this fair country with a visit to (of course) Capital Grille. You know with…read morethe extra "e" in Grill you're not in Providence RI (yes founded 1990 if you can believe it). But the service and ambiance had all the hallmarks of top-of-brand. Firstly, don't expect to escape this establishment without a much lighter wallet, so cash in some of those stocks around the roundabout at the Mexican Stock Exchange and go for food-broke! Our waiter was a master at several things: among them the upsell. I nearly skipped the appetizer until he informed of the "half cup" of soup. A finished creamy clam chowder later, I was admiring my choice and his skilled power of suggestion. Wait! Is that truffle I see multiple times on the menu? One day I'll order 100% truffle items, but I was with a business group, so I'd better act all businessy. "Hey any of you up for 100% truffle?" (I said in my head). If only! Maybe I'll find another business group to hang with. I hear Truffle Co is hiring (I wouldn't last a week). Back to the main event. I of course got the truffle mushroom risotto, and here comes Mr Upsell back for the win: "you would certainly like prawns with that." But of course. I know I should have gotten steak, but I was finishing a long week of meat-indulging, so I needed a reprieve. I was so healthy with seared spinach instead of creamed. But as usual the sides are enormous, so soon I was passing that and receiving Mac-n-cheese and truffle fries. This meal is turning out to be healthy! Everybody's steak looked fabulous, as did the fish, and whatever else anybody got, etc. My "dessert splitting" compadre didn't disappoint, and we got the crème brûlée, which was as it should be (and big enough for three). That and a cappuccino put me into the happiness zone. Perhaps I'll return soon, not that I wouldn't go back tomorrow, it's just I probably need to wait for my stocks to come back up a little before the next visit.

This restaurant was just a short walk from my hotel in Roma Norte-along the walk I think I counted 4 or 5 Michelin rated restaurants on my path-they are everywhere in Mexico City. When we arrived at the restaurant they seated us right away and I noticed how great the atmosphere was in the restaurant-this was for sure a date night or celebratory type of place-I wouldn't say fancy or upscale but definitely a step up from my restaurants I went to so far in Mexico City. Upon sitting down we started with a couple of really pretty cocktails-. Strawberry Fields-A gin drink that is a refreshing twist on a Negroni-I enjoyed it very much and may have been the best cocktail I had in Mexico City.($185.00) Margarita De Perlas-a tequila drink with lime and orange infusion topped with pearls of tapioca-It was a great spin on a margarita with the added slightly sweet taste of tapioca pearls-decent drink.($220.00) For dinner we ordered a few items. Bowie Burger-a burger featuring a top sirloin and wagyu cross patty topped with Swiss cheese, roasted poblanos, bacon, guacamole and tortilla chips-This burger was so delicious-perfectly cooked and seasoned,so juicy-it was spicy but incredibly flavorful -loved it.($275.00) Curly Fries-Perfectly seasoned, super crunchy-very tasty ($85.00) Caesar Salad-well made salad with great tasting dressing and crunchy croutons.($130.00) This place is a very special restaurant in a city that is filled with special restaurants-I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Mexico City, specifically the Roma Norte neighborhood-a true joy.

Just confidently walk into the storefront food shop with a large table and chairs and ten then you have a reservation! They were very friendly and waved us in off the sidewalk as we were a bit bewildered (and didn't have reservations; just hoping and praying). Once inside the dark, very busy space with a couple rooms, long bar and some booth seating, the friendly, English speaking, knowledgeable staff will explain the large cocktail menu (many which can be made without alcohol if that's your thing). There is a creative beverage for every palate and there is a section dedicated to collaborations with mixologists from all over the world. Will definitely return to sample several more of these unique drinks. And also the food, which were didn't try as we came after dinner.

It's considered the "OG speakeasy" of the city and focus on creative cocktails from around the world. We didn't realize that the storefront was a simple looking restaurant so we kept walking back and forth. The entrance to the bar was in the back leading us to a completely different space. We made reservations and it's pretty much required to have one to be seated. Depending on your table size you might also have to share a table with others but they also have bar counter space. Their main menu of 12 cocktails were all made by the bartenders there. Part of the menu also contained cocktails from other bars around the world. The end of the menu was rounded out with classic cocktails with a Hanky Panky twist. Our party of five ordered most of the 12 main cocktails and some of the others. My favorites were the il fresco (peachy and coffee-y), grand bazaar (most spirit forward drink they have), and hanky panky (fat-washed with cacao nibs and menthol from fernet branca). All of the drinks were great though. The hot dog was also delicious! When we left we walked out of a Modelo "fridge" which was unique. The space and the vibes really were the definition of "speakeasy" because it was such a cool space. The environment was so fun and we had such a good time here.
