TLDR: We hired them to completely remodel our bathroom, redo the basement stairs, and they did a few other small things along the way. Rouben and his team were phenomenal. If you want quality work, excellent communication, and ease of mind, hire Build Pros. We originally wanted to have our microwave vented out (rather than circulating air and grease in the kitchen) and add a second banister to the stairs to the basement to make them more safe for our growing toddler. We were also considering having our spare basement bathroom remodeled. The bathroom really wasn't very functional because it was built in pieces (so the gross tiny stall shower wasn't even in the bathroom). That was a big job, and we wanted to get a quote for all three pieces. The first two jobs were too small on their own, so we hired Build Pros for all three. They were amazing to work with, and the work they did was the highest of quality. The team was extremely communicative, and we always knew when they were coming, what they were doing next, and what to expect. Their spreadsheet system made it really easy for everyone to keep track of what we had selected, costs, etc. They helped us a ton with design decisions, made recommendations when appropriate, and made sure we were happy with absolutely everything before moving forward. Our house stayed unbelievably clean, given the level of work they were doing, throughout the process. Mike and Rouben were fantastic at reimagining the layout of our bathroom, taking all of our priorities into consideration. John, their carpenter, is a master. We went way over budget, but a lot of that was my fault. I wanted a bathroom that was functional, but the more we talked and designed, the more I realized we actually could get a really *nice* bathroom that wasn't just functional, but high end. They did a bunch of other random things in the area too. We just were so happy with their work, and they were already there, so we asked them to fit in a few small things and they were awesome in getting those done too (adding a couple outlets in the adjacent home gym, replacing our outdoor water spigots, etc.). We are extremely happy with the final products. We even had a water problem shortly after they finished. They fixed it swiftly with no charge. It might have been a part issue or a labor issue, and so in the beginning it was unclear whether we were going to have to pay for repairs right away. I would have been very disappointed if they had charged us, and have all the more confidence in them since they fixed it and stood by the work and warranty. The only real negative was that sometimes when we had to make a decision, and the team gave us a quick "off the cuff" estimate about how much a few different options would cost, the estimate was really a fair amount lower than estimated. That contributed to some of our cost increase, but in the end I think we would have made the same decisions regardless. We're extremely happy with the final products. We even hired them again and they're starting work at my mother-in-laws house this week! I'm already dreaming of putting an addition on our house in the future, and we will hire them absolutely if/when we do this. read more

Rouben and his team at buildPros renovated the 2nd floor of my 1860 farm house in Wakefield, RI. It was very challenging because the floors were very uneven. There was some ugly carpeting and old sheet linoleum. He completely redid one bathroom, partially renovated a 2nd bathroom, refinished some beautiful wide-plank pine underneath the carpet and put in luxury vinyl planking over one part of the floor that was too destroyed to be finished. The price was good (tied for lowest among 3 bids), Rouben's communication was fantastic, and the project came out great. Honestly, I feel like a king in my new bathroom. After approximately a year in my condo I decided to finally renovate my bathroom. This is a condo I currently live in but will soon lease out once a single family home is bought. After several consultations I decided on using buildPROS. Pros: - the owner Ruben is definitely trustworthy. After having someone who I hold in high regards speak highly of Ruben I decided that was good to me. He definitely seems like honest fellow - detailed scope of work and will provide updates for unexpected changes - took great efforts to work efficiently while ensuring dust was not exposed to other parts of home - Bathroom came out beautiful Cons: - PAINT. I am unsure who is used for painting but definitely not impressed. From missed parts to dried drip spots to even some dirty areas the paint was way less than stellar. I not only did touch ups but actually had to buy additional paint. Color was nice though! - Hallway floor transition to bathroom floor. While I was warned the marble block may become damaged during renovation, I also had something dropped on laminate wood floor threshold. Crack is very noticeable. Overall happy with job and since it's only small bathroom cons not big deal. Future big projects will definitely keep them in mind but will also probably continue looking around as well. read more

We hired buildPROS for our small kitchen renovation. We have been debating whether to write this review, until this past weekend's deep freeze. Our kitchen water pipes were frozen by the past weekend's deep freeze. After we pulled out the dishwasher to gain access to the pipes, we found a 6" x 8" hole in the drywall that sits directly between the pipes and the exterior wall of our home (see photo). This hole was opened by buildPROS' crew for rerouting water source for the new kitchen sink location, and the hole was never patched up, providing direct access of frigid air from the exterior wall to the pipes. Is this ethical behavior? We will leave that up to the readers to decide. Rouben Balagian from buildPROS was recommended by our realtor, Mark Leeman (Rhodelife;Remax, RI). We are inexperience with the renovation process, and thought we could trust our realtor. It is understood by all parties that the remodeling project of our small-sized kitchen had a limited budget. We did not request many of the items in a full kitchen renovation (new flooring, paint, appliances, island), and we purchased many of the items ourselves. But is that valid a reason for a general contractor to justify breaking his promise in providing quality work? Here is the laundry list of our problems: 1. Rouben was always late to meetings, and did not provide needed attention a general contractor should provide during critical times. His lack of attention was part of the reason why we encountered so much trouble trying to resolve issues from the first granite installation by The Granite Shop (Everett, MA - see Yelp review for details), error in the rough plumbing for our deep sink, and other issues. 2. The project ran significant over time. Despite not being entirely Rouben's fault, he did allow his granite subcontractor to stall our project for 7 weeks that ended without a resolution. Towards the end, Rouben gave us a 1 week time line towards the finish that turned into a total of 5 weeks. 3. The mediocre quality of the work. We now have tails of two 2" nails coming out at the opening of an upper cabinet (see photo), one of which cut my arm. The tile grout was poorly done, and some has already started to come off. There are visible scratches to our new white cabinets and molding. 4. Despite understanding our small budget, Rouben still pressured us to pick a stove backsplash option that cost 8 times more than our solution. 5. His team made an unanticipated damage to a wall from relocating an electrical outlet, and have sent harsh emails to state that his company is not obligated to fix this problem. 6. The project went 16% over budget, and this amount does not include items we added after the initial contract. Rouben said that the final cost service was "way" below what it should have been. So does that mean Rouben never meant to stay on budget in the first place? 7. We were charged $500 for the kitchen design for a pencil sketch of the kitchen. The computerized layout was done by the cabinet company when we budgeted the cost. 8. For the final settling payment, he emailed out the final cost 15 minutes prior arriving our door to collect the payment. We barely had enough time to go through the Excel spreadsheet that included all the unanticipated costs added. The calculated closeout payment was $1200 over the actual amount we owed. We will leave the readers to speculate how this discrepancy occurred. Rouben spoke repeatedly of the integrity of his work, and said he went above and beyond to help us keep the project within the budget. He stated that we got a "deal" for the kitchen renovation. The scope of our small kitchen renovation was limited, which did NOT include new layout, flooring, island, paint, appliances. We also purchased a number of items ourselves. Considering that plus all the stress/problems we had to face and will continue to face in this brand new kitchen, we do not agree that we have gotten a deal, or the professionalism of a general contractor. We were so uncomfortable with the renovation from week 1 that we felt obligated to be on site to supervise at all times. The experience was awful to the extend that we wish we never went through with this renovation. read more

So, we went back to Rouben with a really boring house project. Our roof leak came back and we realized it was because the ceiling of our basement was not properly supported, the sill was rotting away, and the house was slowly sinking, causing the roof to shift. Ah, the joys of living in a 100 year old house. Once Rouben's crew came in, it took just a few days to add new support columns, properly ground them, fix the sills, etc. We would have rather spent the money on a new bathroom (of course), but now we feel very confidant that our house isn't going to slowly collapse. In three months, his guys put in a dormer (which required historical commission approval), completely remodeled a bathroom, raised our ceilings, refinished and stained 150 year old wood floors, fixed old electrical and framing issues, and added central AC/heat. Rouben helped us when we were at Wits End. We live in Oregon and had to have a family home in RI estimated and repaired after serious and unexpected flood and freezing damages. Rouben inspected and evaluated the damages, met with the insurance estimator and represented us throughout that trying process. As a result of his efforts and negotiations we received a fair compensation from the insurance company for the damages and future renovation. Rouben's detailed analysis of the situation and doggedness to get every last bit we deserved paid off.
