Our project consisted of pouring 2 concrete slabs (1 along the side of the house and a second in the backyard), planting a boarder trim, and installing sprinkler systems in our back and front yard. His attention to detail in recommending ideal drain setups in the sections where water had pooled in the past are exactly why we went Joel - we want to do things right the first time. For years, our outside drains were clogged, and I found myself setting up pumps during the storms to get the pools of water away from our home. Every year, I would tell myself that I would get the drains cleared. Before the rains came this past winter, I hired a company to hydro jet the pipes. They tried to clear the drains, but because they were so clogged, their equipment failed. Again, I was setting up the pumps during the rain storm. So, I researched and found Joel and Sons. I met Joel and he examined our front/back yards. He gave an excellent and fair estimate that would fix the drainage problems. The responses to my questions were fast, and I asked A LOT of questions. All my questions felt welcomed by Shay and I am so thankful to him. Quality was superb. I asked Shay for help with adding a wall to my garage, change area of laundry air vent, demo carpet on stairs and on second floor , change subflooring on second floor, install laminate flooring where carpet was, new walk in shower, and upgrade our stairs to have risers. The finished job looked beautiful and well built. There were minor details that I wanted fixed and Shay had it fixed next day. It was amazing. As for the cost, it was comparable to other competitors. We saw Shay and his team had proof of work. Shay took us to one of his other renovation projects and that house was beautiful. Even after the job is done, Shay does not ghost you. At first we tried to do it ourselves by finding family recommended architect to draw prints for us for submission and whatever else the city wants. Then we tried to find contracts and they either stuck up their noses at us or didn't even bother showing up at the appointment. Finding a trustworthy contractor is hard. So I looked up Yelp and found Mr. Parrague and initially contacted one of the reviewer, Henry, because he offered to shed more light on his experience. He was so kind and highly recommened Parrague Construction. And I'm living in another country and my Mom's English isn't fluent enough to handle this kind of matter. So I called Mr. Parrague and he made me feel safe. He is a one stop shop because I wasn't sure if the city was going to ask to redo the blueprints or not. He was very professional, on-time, and does not push for extra things just to make more money, in fact it's the opposite. He is tough, which you need to be when dealing with the city, and very experienced. He will go out of his way to help you. His crew is clean and his assistant is also kind and very communicative, but Mr. Parrague usually is your main point of contact. He likes to handle the calls himself. Once my mom called around 5pm saying they installed the garage door wrong (they did not) and I thought she got locked out of the house. I had to call Mr. Parrague from outside the country (Skype) and he said he will go straight to my house after his meeting which was an hour away from my house bc they had my spare key. I told my mom and realized she wasn't locked out. So whether it was installed correctly or not, it was NOT an emergency. I quickly messaged Mr. Parrague because it can be dealt the next day. I didn't want him to get in an accident trekking across LA. He understood and STILL showed up! This is now probably 7pm. They figured out that it was my Mom who didn't understand how the new garage door worked....So I am so thankful for them for their work and for dealing with the City and get me approved and case closed. I am a fan. XD
