Chicken peanut stew dinner
Sho R.

I took out dinner from here on a weekday. On a weekday evening, street parking was not a problem. Dorowat was my favorite item. It was very flavorful. Chicken peanut stew was slightly less in flavor. Overall I found the food was slightly less authentic.

Darowat with injera

I have no idea why I was the only person in this place. This was my first time trying Ethiopian food and the darowat was incredible with the soft, crepelike injira. Service was polite and attentive, yet subtle. And the restaurant is clean and decorated with African art. Will be coming back for sure!

As a home chef, I've cooked and been to many different Ethiopian restaurants and this is BY FAR the worst. The gap between this and the second worst would be astronomically large. Not only that, it's the worst restaurant I've ever eaten at - period. The mesir has no flavor, and super watery. Wrong color and texture. Using potatoes and carrots to add to the dish which aren't authentic to mask small, cheap and unsavory portions. It tastes like they don't even use the correct and base ingredient Kibbeh (spiced butter). Small portions, and the cold lentil salad dish they give is just screaming F you to their own culture. DO NOT eat at this place. It's a straight disappointment and a bad representation of Ethiopian food... I seriously can't believe my taste buds were this disrespected. Flavor: 1/10 Portion: 1/10 Presentation: 1/10

I got the combo meal with injera. It was absolutely delicious - like a sourdough crepe. I was very pleased with the cocktails as well. Decently strong, and delicious. The portion size of the entrees is generous and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. Definitely a hidden gem of Willy St.!

Overall, this restaurant is one I would recommend for the experience. The food itself seems to be fairly representative of authentic Ethiopian food in the flavors and the way that it is prepared. The service has been quite sub par during my few visits, however. The wait staff is not very attentive, and my table was forgotten about a number of times on several occasions, despite the restaurant being quite empty. The food itself is good, and extremely flavorful. Personally, the Minchet abish was a little heavily salted when compared to other Ethiopian renditions I have tried in the past.

My favorite restaurant in Madison! Authentic, good food. Good people. Easy location. I go whenever I'm in town!

Family platter of various dishes and gluten free injera

Fantastic service and food! Many traditional options with portions that any family should appreciate.

I was super excited to try this place out for Black Restaurant Week, as I'd always heard that they had great food and my friends loved them when they were on state street. So, maybe I built up my expectations too high, or it was an off night for them, but I wasn't super impressed. Given this was more due to the service than the food, but still. We got there around 7:40 and the place didn't seem all too full, so we figured it would be a good place for a group of 5. Our waitress came and took drink orders and the beverages were back pretty quick. Then she took our food orders and we waited, and waited, and waited until finally about 40 minutes later we got the salads. Once we were finished, we waited about 15 minutes more to get our entrees. Now I dont know if this is normal or not, but it seemed like wayyy to long of time to wait for food. Also, my friend and I ordered a combo plate together of dorowot and vegetarian peanut stew, but what came out was definitely not the vegetarian peanut stew as there was chicken in it. Also, we weren't sure if it was the chicken peanut stew because it looked different than the other friend's dish who ordered that. We weren't going to send it back because we weren't sure how long it would take to get our food back at that point and we were also very hungry. The food tasted pretty good, but I would have liked to try what we actually ordered. One of our friends also ordered tostones as an appetizer, which was completely forgotten about. We got them after we were done with our meals. There was also a lack of checking in to see how the food was and if we needed anything, also checking back to give us our bill, until one gentleman, who may have been a manager, could clearly see we were a little frustrated and asked how we were and if he could get us our bill. It was 9:30 by the time we left! A lot longer dinner than I was planning that night. Overall, I'd say that the food was good, but seemed a little overpriced for the portion size. Also, if this is what service is normally like I would say order ahead unless you have time to spend here.

It comes with very cute star-shaped mango jelly and heart-shaped strawberry jelly. Reasonable prices, and the baristas are very quick at making drinks! The staff was friendly and welcomed me as soon as I walked through the door. The glass case containing artistic sweets was a welcome sight. I opted for strawberry and black forest cherry mouse cakes along with a few egg tarts. The goods were then packed in a giftable box. I didn't have a chance to try their milk teas or matcha drinks, but they certainly look tasty. Prices for their gorgeous sweets are steep, so be prepared. Le C's teats would make a wonderful, unique gift. Most importantly, mom's sweet tooth was "extremely satisfied" with the goods :)

Got a strawberry pineapple fruit boba tea, garlic egg cheese toast and two soybean donuts. Egg toast remains the star of the show for me; buttery, thick garlic bread with a thick omelette, melty American cheese and a slightly sweet sauce. I'm used to egg toast being a little sweet from my experience with them in Asia, so I didn't mind that at all. Soybean mochi donuts were solid. Strawberry pineapple fruit boba tea was refreshing but didn't wow me. This is the second time I've gotten a fruit tea from here & the fruit always tastes like it been sitting, aka not fresh. Could be much better. Service was limited and fine. I'll be back for an egg toast & donuts. I'll probably pass on the tea next time.

Their vibrant interior is coupled with some pretty nice drinks - I actually quite liked the osmanthus oolong. The mochi donuts were unfortunately a bit lackluster - they were served room temp (some places serve these slightly warmed), but they also lacked that characteristic chew of a good, fresh mochi donut. Overall, not a bad place for tea, but maybe there's a different snack that would strike my fancy.
