Bullet Hole, first and foremost, is a cheap option to get some shooting in. You can get as low as a half-hour of range time. For an expensive hobby that's a big plus. Their hours are convenient for dropping in after work, its right off Route 21, and while it can get crowded during weekends that's the norm with any range. Due to the no-nonesense attitude of the range masters and the fact they do not rent firearms and are frequented by security guards and LEOs, shooters have a higher proficiency level making it feel safer than a rental range. The store has a knowledgeable staff and is family owned. New firearms can be a little expensive, but you can find good deals on used ones. They have helped me out on a few occasions where I was out of my depth on difficulties with a firearm and don't want to risk damaging my firearms or myself. They even let me pop onto the range for free to test a firearm after a repair. read more

Pros: It is one of the few, if not only, ranges in North jersey. The place is actually much better than the, now closed, Hoboken Range. The lighting, ports and ventilation are pretty good here. Hoboken was like shooting in a dungeon........although the Hoboken staff was awesome. Cons: the store area is small and can be chaotic. As others have stated, the customer service is usually subpar. The storefront people and RSOs are both nice. Even though it's a kind of cramped, the range prices are pretty good for what you get, especially since you can also go in with multiple people for no extra cost (I don't know the max number of people you can bring in though). The ammo prices are pretty good as well, but the gun prices leave a bit more to be desired, which makes this place more range oriented than gun purchase oriented. I don't know how much transfers cost from here, and I will update when I figure out. There's not much to complain about, other than the fact that the range is only ~23 yards and that parking is pretty atrocious (there's a dirt side street near the store to park on, which gets muddy on rainy days). All else equal, this range, for better or for worse, is as good as it gets in north Jersey. TL;DR Good range prices, meh gun prices, good ammo prices, bad parking. 8.75/10 would recommend! read more

Pros: Cheap ports, ammo and targets, no rentals offered (yes, that's a pro for me, I'll explain why below), nice selection of firearms and accessories to purchase. Cons: The place is small and claustrophobic, can get overcrowded, target retrieval system a bit outdated, as is the ventilation system. Look, the Bullet Hole might not be pretty to look at, but it's practical, gets the job done and conveniently located close to where I live. I also don't get why all the negative comments about the staff, the staff is knowledgeable and have a no-nonse positive attitude. If you want a more charismatic staff, I suggest you go elsewhere, try eating a burger at you nearest Johnny Rockets or strike a conversation with one of those "geniuses" at the Apple store. This range does not rent firearms, and that's a good thing. This means less clueless noobs overcrowding the already small place. Bottom line: If you're a local gun owner that doesn't care about all the bells and whistles and just wants to shoot some cheap lead down range in a low key range, this place is perfect. If you don't own a firearm (which everyone should if you ask me) and just want to shoot a gun to check it off your to-do list or try it out with your friends, go to Gun For Hire instead. I don't know if I would come back to the bullet hole ever again. I have shot there a handful of times, it's alright. There target system is pretty nice, and that's the nicest part. I have a problem when I patronize an establishment and they talk down to you. Its not really good for business and you can tell these folks don't care. From snippy comments the range offices make since there so full of remarks, until you actually need help with something then they have no clue what to do and just stare at you like a deer in headlight. To the egregious amount of time it takes to get something repaired. They had my nickel plated pistol for around 14-16 month when I had a slide lock sheer off. I called every month and they keep saying oh, we ordered the part it will come in soon call back next month. To finally offering to fix it with a black slide lock which was just unacceptable. To the high price they charged me once I had gotten it back. I would never get work done by their gunsmith again, I doubt I would come by to get some shooting time there as well. There were other people there and he was only watching me. He wasn't even watching my friend when it was his turn. As if I was going to commit a crime or shoot myself. Kept telling me what to do. This is my "local" range so I'm there fairly often. The staff here may not be as friendly as some people would like, but they are helpful and knowledgeable. I've purchased several guns here and have always felt I got a fair deal. Their used gun selection is pretty good as is their new gun selection. As far as gunsmith work is concerned, I've only had one thing done (replacing factory sights with Night Sights). I was told it would take "a couple" weeks due to existing work and the work was done in just over 2 weeks. This was a few years ago so I can't comment on current turnaround time for gunsmith work. The Range officers are all very professional. One or two of them can be very rigid and intimidating at a distance, but I have never been denied assistance and/or advice when I needed it and asked politely. Most of them are generally good guys who are just concerned with everyone's safety in an inherently chaotic environment. I've taken my 14yo niece shooting with me here and the officers were very helpful in making a new, young, female shooter feel a little less out-of-place. The sales staff are also very helpful, and almost always very busy as this is one of the few places in this area that offer both sales and shooting under the same roof. read more

I had my first range experience here and I have to say it was pleasant. The place is small and the lines are long but the Range master was helpful and very nice. We had no issues with the lighting or the ventilation system as it was more than adequate. I had a great time here. Definitely remember a good amount of stuff but want to brush up on all aspects so I asked about beginner courses etc. the guy I spoke to acted as if I was bothering him. There is not really a parking lot but rather and area of questionable parking nearby. You can shoot pretty much anything you want. If i were you shoot a quick call ahead and check how many people are there. They do have 9 or 10 bays so it does go by pretty quickly. Bring a gun and bring ammo. Shoot some paper. As everyone says, don't expect much. Come to blow off steam, or given use to that gun you barely take out, and the staff will certainly be in "no non-sense" mode always. Been coming here since I was a kid and nothing has changed. Maybe the trainers are nicer, but I've never trained with them. I just see the same old people in charge and doing work. I only come here for myself. I wouldn't make this a "date" with family or partner. Prices for guns are overpriced, but what gun store isn't? Had my first visit there the other evening I popped in and waited on line near the counters one salesman was helping someone while the other was on the phone neither took the time to tell me and the other ppl waiting they will be right with us. I ordered some rounds, targets, paid for a hour and went inside 5 minutes later I noticed the salesmen came in wrote my time on the chart and have me a few minutes extra to unpack my stuff and not cut into my shooting time which wS a huge plus! I like that they require protective gear at all times! The shooting room and the booths are extremely small very very small! And they do not allow weapons outside the booth so if you have more then 2 large weapons you are extremely cluttered. However they did allow me to place empty cases, locks, and backpack behind me near and on the counter. It was pretty empty and I got to shoot without interruption. The range eye spent his time watching one person he seem to know and they made small talk and I got to shoot unbothered. I came to this location after reading many reviews on how unfriendly the staff is and how cheap the ammo is and how small the range is and yes everything I read is true so why the 4 stars? Because it's a no bs range for a avid shooter looking to put some target time in nothing more nothing less. If you are looking for a location to mess around with friends and take pictures and videos and get help from the staff do not go here!. I like the place and I will return again and again all winter till I return to my usual out door range in the spring. They could easily be a 5 star range if they update the facility n train staff to be friendly at least wear a warm smile. read more

They had the firearm I was looking for so I stopped in and made my purchase and was on my way. The following week I received a the call to pick up. There are a lot of complaints about bullet Hole and I'll tell you what it's a gun range weapons can hurt/kill you the staff is on point check your feelings at the door because your a gun owner and we all know the importance of firearm safety so I'm ok with a little attitude when it comes to my safety. Ben is one of the most respectable people I've meet there and I've done about four transfers with him(bullet hole) and each time he's been nothing but professional and when I use the range the older gentleman in the back(wish I knew his name) without me asking gave me tips on making my shots better. So I don't understand where all the negative is coming but I guess everyone has different experiences. it's an old-style pistol range so if you're looking for glitz, try RTSP, GFH or the Heritage in PA. But here, they'll pretty much let you shoot anything from a 22LR to a 7.62x39. I've seen someone shooting a humongous Magnum revolver once. You can also share ports with a friend, so it's relatively cheap. The Bayonne PBA range charges $15 per person (but you can have your own port). The crew can be a little gruff if you're a newbie. Remember, guns are lethal weapons and if you make a stupid mistake someone can get badly hurt or killed. They're there for your safety and won't win any popularity contests. read more

Really enjoyed our time at Bullet Hole for the first time the other night. They're open to new comers and are super friendly and informative. Not sure about the price of renting any firearms since we brought our own, but we are willing to go back, so we shall see what they have to offer. Renting a station was very cheap per hour compared to other shooting ranges we've been to. Was busy with people coming in and out but never got too crowded, even with only 10 stations available. I have to give major props to the overseeing range officer I believe his name was Joe. He was super friendly and gave light advice without seeming judge mental or overbearing with strictness or criticism. He did asked another man almost 3 times to not come out of his station with his gun before asking him to finally leave the premises. These are rules and guidelines that are followed and enforced at all shooting ranges so it was only right that this man was asked to leave for the safety of everyone including the friend that he even pointed his AR at!! In the end, we are looking forward to continue to come to Bullet Hole to practice our aim and try new firearms. read more

I visited bullet hole to make a purchase. I chose this place simply because of the proximity to work so I stopped by on my way home. Once I opened the door I felt I was in an unfinished basement. It is a crammed space with all the merchandise along the walls and stacked on top of each other in shoe-box sized boxes and crates. The shop had a few people in there. I wasn't greeted by anyone as I walked in. I didn't expect to be since the majority of guys in these gun stores are too manly to acknowledge anyone else. So I just looked around and found the wall with the mags, and started looking on my own. A few minutes later a guy behind me asked if I needed some help. He came and got what I was looking for, they were limited in options available. It's a pretty good spot to go shoot your fire arms. Very close to my house. Pretty cheap prices for shooting time. Ammo is pretty good price. Pretty much same price as any other spot. This place isn't in the best area and parking can be a pain. It gets very crowded unless you go in the first couple of hours of opening. I have had to wait for almost an hour on a few occasions. You can definitely expect to wait on a weekend afternoon. There is one grumpy old guy, but everyone else there is pretty cool. The space is small and unorganized. I'm not into the glamorous ranges though. There really is no need to go anywhere fancy. They let you shoot certain guns other places won't. Not really a nice place, but hey, beggars can't be choosers. It's a range and you can punch some paper, but it is small and dated. The staff in the store up front seem to cater to the "inner circle" only. My wife and I went there and we were treated like we were invisible. Then when we asked for help, we were obviously interrupting someone from there intense staring off into space session. The location is sketchy. I feel uneasy parking in the back alley and walking to the front. It's painfully obvious what I have in my bag, so I feel like a sitting duck for a robbery. Again... Well Up until recently I really liked the store; I even brought my first hand gun in the state of New Jersey from them but I felt a lack of customer service. it was my first time shooting at there range I had a free range time voucher that I was holding on for a rainy day I told my self hey one day I would come in with a few of my guns and shoot, so I decided to bring a very odd shotgun that I recently ordered online and just test fire it see if all the functions worked I planned to of shot maybe a few shots and leave. this was my first time ever shooting there and I was not sure what the protocol was and how the free range time worked they told me that the targets were not included and you would need to buy them which I could understand nothing to serious i said hey let me just run to the car and grab my payment method; on my return from the car I was not allowed to shoot the shotgun at all with the free range time because it was for the gun I brought from them and apparently couldn't use it for any other gun I just wish that was addressed to me I feel as if they thought I was trying to get one over on them and felt a bit of attitude from some of the employees and to be honest this hasn't been the last time that has happened I'm not saying that there wrong but that should have been told to me it really had me very upset to the point I won't be returning and will bring my business elsewhere read more

Last couple times here, I have been served with complete unprofessionalism and bad attitude. The range instructors don't have any respect and are rude. One port broke down twice while I was there for only 30 minutes of range time. I was outside my port and the instructor told me I was still too close to the port. Im okay with this, but with their stockpile of clutter, there's barely any room to begin with. These range safety officers must have ego/control issues. The instructors also belittled me when I threw a paper target in the trash. I was told that there were separate ones for paper targets and others for true trash. Sure enough, there WAS a small piece of paper written in marker stating to not throw away paper. With so much garbage in eye view (everywhere) I'm truly sorry for not noticing this sign for garbage. The people at the front counter are great but the old man who watches over the range need to improve his people skills. First you in the range with ear plugs on, can't hear a word this old man tells you when in walk-in.
