Builders Surplus - The kitchen counter and sink failed and we replaced it - Hardware Stores Near Me - Louisville, Kentucky

On Valentine's Day, my boyfriend brought me to a warehouse about 20 minutes away in a part of Louisville I really haven't ventured much into before. And it was kind of romantic. We're about to close on a new home and are in need of lots of renovation materials at deep discounts. So for Valentine's Day we shopped around and made plans for our new home together -- a bit of dreaming and a bit of reality. He had heard about Builders Surplus, and what we found was aisle after aisle of basic home items. We are focusing most of our attention on bathroom and kitchen re-dos. Builders Surplus had lots of stone and laminate countertops to look at -- most in the $30-per-square-foot range. (Countertops at other stores have been more in the $50 to $80 range.) Similarly, Builders Surplus had some great prices on tile. In particular, I found large square marble-looking tile that would be great for a bathroom floor for $1.29 square foot compared to much more at big box stores, which we ventured to after Builders Surplus, providing some great cost comparisons. Builders Surplus also had a large selection of bathroom and kitchen sinks and bases for bathroom sinks. Plus, many of the bathroom sink bases are made with unfinished wood, making it easy to paint the base to fit with the bathroom. We got to Builders Surplus about 20 minutes before closing, so we were rushed to see it all. I'm holding out my fifth star for when we go back and make some very fun purchases. read more

Waited 15 minutes just to process a return this sucks specially since they only have a 14 days return period. And stuff really isn't that much cheaper here. They have a lot of discounted stuff but it's you get what you pay for here. The hours are also very inconvenient for a DIY-Er someone who works days. They're hours are also wrong online so be aware of that. read more

So, I never write reviews because I think people just get upset about small stuff and just write bad reviews, but in this case I am so upset that I have to write this because I don't wont people to go through what I went through. First I do have to say that Chris and Mike did everything they could to make my situation right, but I have to point out the issue in this Sh*tshow!! Nicole Riggs the design girl needs more training in the worst way. Don't use her if you are doing any design work. When I walked in to do a kitchen design I told her that this is new for me, it's my first time doing this so help me make the right choices. Make sure we cover everything because I did not know what I was doing. If it was not for me having a good contractor this would have been a lot worse!! First... One of my cabinets was not sent in my order and no one told me so my contractor removed all the old cabinets thinking we had everything ...We didn't. OH WAIT they also said it would be 3 WEEKS before they could get that cabinet in... WTF!! They got it in but read below. You will see what happens. Second... One of the other cabinets was to big so when we called Nicole back about this she said she would get us one smaller which would have been ok but she sent one that was to small. I went from a 42 inch cabinet to a 27 inch with a 10 inch drawer and opening. She told me she would get me a 36 inch with 12 inch drawer which as you can read we never got. Being that we were so far behind I kept the 27 inch because I was over this whole thing. Third... With all that being said once we got into putting the kitchen together we find that there was more things missing which held everything else up which means it took my contractor over a month to get the kitchen done because of there (Her mistakes) Let's not forget I still don't have counter tops at this point. This project took so long that the counter guys called me trying figure out why I haven't called them. Forth... Nicole did not take the time to just do her job right. I ended up taking back the faucet and a few other things that if she would have taken her time and went over this stuff with me like a really good designer would have done I would not be writing this. And just so you all know because of the delays and the mess that Nicole caused my kitchen to this date is still not done because my contractor had to put me on the back burner because this messed up his time line. He had other jobs he has to get done. :-( Austin, Chris, Mike and the Guy (I can't remember his name) that brought my cabinet to me and Bev who is no longer there were great. They are good folks. And Nicole was nice just not a good designer. Other than the sh*t above its not a bad place I just wont be going back. If you do go there to buy. Don't leave until you are 100% sure you have EVERYTHING you need/want cause it is going to be hell if you don't. read more

lol-this place..... Whoever the owner is needs to start paying attention. Well, their selection is good. Got some great ideas for what I might do in our kitchen. But definitely buying elsewhere. Just managed to walk around for 20 minutes without one person offering to help. And believe me, there were plenty of workers, but they were too busy talking to each other. Oh, one person did say "hello" to me, but he was a warehouse worker not a salesperson. So come here, get some ideas, take lots of pictures, and then go somewhere else to spend your money and get customer service. Geez. read more

We are in the middle of renovating a building for residential, and we needed a brand new kitchen designed and I will tell you that Nicole who is a designer at builders surplus was awesome. We have about another three weeks before the kitchen is ready to install bit working up to this point with everybody at builders surplus has been awesome! read more

I'm not in the habit of writing bad reviews, but I'd be remiss if I didn't warn others about this subpar establishment. I'd done my homework and know what I'm looking for and the quality & prices at the big box stores. I borrowed a friend's truck and trailer and made the 40-minute trek to Builder's Supply--had a long list of things I needed and was prepared to buy. I was taken back at the prices on all items I was comparing--they were higher than prices at Lowe's and Home Depot!! By going to "Builder's Supply", I thought the whole point was to get competitive pricing on quality products. Wow were we ever disappointed! The quality was average but prices were ridiculously high. Finally found 1 item out of my whole list that I could justify buying: a 36" granite top bathroom sink. Most were $150-200 and higher, but there was one for $99. The corresponding round sink insert was $50. I eagerly went to the checkout and told the salesman I wanted this item in 36", along with the matching sink. He seemed perturbed that I was asking for something but proceeded to go searching for the item (a coworker gave him a tip on where to find it, stating they were impossible to find). He came back a few minutes later empty-handed and told me the only 36" they had features a squared edge--NOT the rounded edge on the display. I wasn't happy, as the rounded edge made the top much more attractive, but asked him to take me back so I could see it anyway. When I got to the back of the store and was able to see the squared edge in person, I hesitated as it didn't look nearly as nice as the rounded on display. I asked him if they'd be getting more of the rounded edge tops in and he didn't know. Asked if they could adjust the price since the squared top just didn't look as nice. He said he was "sure" they wouldn't. I pressed on, asking to speak with a manager or someone with authority. He called the manager who said he was "busy", though did agree to field the question. The clerk working with me presented it to him in such a way that portrayed me as being unreasonable and demanding. As suggested, the manager said no and didn't give it a second thought. I thought for a minute and decided I'd go ahead and purchase the top anyway. He pulled it out and then announced to me that it had a square cutout for a sink bowl (as opposed to the round sink cutout that was $50 and already in my cart). I asked about the square sink insert and he told me it was "about" the same price. I asked for clarification--he seemed put off by this--as it required checking the price. I was told it was "just" $20 more than the round sink insert (making it $70). I asked him if they could price match the round sink insert ($50). He looked at me as if I'd lost my mind and assured me there was no way they'd adjust the price. At that point I was really annoyed at the attitude of this guy and didn't want to give them my business anyway. I told him at $70 the deal was not worth my while and to forget it. Again, he looked at me as if I were crazy and couldn't believe what I was saying. He never apologized; in fact, was rude toward me for inconveniencing him!! I'll never go to this place again. Wouldn't have stepped foot inside the doors had I read the previous reviews. Matter of fact, I might have given too much credit to this bozo by thinking he was "just" a jerk. Another reviewer implied staff was condescending because she was female. I hadn't connected those dots, but it's very possible that in addition to being a jerk, there is a culture of female ignorance/inferiority in this business. Very sad! I'll be making a trip to my nearest Lowe's tomorrow. read more

We were beginning a bathroom renovation. We found ceramic floor tiles at Lowe's a few months ago but did not purchase since work was not yet scheduled. After demo was completed, we found out Lowe's no longer carried the tile we wanted. After a short hunt we found it at Builders Surplus...hooray!! Store associate was very helpful. Assured us that all unopened boxes of tile was returnable provided it was coded to be restocked. He checked and said yes, surplus tile could be returned after our project was complete. The contractors finished our bathroom one week ago. My husband gathered up the surplus tile and took it back to Builders Supply who refused to give a refund due to a 14 day return policy that is not printed on receipt and not relayed by associate or cashier. Boooo!!! The manager was unconcerned and my husband was steamed. No more Builders Supply for us. read more

Update after the counter top was attempted to be installed . The installers from Builder Surplus were totally inept . Trash the house, left the job with the water turned off, the sink , disposal,faucet disconnected. Chips and nicks on my $2600 counter top. Their customer service is lousy and the subs contractor they use are inferior . Please do not be blinded by the price, if you buy from them do not use their the installers. read more

DO NOT use this company for any work, especially their sub contractor Dustin. We ordered & unfortunately paid CASH for new windows for our house only to find we were duped into getting low (really NO) customer service, shoddy installation by a sub contractor where the window sills shows rust in 2 months due to using the wrong products to install the sills, taking almost 4 months to have 13 windows installed correctly & to get screens for those windows that weren't warped & fit. blatant disregard for full payment up front & for quality service! read more
