I took my son to see Paul at Bulwark Barber for a young mans cut. My son has always had a little anxiety around getting his hair cut. This time was no different. When we got there I told Paul he could take the wheel and I trusted his expertise to pick a style that fit my son. And boy did he do amazing! My son and me were both extremely happy with his new cut. And I'd like to add that I feel that they are fairly priced and it's a cool spot downtown CDA. Despite my son normally having anxiety while getting his haircut, we left Bulwark Barber with a smile on his face :) As we were walking out the door my son said, "Mom, we need to leave Paul a good review!" And then later in the evening he told me that he was happy we found someone to cut his hair that made him feel comfortable. Was a little nervous going in. Saw some reviews about bad customer service and this is on top of the fact I haven't let anyone mess with my beard in 18+ months. Wife had had enough and said to go get it cleaned up. Made the appointment online (easy and flawless) with the 'first available' and showed up a little apprehensive. Met Tyler and explained what I wanted and he said 'no problem' asked if I'd ever been in and when I said no, his response was 'welcome home' and got to work. Did an awesome job and was great to joke around win. The whole shop has a retro vibe that's really cool and the guys all go back and forth with jabs at each other keeping it light. Went online and scheduled a full service with Casey. Came into my appointment after work, briefly went over how I want my hair and got sat down straight into the haircut. I wasn't sure when the full service was supposed to start but it never did, which is a huge reason why I came here to get the barbershop experience. No water or nothing just right into the haircut. I guess I didn't quite communicate correctly how I wanted my haircut which is fine but I did say only a half inch cut off on the front and I ended up getting much more than a half inch off the front. It's an okay haircut. Didn't seem to give too much of a s**t about it afterwards when I clearly didn't like it and made it known. Well whatever hair grows back, I just won't be back. read more

Paul did a great job on my sons' hair. I've been looking for a barber who can cut wavy hair well and I've finally found him! Paul was friendly, punctual, professional and communicative (answering texts quickly and clearly). Bulwark barbershop is clean, welcoming and quiet. No loud, offensive music, no inappropriate movie for the kids. I believe there's no TV there actually. I'd give 5 starts if the price was $18-20 per child instead of $25. read more

Tried the place out, first impression was a bunch of young thugs thinking they are top of the line from LA. Sorry kids your shop and actual work was mediocre at best. Too many of these thugs scrolling phones. My ear hair and neck hair were piss poor after cut. Beard wasn't straight but angled wrong. One side of my headbwas 1/4" longer then opposing side. I'm like wtf, this little town thinks it's big time when in fact it's clearly not. Oh and they want big tips though. I won't be back, seriously it's not that great. Being from LA, I should've known little potato head CDA is just that, mushy and bland. I recommend all barbers go to LA for relearning! Attitudes also were piss poor imo. Meh. read more

Terrible first impression! The website said they take walk-ins, so went on in and didn't even get acknowledged when I went in. Figured, OK, they're busy, so took a seat. One of the barbers got done, then kicked back in his chair with a phone, and still no acknowledgement I was even there. Ended up walking out. They are conveniently located for me, so made an appointment. Better service that time, but the cut was just meh. Def not worth the money or effort. Will not waste my time going back. read more

Paul came highly recommended by a good friend, so when my husband was in DESPERATE need of a haircut and a good shave, Paul immediately came to mind (think Kramer from Seinfeld with thinning hair). Knowing Paul is a busy barber with some very prestigious clientele, I wasn't sure how long it would take to get an appointment. Following a text exchange and sharing a photo of some wild and crazy hair, Paul was compelled to rise to the occasion and worked him in on the same day (don't expect this, we were just very lucky and I think Paul clearly saw the need). The outcome? Absolutely incredible! My husband has never had such an amazing haircut. Paul was able to do things with his hair I didn't think were possible; the guy is an artist! It was definitely not your average men's haircut. The cut was stylish with clean lines and a classic look that was a perfect choice for my husband's age and overall appearance. The shave even took it all to a whole new level. I can't stop staring at his hair and smiling. He's happy with his new barber, so hopefully he won't have any trouble getting in for a style and shave in the future. Matt started cutting my hair a few years ago, and he was the only barber, man was he busy. Then Dylan came along and lightened the load, but they only got busier. Now there is a third barber Paul I beleive? Haven't been there since Paul started, I've gotten busy and haven't had a chance to get down there. But the guys, although with only a combined experience of about 10 years between the three of them, do an amazing job. I've never left feeling dissatisfied in the 3+ years of going there. I can't go anywhere else to get my hair cut because they know exactly how it needs to be cut, and not just go "by the book". Matt is a great guy, who cuts so well, Dylan knows what's up. He can do old school and new school cuts. Paul? Not sure yet, although my dad Frank raves about him. *MY ONLY BEEF* Up until now you guys don't do appointments. I haven't been to the shop in a while since June because I've been busy with life, so not sure if that has changed. I hope it has! Been to this place a couple times. Its just ok IMO. Guys are pretty cool but a little stuck up like. Kinda strange. Prices are good. Loud heavy metal music most of the time gets annoying. They dont get neck shave done very well. It looks good at shop but when i get home in more light, hairs all over stick up and missed. So, meh. Will try other shops. read more

Not only is he a Reuzel educator, he's an amazing barber who makes you feel comfortable. He's quick and even does a fantastic job with our kiddos!
