This is a cute shop with an enormous selection of touristy Knick knacks, toys, candy (especially retro candy). Fun! I'll echo some comments on the cashier (owner, I think, if not owner take heed). I happened to be standing behind a local with whom she was having a nice conversation, I waited patiently for them to finish, they were having a discussion on facial care products. It was sweet and the cashier was very responsive and friendly. After a fairly long wait, I greeted the cashier. The reception was cold, unwelcome, almost to the point that I wanted to put the items back, but had expectant grandchildren behind me. I love this place in southport. One of the many shops down the strip. It's really unique with many different toys for all ages. Hard to keep myself from running through the store much less the kids lol. They also have a really big candy area. All the individual candies that I got when I was a kid. This place is LOUD. It's crowded. The aisle is so narrow that you can barely get one person through, much less pass anyone. It's overpriced but I'm actually ok with that since I'm sure the cost of the building is high. However they have speakers playing two different songs while having half a dozen televisions blasting at full volume within a 20 foot radius of each other. It's overwhelming, especially for little kids. If you are desperate for a $30 souvenir of cheap Chinese plastic then by all means go in. Maybe bring earplugs. read more

I've been visiting for years, but each time my experience is worse. It was ok when I was a kid and didn't notice, but as an adult with a child, this business is frustrating and inconsiderate. The owner is frequently rude or standoffish. I feel like owning an 80% children-centered store should encourage you to evaluate how you want to be perceived by your audience. Today was the last straw. Prime Saturday in early tourist season and the owner is 15 minutes late to open the store. A co-worker was waiting patiently on the bench and mentioned the owner is late a lot. So I and several other people just sit and wait. People come around the corner and try to get in. "It will open soon." Her co-worker says while playing on her phone. It's just sad how laissez-faire the owner is about her business and it's clientele. You get the same inventory (cheaper) and better customer service online. read more

We didn't encounter any employee assistance, which was a bit odd, but not a big deal. The prices seem to be pretty high for the candy section. We were staying in Carolina Beach and decided to take the ferry across to Southport to explore for the day. The first place we stopped was Bull Frog Corner due to the fact we assumed our two young daughters would enjoy it...we were right. As soon as you walk in the door you are overwhelmed with toys and knick knacks in every direction...the floor, ceiling, walls, everywhere. They even have a huge selection of candy including some that I haven't seen in years such as gum cigarettes and Pop Rocks. I picked up some sour cream and onion flavored crickets to try--hey, you only live once! They boast that they have over 10,000 educational children book titles. There are plenty of books all around as well as educational DVD's and little endcaps with a few playing on LCD TV's. I saw everything from robotic bugs to very classy tea sets, to stuffed animals and astronomy gear. The biggest thing about this store is that it's more of an experience than just a kids toy store. There aren't aisles like you would find in a store at the mall, instead the store snakes displays around to the left and the right wrapping all the way around the store using every inch of space. I really wish I had taken a photo of this place because it is unbelievable. They even have a few things for adults such as locally crafted artwork and glass and picture frames for pictures of the kids. If you happen to be in Wilmington or Carolina Beach it is definitely worth the $5 ferry ride (for your car and everyone in it) to take a day trip over to Southport and if you have kids, I would stop here first. They'll love it, you'll love it, and the prices won't break the bank like you would expect in a small town specialty store. read more

When I asked her why she wasn't wearing a mask, she said they aren't good for your health and she knows she does not have the virus so there is no need for her to wear one! Pretty much your standard "beach tourist trap" store with a hint of small town charm with kicks it up just a notch. Primarily filled with things geared towards kids, although the majority of the items could be found elsewhere (eg children's books that you could easily get in Amazon for half the price and stuffed animals that look like they could have come from anywhere and weren't Southport-specific). They also had a few "beachy" items, some of which would probably be of interest to those looking to furnish and decorate a beach home, but most of the items, like the toys, felt like things I could probably find elsewhere for cheaper. The place was crowded and the large amount of items and narrow walkways made it challenging to navigate. Definitely wouldn't recommend going into this place on a busy day with a stroller or in a wheelchair. The ladies working were very sweet and gave our daughter a free lollipop when we checked out. A fine place to wander about if your in Southport, but don't go in with high hopes of finding something truly unique to go home with. read more

I will have to say that the driving factor behind my 3-star review is a video I watched of animals singing while walking through the store on our way out. Stood at the register for 10 minutes after already telling an employee that we were ready to check out. The owner was rude and told us we should have told her we were at the counter. It is not the customers job to tell you that you have customers waiting to check out. Store is over priced and employees are rude. We left the store with our basket at the register . They have all kinda of toys for all ages. This is a great place to find a gift, but be warned: if you bring your kids you won't leave empty handed. Toys are all over and easy accessible for kids, even crawling toddlers. It is very cramped on the inside, but it adds to its charm and appeal. We've been here a couple of times. There are tons of children's items including books, different size stuffed animals, and other odds and ends to choose from along with some home decor. Update your Facebook hours. Facebook said they were open until 6:00 on Saturday evening. My son and I walked in at 5:30 and she said they were closed. I called Sunday morning before we went to make sure their hours were correct this time. We went and my son picked out a dart board. At the register the owner made several comments like "oh that's cheap" "that's too cheap" "my girls must have priced that wrong." So sad and disappointed. As a local, I have been faithful and at times spent more than I had to just support a local business. I called in desperation today to find a specific specialty item that was lost/destroyed and causing distress to my child. I HAD to have a replacement and I had to have it tonight. I called at 4:00 PM to see if they even had the item. They did. Then I confirmed their hours..."open until six today and every day". Okay. I asked my boss to leave work early. I arrived at 5:45 PM to find a locked door.WOW. JUST WOW. After I called and even told them the story and how I need this tonight for my child. They knew I was coming. Not that they cared. My kids adore this place. We visit every other year when we visit Oak Island. It has a huge selection of neat toys and gadgets. We were walking around Southport and decided to stop in here. As soon as you walk in the door you are overwhelmed with toys and little knick knacks and little goodies for a all ages. They had stuffed animals and cool little toys that you can't get anywhere else! The only downsides are that it was very crowded and hard to walk and the music was quite loud and kind of annoying. Great toy store for kids, but kids were not seem welcome in the store. It has taken me over a week to write this review. Wanted to calm down, but it still bothers me. Had my grandchildren in the store to buy their Easter gifts. Had six kids and 4 adults. Toys all over the place (on floor, on shelves, hanging from ceiling). The comments from the emploee behind the counter were mean and sarcastic. The kids were not damaging nor pulling toys off shelves, they were looking and touching the toys. There were other children in the shop also but they were also just being kids. My one daughter put back the item she was going to buy after hearing the employee's sarcastic mumblings. I did not put back my items as I was not going disappoint my grandkids. However, I was so tempted. I spent quite a bit in that store BUT will never return and will never recommend this store. read more

I've read most of the 'comments' from other shoppers and I agree, it IS crowded, but, with the most wonderful things you can imagine, things I've never seen anywhere else and I have bought wonderful memories there over the years. It's like a fairy land of visual delights as you walk the narrow paths through the large store, and no, I wouldn't want to go there with a stroller or wheelchair, either, not even a big purse, but if you want wondrous ideas for gifts and hard to find items, then indulge your senses and go there, it's amazing. The owner of the store is very rude. I went to buy some candy and when I got to the counter, the owner harassed me. She told me that I could not read and that I had to have a bag to put my candy in. She then turned to her co-worker and went on to say that a five-year-old could've read the sign. After eating the candy it was stale. It was also higher-priced than the store right across the street where the people are much nicer. After reading other reviews on yahoo, it sounds like the owner talked to me like she does cancer patients. Don't shop here! read more
