This is an amazing place. My kid loves to come and get a puffy friends. We knew this brand because my friend in Chicago. We got our first friend there. And we found a store in Scarborough Town Center before. But they closed out at end of July. Then moved to Markville Mall in late August. We visited this location on my daughter's birthday. We recorded our voice in a recorder and put inside the bear's hand. Because we didn't planned to record ahead, so we took some time to think of it and recorded multiple times. The staff was nice and patient. We seemed to had a good experience. Then we came 2nd time for our friend's wedding gift. I had 2 different coupons for discounts. We got 2 sets of bears: groom and bride. I told them to put in the system with separate bills, in order to use both, but they said the system would use both my coupons automatically. When I double checked the bill, it was only deducted 1 coupon, and in their system, somehow, they closed my 2nd coupon. And they said the bill couldn't be re-generated. At the end, they gave us $10 gift card, same value as my closed coupon. It was not really good experience, but the cotton instead can be replaced and the recording button can be replaced or be changed batteries by paying extra bucks. 4.5, rounding up to 5. So my daughter asked for a Build A Bear for her name day this year and I wanted to get one so that we could have the shared experience and souvenir. She has previous ones and explained that it's a pretty simple process, no appointment required. They do offer birthday party packages and for that I expect booking to be required. They also have online sales so that you can order that way, although I'm not sure if that means you bring the components in for assembly, or receive it assembled, or get a choice. For us, it was definitely about the build experience and our visit did not disappoint. I knew to expect a lineup between it being a Saturday in December and general covid chaos. We waited about 20 minutes or so while 4 or 5 parties were ahead of us. The staff managed the line and store quite well, allowing some priority based on matching the number of exiting groups to the next group of the same number in line. The entrance has a "roped" barrier and once we were inside, we were able to peruse the stock character shells, which are in the first section of the store. It was also nice and helpful that the large, front window displays had all of them with various costumes and accessories, so it didn't take long to narrow down our choices and make a final decision on which stuffy we wanted. They had Pokemon, Animal Crossing, and other licensed toy shells, as well as generic bears, bunnies, and other critters. The licensed toys were up to $50 just for the basic toy, which I find a bit rich but they did have a promotion on where a few select toys could be purchased as BOGO half price. This didn't apply to the pair we picked but I didn't expect it to anyway. Once we picked our toys, we moved to the next section, where we could choose a sound box to add. The selection of sounds was very impressive and we had a good laugh contemplating the Darth Vader and Empire Theme to add. Notwithstanding the additional $8 or so it would cost, we decided to forgo that option. You can also add a heartbeat sound box for about $6. We then lined up for the actual stuffing process. The machine looks a bit like a cross between a cotton candy machine and one of those arcade games where you have the plexi glass box filled with prizes, where the stuffing gets churned and blown through a pipe and into your toy. The staff was very professional and friendly, taking the time she needed to do a good job. She explained 3 options for how densely you can stuff your toy, and asks if you want to perform the ceremony to bring your toy to life with the little plush hearts you add inside it before she finished the seam. You take the heart in your palm and she chants the ceremony song, and once that's complete, she makes sure it's a satisfactory density before tying up 100%. The last part is browsing the selection of clothing and accessories you can buy to dress your new fuzzy friend. It can easily cost more than the toy itself depending on the pieces you choose, especially if you opt for licensed gear like Harry Potter or Animal Crossing items. You should budget at least $50 dollars between a toy and some accessories. I paid almost $130 for the 2 of us. Having said that, it was a fantastic experience. We again lined up to cash out, which went smoothly. You can pay another $0.95 to get a cute box instead of a bag for your purchase and regardless, you can scan your toy's tag to print its certificate. It all definitely adds to the fun. I would recommend this as a special treat like a birthday. I wouldn't want to do it more than once but some children might really look forward to it as a special occasion. I really applaud all the staff who were organized, courteous and helpful. They really made the difference between a corporate grab bag, and a warm and fuzzy memory. Well done! read more

A true gem of an experience for the young and the young at heart! I took my kids here for a birthday present. It was a great time for the whole family. They chose their animal, the nice employee stuffed the "tou tou" and put a "beating" heart inside. You choose clothes/shoes and other paraphernalia, such as chair, etc. You name it and produce a birth certificate and can add a sound inside (e.g. Paw Patrol, rainbow sound, etc). Word of caution: it's VERY busy on the weekend, so you may have to wait in line for a few mins at the various stations. Nevertheless, its a magical/premium experience that you won't soon forget! Expect to pay between $75-$120 per animal, depending on the "add-ons" you select. read more

This location of Build A-Bear is great with a top notch customer service staff! They're extremely friendly with kids and add that extra magical touch for the kids! Prices are not bad, and they always have offers and promotions, introducing new characters as they are released.. Great spot! read more

The stuffed toys are kind of cute... I secretly got one for myself for the inner child in me. I love the clothes, the accessories and those cute shoes!! :) It is for sure great fun to dress up your own stuffed animal.... your little furry friend! :) Mine even has a pair of bunny slippers! read more

Yeah, so... it's a Build A-Bear workshop. It's not going to amaze you with its greatness, but it's exactly what it claims to be. You go in, you grab your bear-skin, fill it with fluff, add a heart, and buy some clothes. It's fun. What did you expect it to be, right? Plus, there are a ton of new licensed clothing options. For example, the new Star Trek line. That's what drew me in. I needed a plush phaser - not for my bear (actually I own a jedi monkey) but for my son. Where else can you buy a baby sized, baby safe ray gun? The only downside is the quality of their clothing is going downhill. This is a good experience for kids - an expensive good experience. Here's how it goes. 1. You choose an unstuffed bear/toy 2. You bring it to the staff that will stuff the toy for you. You choose the softness level. You go through a ritual - you jump, turn around and promise that you'll take care of your "friend" 3. Pick a heart to give your friend a life 4. You pick clothes for your friend 5. Pick shoes for your friend 6. Pick accessories for your friend 7. Name your friend (through an online birth registry) 8. Pay at least $ 40 for each toy It may not sound much but this can be addictive for kids. Like crack for adults. I have bought about four toys already for my niece and nephew so far. Each bear is roughly $ 20, clothes averaging $ 12, shoes averaging $ 10 and accessories roughly around $ 20. This can be a good gift for your kids but be prepared to spend money! read more

Build a bear is a fantastic concept for gift and kids entertainment! It can get a little costly depending on which bear or animal you select and what you add to it, but with that said it can also be affordable! I've come in to make numerous gifts for friends throughout the years and have even been there while one was being made for me. It's a really cute experience, kind of childish but if you're a big kid like me you'll like it. First you pick your unstuffed bear, then you bring it over to the stuffing machine and get to press your foot on the petal so it's like you're contributing to the stuffing. You can then put a heart into the bear, they make you hold it tight and rub it on different parts of your body to bring the bear all sorts of luck and you put it in. They have the standard red heart which is free, and a charity one and beating one that are more costly. Then you get to "wash your bear" in the tub which is just pressing on a petal and air comes out of the tap so it's as if you're washing your bear. Then you pick an outfit. I've found some things are reasonable and some outfits cost more than the bear!! You can also put a recorded voice chip in the bear before stuffing which I like to do, it costs about $10 to do this. Finally you get to make the bear a gift certificate where you name it and write who it's for and who it's from. If I have any advice especially to any big kids like me it is as follows: GO ON A WEEK DAY!!!!!!!!!! I got mine made on a Saturday afternoon and it was definitely a regret. We were in line for everything needed for this bear and the whole thing took about an hour. Go on a weekday and you'll be out in less than 10 minutes, and won't be surrounded by 100 snotty children ;) I'm sure I'll be back in the future for more gifts. The final price was a little bit high for what it is but seeing the look on her face was priceless.
