If you like finding one-of-a-kind furniture or decorative pieces, statement pieces or antiques…read morewhich might have some interesting story attached to it, then you owe yourself a visit to Shivam Imports. Located in the ground floor of a warehouse straddling the very top of De l'Eglise Avenue, St. Patrick, the Lachine Canal and underneath the highway, I would never have even guessed or known about this place if it wasn't for the fact that my brother recently bought a beautiful, hand-carved wooden table here from Rajasthan, India - the kind you see in decorative magazines, high end lofts and spas or super posh furniture stores only you're too scared to look at the prices there. Here, you can look at them all you want and you'll be floored at the bargains you'll find, no joke. Shivam Imports is normally a wholesaler but they do sell to individuals and the prices are more than reasonable for the sorts of pieces in their showroom, but you need to make an appointment to visit their showroom (at the moment). So despite the appointments and out-of the way location, it is well worth your while to stop in and have a good look. You won't regret it. First off, this ain't no IKEA. You'll find hand-carved teak tables, antique mirrors, crazy pillars which look like the belong in a palace of some Maharajah, antique finished cabinets, candle-holders, unique pieces like wooden headboards. Stuff no one you know will ever have because everything here is so individual and unique. If you're like me and don't like generic anything, love old-fashioned quality then you'll just love it here. Andrew the owner is a really chill, easy-going guy and often buys pieces directly in India and makes trips several times a year there. If you're thinking of re-decorating, need some ideas or inspiration or looking for that one unique mirror to place in your room or a conversation-piece coffee table, look no further.

This place makes me dream of having friends over again whenever covid restrictions have lifted!…read more The base pricing here for regular sized items is ok. Some of it is cheaper than grocery stores and others are more expensive. However, some are definitely a great price if you buy 3 or more. Example, the 510g of McCain Deep'n Delicious sell for $4.99 when on sale at the grocery store and typically is $5.30ish regular price. Here, you're getting them for only $4.97 each and that drops to $4.47 if you buy 3 or more. Also if you want to buy a year's supply of flour, no need to pay overpriced for the 2.5kg bags at $4.99 from the grocery store! Here, you can secure a 20kg bag of Robin Hood flour for only $14.99. Major cost savings. You'll never buy pre-made bread ever again! If my math is correct, this would be equivalent to getting the 2.5kg bags for only $1.75. A customer walked in an asked for a pallette of 40 x 20kg bags of flour. I guess they know a good price when they see it too! Although they're President's Choice, they didn't ask for my PC points card. Looks like it might not apply here. They have tons of takeout containers and boxes too. Great for food a fundraiser. Hopefully, covid dies down soon and I can come back and buy 3+ portions to take advantage of the bulk pricing and invite guests over!

I picked up some fresh produce and a baguette from a store which claimed to have Montreal's #1 baguette. I always love coming to the market. There's so much to see and shop for. I'd recommend coming hungry because there are some stalls in the centre serving full meals. Next time I'll have to go to the flower shop!

There's an enclosed indoor section that's open year-round and an outdoors open air section that's open during warmer weather. The Long Version: Atwater Market is a fun market to go to. It's along the Lachine Canal. There's an indoor section that's permanent and open year-round. It houses mostly butchers (selling very expensive meats, lol), cheese mongers, fish mongers and bakeries and other shops selling artisan foods. The outdoor section is seasonal and in the summer it's mostly fruits, vegetables and plants. There's also an open-air food court called Pôle de Saveurs which is open May -October. We ate at Le Petit Sao in the food court and it was excellent. The food court does get a bit crowded though (we went on a Tuesday around lunchtime and it was packed). The outdoor seating is communal picnic tables. If you're a bit antisocial like us, fear not, they have several small round tables for 2 inside the indoors section of the market and most were unoccupied. We snagged a table and had a quiet and comfortable lunch. There's parking on-site. The first 15 minutes is free if you are just grabbing something quick. Otherwise it's $2.25 an hour (rounded up to the hour). It's right by the Lionel-Groux Metro station, so very accessible via public transit. Review #148 (2025)
