Cap n' Cork - Outside

During the holidays, I needed to buy some alcohol for all the festivities! It had been personally a…read morehard year for myself and my family. We wanted to thus drink because it was traditional to do so, would be comforting, and we wanted to both celebrate surviving it, in the case of my mom literally. My favorite type of wine is Albariño, it is a white wine native to Portugal (where it is known as Alvarinho) and Northwestern Spanish region of Galicia. For those reading and interested, this is the taste profile according to The Spruce Eats: "Albariño is a dry white wine with aromas of citrus and peach. On the palate, the wine can exhibit characteristics of grapefruit, lemon peel, apricot, and sweet melon. Because the grapes tend to grow in coastal regions, they can also have a touch of salinity. Some wines may exhibit a slightly bitter finish, similar to citrus pith. Overall, albariño is light-bodied and low in tannins but high in acid. The high acidity makes this wine refreshingly mouth-watering and best served well-chilled." I used to have it quite often when I lived in Miami, but had become a difficult thing to find up here. I was in the past able to order a number of them through a local liquor store near my house, but that sometimes required large minimum orders and that can be a bit of a pain. So i started checking out or calling local liquor and wine stores in the area. I was about to throw my hands up and give up when I came into this Cap n' Cork. I made my way to the wine section and beheld albariño. So glad I finally found a place I can get some of this wine by the bottle. Excellent!

So, I'll start by saying that this location is not huge, but they have a great selection of…read moreliterally everything. I grew up in Fort Wayne, but I moved away before I could take advantage of this location. Just went in for the first time about a week ago--and I'm so happy I did! When I first walked in, I was greeted by soemoen working--always a nice touch especially when I was looking for something specific for my mom. The man was super helpful, and after finding what I needed, I decided to check out the rest of the space. They have a staggering selection of wines and beers compared to many other places I've visited in Fort Wayne. And the selection in the place had many options that were locally sourced from Indiana, which is great if you're looking for new options made in the area! They had almost 2 fridge sections of just Indiana/Fort Wayne beers, which I love trying when I'm home from California. After picking out a local beer (Taxman), I wandered closer to the check out counter to find a tasting area! The man behind the tasting area said they are open everyday for tasting, and he also asked what I liked--and I ended up trying a limited edition Don Julio that had been aged in Scotch Barrels. It was fabulous and I would have never ever know this existed without his help! Loved my experience here and I can't wait to go back to try out more local options!

Drove to Bryan, Ohio for our birthdays to eat at Third Rail Saloon. We drove all the way there for…read moretheir famous bloody marys, which they did not have, unfortunately. We tried calling and looking on their website, but we didn't see anything, and I don't think they have a phone. We still had some of their regular bloody marys made by the owner, which were delicious. The owner was very friendly, helpful, and made us feel at home. The fried bologna sandwich was one of the best I've ever eaten. The bologna was very thick, and the bread was on thick, toasted Texas toast. The place was empty, so it was cool to have the entire back area to ourselves. The establishment was very cool and unique. I love the setup. It had a 60s/70s vibe. The inside was very clean. There was a huge pool table, darts, and board games. I also loved the huge moose and buffalo heads on the wall. Third Rail Saloon also has an outdoor area that looks like it would be a lot of fun in the summer. This place is a little pricey, in my opinion. Also, they didn't give us a receipt, and after we came home, we looked at our online debit card receipt and found that we were charged for two shots that we weren't supposed to be charged for. Overall, I think this place is awesome, and I would love to go back and try more menu items.
