We were staying in Peterson to do some biking. We walked here from our apartment. It was quite full of people who seemed to be all local. I enjoyed the bratwurst omelette with pancakes. Too much to eat! We also had Annika's cinnamon pancakes. Very good, reasonably priced breakfast. Nice place to return to when we get in the area again.

I was riding the Root River Trail and stopped in the little town of Peterson to grab lunch, and this was the only place in town. Many a local was there in the time just after lunch, so I felt it was a good bet for great fare. I was incorrect in that assumption. I ordered one of the specials, a Mushroom and Swiss burger for $6.99, but a side order of fries was an extra $2.00, and with drink, the bill came to almost $12.00. The burger was nothing to write home about, the fries weren't top notch, and the drink refill never got to the table. Service was friendly, but the girl said a refill on the drink was no problem , but then proceeded to take pie orders from other patrons and began to cut up the pies for them while I sat there. I'm thinking that I could get a great burger and fries at a much better place for that kind of money. Though I try to patronize local places, I will not stop here again.

A lovely little diner. The folks here were all very friendly, both employees and patrons. We will certainly be back!

The Burger Monarchy: A Paradox of Plenty in Miesville In the…read morequiet, pastoral stretches outside Eagan, there exists a roadside institution that defies the modern trend of curated minimalism. King's Place in Miesville is a relic of a different era, a burger joint that functions less like a restaurant and more like a high-volume assembly line of Americana. The menu is not merely large; it is an overwhelming, multi-page manifesto of beef. With roughly 80 to 100 variations on the burger--many named in tribute to the local Miesville Mudhens baseball team--the experience begins with a bout of genuine decision paralysis. For the average diner, the sheer volume of choices feels like a dare. It is a place where you can find almost any topping imaginable, which makes the absence of a simple fried mushroom all the more jarring. It is the one note the kitchen fails to hit in an otherwise exhaustive symphony. When the food does arrive, the logistics are the primary entertainment. The floor staff at King's Place perform a nightly feat of athletic grace, weaving through the crowded, character-filled dining room while balancing five or more burger trays at a time. It is a spectacle of efficiency that puts the sterile, automated nature of modern chains to shame. However, one must navigate the side dishes with a discerning eye. While the temptation to "upgrade" is always present, the seasoned waffle fries are an investment that yields little return; they are best skipped in favor of the standard fare. The real value here lies in the core product and the refreshing lack of pretension. Despite the fame and the daunting menu, the pricing remains stubbornly reasonable, a rare feat for an establishment that has transitioned from a local secret to a regional landmark. "Life is too short to miss out on the beautiful things like a double cheeseburger." -- Channing Tatum For those seeking the predictable polish of a franchise, King's Place will be a confusing sensory overload. But for the traveler who values soul, speed, and a price point that respects the wallet, this is a kingdom worth visiting--just don't expect to find a fried mushroom on your plate. It's just one gentleman boiling the burgers, and with some people ordering half a dozen at a time, things move slowly. There was no shade while waiting under the hot sun, it might be a good idea to wear a cap. The menu is as simple as it gets: burgers with or without onions, about $6 each and roughly slider-sized. Condiments are limited to mustard and ketchup, and they also sell canned drinks. There are a few small tables and chairs nearby if you want to eat right away. Overall, it was worth trying once for its history and classic Wisconsin charm.

We arrived around noon on a Saturday and waited in line for about 20 minutes. There's no shade while you wait, so plan accordingly especially in summer! Parking is free and fairly easy to find on the street. It was a bit confusing when we arrived, as there are two windows on opposite sides of the stand and no clear signage indicating where to order. Turns out, you can order from either window. The operation is run out of a small shed with four people working inside. One person was boiling the burger patties, another was taking orders at the window near candy company, a third was at the opposite window, and a fourth was handling payments. The menu is simple: burgers with or without onions, and three condiments--ketchup, mustard, and spicy mustard. Each burger is $6.50, and they do accept credit cards. As for the burger itself, it was okay. The meat didn't seem seasoned, but it wasn't dry thanks to the boiling method. The bun was basic, and the burger size was slightly larger than a slider. Personally, I think it's a bit pricey for what you get, but considering the stand has been around since 1909, they clearly have a loyal following. Overall, I'm glad we gave it a try--it's always fun to experience a bit of local food history.

Pete's Hamburgers - Great "boiled" burger! Surely worth trying!! Very unique. Patty tasted "clean" but surprisingly retained so much flavor.
