I chose the, NY Strip with two sides for $22. In addition to the dinner specials, they had Martinis for $5. That's an affordable meal, or a very budget friendly date. As my usual, dining a lone so I sat at the bar. I started out with a, Dirty Martini. I kinda knew I was going to order the NY Strip, but I still took a moment and looked over the menu. I mainly was studying what sides were available. I ordered my steak, medium rare and the kitchen nailed it. Typically I order a side house salad when eating at CHT, but tonight I paid an up-charge and enjoyed their Brussels Sprouts. My second side was a huge Baked Potato. It was so big, I took half of it home and had American Fries with my breakfast. For $22, it was a delicious meal. Being a busy Saturday night, the bartender did a good job taking care of the servers and guest sitting at the bar. Good Service, Good Food and Good Value will have me returning to Charcoal House Tavern.

I've enjoyed burgers, chicken wings, pork tenderloin and steak sandwiches. Plus, a variety of their steaks, Meatloaf and most recently, their fried chicken. Not to mention the variety of craft beers and the masterfully made, Mules. They get bonus points for serving the mules in copper mugs. My recent visit was for the Fried Chicken. I had plans to go on Friday for one of their Lenten Specials, but when I saw on Facebook that the Thursday special was Fried Chicken, I changed my mind and I am glad I did. The chicken was super crispy and full of flavor. The four pieces were good sized and the meat was tender and juicy. It came with two sides, the promo suggested, mashed potatoes with milk gravy and French style green beans. If you want to, they allow you to choose other sides off the menu. I don't know why somebody would want to, the sides they recommended makes for a Sunday Dinner feeling. The service is always great. All of the staff are friendly and the owner goes around talking to all his guest. I typically sit at the bar and I like that they have outlets and hooks under the bar. Outlets come in handy when you need a quick charge and the hooks for purses or a jacket. They offer live music of Friday and Saturday and the huge patio is dog friendly. I know everyone needs a day off, but I do wish they were open on Sundays. If they were, I'd probably would eat there more often. When: March 5, 2026 Why: Checking out their Chicken Dinner.

When Vegas Came to Jerseyville…read more I have dear friends who live in Jerseyville and ALWAYS talk about how much they love Nick's Pancake House. When I had the chance to visit them in Jerseyville, and we talked about where to have breakfast, I knew it had to be Nick's. I was NOT disappointed in the least, the service and the meal were everything I had expected after hearing from my friends. The portions were enormous, the ingredients were fresh, everything was delicious. I chose to have the "Hungry Man" which consisted of 3 eggs any way, sausage, bacon, hash browns, and a half order of biscuits & gravy (and the gravy was goooood y'all). Nick himself stopped by to say hello as well so it was nice to visit with him. I have eaten breakfast all over my adopted city of Las Vegas, NV, and I would put anything at Nick's up against anything found here in Vegas. (One of our party had the strawberry banana crepes and I had serious crepe envy when hers were delivered! They looked amazing!) If you're ever roaming around Jerseyville, IL and find yourself hungry - check out Nick's and tell him Vegas sent you. You will not be disappointed!!

There were cars lined up behind me all the way to the street. I eventually got tired of waiting and drove around it only to find out that there was nobody in the van. I then drove around by the window and saw employees stand outside the restaurant. They told me that they were closed. I said that they should put out some signs that lets people know that. They pointed to a hand written note on a window and said that they did put signs out. They said that there are signs everywhere. I did not see any signs and there were others there that didn't see them as well. Those hand written notices may work for people that walk into the restaurant but most people going through the drive-through are probably not going to see it. A large sign saying "Sorry but we are closed" posted on the back of that van sitting next to the intercom would have made things a whole lot easier.

UPDATE as of 9/14/2022…read more The $8.00 transaction I referred to below has been credited to my account. It took over a month but it has been made right now. I think this is something that people should be made aware of. On August 7th I went to the MCDONALD'S restaurant in Jerseyville and attempted to placed an order through one of their self order kiosks. I placed my order using their selection screen and then paid for it with my debit card. The total amount came to $8 dollars. So here's where it gets interesting. It never gave me a order number or any type of receipt for the transaction. It didn't appear to me that it went through so I told one of the employees working behind the counter what happened. She went to the back to see if there was an order showing on their screen that had the items I ordered. She came back and informed me that they did not have any order showing those items on their screen so it didn't go through. She asked me if I wanted to just give her the order at the cash register. At this point I specifically asked her if that order at the kiosk gets charged to my account will they reimburse me for it. She said yes they would. So with that I placed the order at the cash register. I made some changes with the order at the cash register which caused the total amount to be $5.74 for that order. I then got my order and took it home. The next morning I pulled up my checking account via my online banking and to my dismay there was the $8.00 transaction charged to my account. I printed off the page with the charge to my checking and took it to the restaurant to get reimbursed for the charge. I spoke with the manager about it and she said that I would have to file a dispute for the charges with my bank which in this case is Credit Union 1. So that's what I did. After waiting a couple of weeks to hear from them I finally wrote them back to see where things are with this. They said that in order for them to dispute this transaction they need to have a receipt. And therein lies the rub. I don't have a receipt for that transaction. So it's kind of looking like I will not be getting my eight dollars back. It's not like eight dollars is going to break me. You can't hardly buy two gallons of gas with eight dollars but I really don't care to donate it to MCDONALD'S. So I am writing this just to let others know that I believe there are some issues with those self order kiosks. I have ordered through them before and didn't have a problem but this time it ripped me off. I will not ever be using them again. It's also going to be quite a while before I will be ordering anything from a MCDONALD,S.

The caramel frappe machine also seems to be down every time I go, so it's becoming impossible to get one. On top of that, the service has been consistently rude, and the inside of the building was dirty and poorly maintained. Overall, there are way too many issues for a place that should be providing quick, simple service. I really hope they improve their cleanliness, customer service, and availability of menu items.
