Within a couple of days two Orkin techs were at my door to introduce themselves and say they were going to do a walkaround. At this point they could have charged me anything to get rid of the darned mosquitos, and I'd have been none the wiser. But after the walkaround, they returned to my door to say that - unfortunately - what really needed spraying were the trees which were technically on my next door neighbor's property instead of my own, and that it didn't make sense to charge me so much to spray just the one tree that is on my own property. While I was sad that they were unable to spray and help me get rid of these darn mosquitoes, I was more than impressed and grateful about what an honest interaction it was. I would gladly hire them again in the future if I have any other pest control issues. I initally requested help with a squirrel problem in our atttic. This took about 7 or 8 visits by Hassan to repair/close entry points in our roof, set traps to catch the squirrels, and then several follow-up visits to inspect the attic to make sure squirrels had not returned. During the intial visit and survey of the roof and attic, Hassan pointed out some other issues he noticed: 1) there were several bee nests in the attic ---so I hired Hassan to remove the bee nests. 2) the gutters were full of debris from recent windstorms --- so I hired Hassan to clean the gutters. 3) one of the down pipes attached to the gutter was detached and bent --- so Hassan fixed that. 4) one of the soffits was hanging down a bit so Hassan fixed that. I always appreciate it when someone comes to provide a service and at the same time, points out other unrelated issues that could be a problem. They quoted us $200 -575, and then, said that it would be $575 + $175 + GST so to start with, it was expensive, but who wants fleas, right? We wanted it done fast and they were registered on Yelp and with Better Business Bureau and they had some good reviews... I thought I'd done my research. 1. The guy who showed up arrived on foot with a gas mask and spray container. He said that he parked down the street. I saw him leave by foot with a guilty look after I paid him and I swear I saw him drive past in a taxi! 2. He checked for fleas with his flashlight by looking up at the ceiling in one closet. I said that I had just shaken the bath mats and found one, so he picked one up and shook it. He didn't seem to know what he was looking for and he told us that the pest control spray would attract the fleas and that they would take it back to their nest and that would deal with them. Nest?! Fleas don't 'nest'. I should have canceled the appointment right there. 3. He had us leave the house and came out in 10 minutes. "All done," he announced. 10 minutes to spray all door frames and baseboards in a 2000+ sqfoot house? Well, what do we know. We've never dealt with this before. We've never hired exterminators before.... 4. The lady I spoke to on the phone said that we would need to be out of the house for 5-6 hours. "Sam" (short for "Hassam" from Surrey) said, "No, a couple hours only." Hmmm. 5. My 80 year old mom paid the total bill with a cheque and he left. That's when I returned to see him walking away and then, driving away in a taxi. I called the company back and spoke to the 'lady'. She became very defensive and said that it was up to me to do my research and that was my fault. Then, she said that they have to be properly accredited to be approved by Better Business Bureau, and tried to assure me that it would take time and that they would come back if the flea problem was not corrected by 6 weeks... We ended up hiring another company 2 weeks later as the problem was getting worse. What a disaster.

So 2 years later, we had the squirrels issue again, they came and they said materials are only one year. The materials all came from AAA Wildlife. At the end of the day, we got their competitor to come in and it was way cheaper and their competitor was offering 5 years guarantee on materials and pest free.
