Unfortunately, it rained the majority of the time we were there, but since we had a travel trailer, we just played games inside all day. The great part was that we knew the rain was coming so on day one, we went to the beach and enjoyed every minute in the warm water. The water is seems clean, the waves are great. Even though it's a river, I did not worry about floating away. I still enjoy watching the ships. One of my nieghbors showed me an app that gives you info on the ships that pass. I still recommend this place. Unlike lasdt time, no barking dogs nor car alarms. Even my neighbor had dogs and they were so well behaved. Great time! Definitely visit if you have a chance. This time we parked down by the restrooms (near tents). Okay, little kids don't know better and kept running through our spot, but when their parents saw them, they corrected them.

Unfortunately we never made it to the water because our dogs all got these tiny stickers/thorns in their paws, and I was wearing sandals, so I had these little stickers underneath my toes too and they hurt!! My poor lab started walking very oddly and so I checked his paws and they were all over his paw pads... thankfully I had my daughter who had thick shoes on to help me pick him up and get him off the grass and to the paved path. It was a horrible experience and I was surprised there were no warning signs saying to stay off the grass as there's tiny burs everywhere and you can't see them. That was our first experience with this place, there was a good amount of people there who were camping and no one else on the grass except us, now we know.... Please, Skamokawa Vista Park post signs for newcomers and their dogs who have no idea of the sticky burs that horribly hurt and stick to everything!! Needless to say we didn't make it to the water and no sunset photo opps because we were too busy pulling the burrs out of our shoes and our dogs paws... bathrooms were decent enough though.

What a wonderful under the radar waterfall this is...Beaver Falls!…read more Located 6 miles east of Clatskanie, Oregon, this area near the Columbia River is beautiful. Let's get straight to the heart of what Beaver Falls is all about... If you plug "Beaver Falls Trailhead" into Google Maps, you'll have no problem finding it. Then just park along the side of Highway 30 and hike 1/3rd of a mile through the forest to the base of the falls. It's that easy. When I visited on a Thursday in early afternoon of July, there was hardly anyone around which was good for taking quality photos. Best of all, you can swim in the waters. So definitely bring a bathing suit, towel and a pair of water shoes so the rocks won't hurt your feet while entering the pool beneath Beaver Falls. The water is cold but once you jump in and get comfortable, it's a terrific setting. There's also a long rope where you can swing across and splash down below. It's great for kids (and adults too, lol) to have playful times. For me, I was content soaking in the pool and appreciating the surroundings. More info... - It's free to visit. - Cell phone reception works fine. - You can walk underneath the falls! This is a Must-Do. You can capture some amazing moments standing beside Beaver Falls. It's not hard or dangerous and offers a unique perspective. - Beaver Falls is just one of many outstanding waterfalls situated around Oregon and especially near the Columbia River. There's also Lower Lewis River Falls, Panther Creek Falls and Spirit Falls, to name a few. - You can spend a few hours hanging out or as little as 30 - 40 minutes. It depends on your time horizon. But overall, it's really pleasant to be here that I'd suggest bringing snacks, lunch and maybe having a picnic. This Beaver Falls is absolutely so much fun to hang out at. When you can swim in the waters, swing from a rope and even walk underneath the falls, It makes for a worthwhile summer visit.

There is parking right at the beach access with a restroom (though from reading it's not always open) and if you're looking for a less crowded option on the coast, you should give this a visit. Some interesting seascapes to take in and a small waterfall (Hug Point Falls) to discover as well.

Well that's not the case at all with Cape Disappointment State Park. It is truly an amazing place. You get to see two lighthouses, beautiful views, the ocean and if you're lucky maybe even a whale. Which is exactly what we did see. We saw a Gray Whale lazing about in the water with it's fin treading water before quietly disappearing into the water. Of course taking in nature walks and hikes are a good option here too if it suits your fancy. I can definitely recommend very highly in regards to visiting this lovely park. It's truly a great one for the state!

We only did the Ecola Point viewpoint which has some short trails from the parking lot. You can see the lighthouse a little bit from some of the views, but probably not as well as grub the lighthouse view trail. Still amazing views tho down into Cannon Beach, haystack rock, etc. If you're going to visit a lot of state parks, I recommend getting the state park pass. Worth the price!

Getting out and walking the trail shows a sandy beach with tall grass. I was one of three people here. It was eerily quiet. Being a state park, a Discovery Park pass or $10 fee is required to park here. Crabbing and fishing are permitted. Giant trees covered in moss and lichen.

Wandered into the park looking to find the peninsula point and an easier walk with our 2 small…read moredogs. We were so lucky to meet a couple of trail stewards in the uppermost parking lot who advised us how to pay (pay in advance online, write the confirmation code, and place on your dash) as there is no machine on site. They also made sure we knew which areas the dogs were allowed in (everything south of the wildlife refuge) and which they are not (wildlife refuge itself). And walked with us for the first part of the Dune Loop trail along the bay beach. Much appreciated as the trail on the beach can be a bit difficult during the higher parts of a tide. We saw about 15 eagles flying together all enjoying the clear day and thermals, so many amazing trees with gorgeous moss and ferns, and yes even in end of February...a couple of garter snakes. It's a fairly easy hike in terms of elevation but I will say you need to be surefooted along the beach for sure but also through the forest as the trail has many roots and pinecones. It was easy enough that our dogs were able to do the full 2.8 mile loop without needing to be toted. Overall it's worth spending a morning or afternoon exploring, especially on the bay side. The sound of the ocean and trees are the only 'noise' and the traffic seemed to just be a couple of other folks and a lot of sandpipers.

We wanted somewhere to walk the dog, eat lunch, use the restrooms, and stretch our legs. There weren't a whole lot of options, but using Google Maps in the car, I was able to find Clatskanie City Park, which is also marked as Copes Park. This wasn't far off route 30, so it was a quick detour for us. You park along the road, and it was easy to find a spot right next to the park. While this park isn't enormous, there was nice green space with picnic tables, and we set up a spot to eat. There is a path and open area, for walking or playing. There is also a small playground. There are also portapotties to use. The park seems well maintained, and a nice place to enjoy.

Turns out it's a Hiroshima tree, which was grown from a seed that survived the nuclear blast - wow. My kids also love playing on the playground. We'll be back!
