A 4-mile paved trail that parallels the city's main thoroughfare and the trolley route…read more I did not actually see any signs for the Astoria Riverwalk but I guess I was going along it without knowing. From where we started at Pier 39 to almost the very end at the Port of Astoria, we continually stopped along the way whenever I would notice a spot park or pull over to be able to take beautiful pictures of the landscape and waterfront. I absolutely loved that there were wildlife either Sea Lions or Harbor Seals are laying around any kind of dock or floating device that they could and that you could hear them loud and clear. I didn't take my large camera with exchangeable lenses so I couldn't zoom in too much but seeing and hearing them made my heart happy. The views are just beautiful and worth the extra time to stop.

August 1, 2025 - Astoria…read more We walked the boardwalk along the river today. There are a few businesses scattered along the way, but the area is still mostly lined with industrial buildings. There are plenty of spots to pause and take in the view of the Columbia, and many trolley stops along the route. I would've liked to hop on the trolley, but we had our dog with us. We walked to where Buoy Beer Company once stood before the building collapsed. It's still there--fenced off, of course. What a shame. The Buoy warehouses remain, though. We had lunch at Astoria Brewery, where they have an outdoor patio--perfect for sitting with our pup. Afterward, we walked over to the Maritime Museum (admission is $18), but didn't go in since we had the pup with us. We checked out the Nordic Heritage Park, which highlights Astoria's huge Scandinavian influence in the late 1800s and early 1900s. We also went to the Garden of Surging Waves which gives tribute to contributions of the Chinese to Astoria.

I brought my children here as a last minute decision but we'll worth it . It's only about 1.8 miles out and back . This is not a loop trail. It's a great trail for young ones and pets. Another family brought there two dogs and two goats ! The trail is lightly trafficked. The trails are visible but the pathway is very narrow deeper into the forest. On wet days it is very muddy and can be a bit slippery! Hiking boots would be a definite on this trail. Lots of birds and slugs and other insects along the path keeping it fun for kids ! We did a little scavenger hunt which made it super fun ! The water falls were small but very beautiful! To get the best effect you have to climb down to where it forms a triangle then you can see both falls at the same time and the vibe is magical! When your driving to the campground the paved road does turn into a gravel road . There are signs and the gravel was well kept. You'll pass the first camping section then come to a second section and there is a bit of parking . Your only on the gravel road for maybe 2 miles .

There has been no camp host for the last three years And the area is showing the results. People are leaving their trash behind, I won't even try to explain how the outhouses get and there has been multiple occasiona with people shooting guns at the sites #15 up through the off road sites past the campground. racing by on their atv's through out the night. I doubt my husband and I wI'll camp there again which is sad as I've said we had really enjoyed this campground over the years.

Go on hikes, look for rocks shells, surf, get lost in nature, just sit in the grass and watch the ocean. Here is what you can do at Ecola State Park: Hiking & Walking: Explore trails ranging from easy strolls to challenging hikes through Sitka spruce forests. The Clatsop Loop Trail follows the path of1806 explorers, while the Oregon Coast Trail offers longer, scenic treks. Indian Beach: A popular, secluded cove for surfing, sunbathing, and tide-pooling to see sea stars and anemones. Viewpoints: Take in spectacular vistas from Ecola Point, including views of the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse ("Terrible Tilly") and distant Haystack Rock. Wildlife Viewing: The park is known for herds of elk grazing in the meadows, as well as sightings of bald eagles and migrating gray whales. Picnicking: Enjoy lunch at the picnic areas located on the grassy bluffs with ocean views. Photography: The dramatic, moody coastline provides excellent opportunities for photography. Oregon State

The drive through the forest is a passage into another world. Sitka spruce and hemlock lean over the road as if they are curious about you. At the end of the road the land opens and the Pacific announces itself in vast gray blues and greens, broken by sea stacks that rise like stubborn monuments. The trails are generous. Some wander to secret beaches, others climb to high points where the ocean and horizon meet like two old friends. Indian Beach is a gathering of tide pools, surfers, and quiet sand. Crescent Beach feels private, almost hidden, with the company of seals if you are lucky. Wildlife belongs here as much as people. Elk graze, eagles soar, and sometimes whales turn the water into theater. The park offers all of this without asking much in return, except that you take your time. Bring layers because the wind and mist move through the park like they own the place. Take your time. Sit, watch, breathe. This park gives you a rare combination of accessibility, natural beauty, and serenity. I regret not praising this place sooner. Ecola State Park holds the kind of beauty that makes you feel both small and fortunate. Five stars, without hesitation.
