Buffet City is one of my favorite places. The food is very good! Shrimp, Lo Mein, rice, sesame chicken, several other dishes are available. Its been there for quite some time so a lot of people like it. And the employees are nice. However.... I visited tonight and was disappointed by a couple of things. 1. No silverware anymore. Theyve gone to plastic forks. I'm sorry but if I'm going to pay $17 for a meal, I'd at least like to have real cutlery to work with. 2. One dangerous element was that the floor are very slippery. Perhaps from condensation, i don't know. They have signs down warning that the floors were slippery, but this was unreal. A customer has the right to expect a safe environment to eat. And if someone had a bad fall and decided to sue, I'm sorry but those little plastic signs aren't going to protect the restaurant. Put a few mats down for crying out loud! Fix that and the review would be better. But again, the food is very good.

food is definitely the absolute worst Chinese I have ever have eaten ! Service was not terrible, pretty sure they can't speak any English because they don't talk , there's no music playing or tvs you can hear everyone talking at there tables and I will never go back and if you read all of this just don't go like I did to just try just in case you didn't believe the reviews waste of time and you will be going straight to the bathroom immediately

STAY AWAY Just stopped to get sweet and sour chicken ( chicken is hard as brick, shrimp was old ) Pretty much the whole buffet was stale and when I ask for fresh fried rice she tried to charge me $3.20 for that on top of $9.80 for the plate that is inedible and cold. God Bless and good luck if you go here.

Let me tell you about our first rodeo at Shiki…read more We pulled up excited, walked in... and I ain't gonna lie -- the place looked a little drab. Not "health department issue" drab, just "could use a fresh coat of paint and a pep talk" drab. I started second-guessing all those glowing reviews like, "Did these folks eat at the same place?" Then came the entrance situation. The host stand was vacant. No "please wait to be seated" sign. Just us standing there like we were about to audition for a sushi commercial. So we start to seat ourselves when the lone waiter -- and I mean lone ranger -- glances over and says, "Just a minute." Oh. Copy that. We did the walk of shame right back to the door and waited properly this time. After sitting a spell, he got to us and took our order. Now bless his heart -- that man was running ragged. Every table was full and he appeared to be handling the whole dining room solo. Plates, drinks, orders, probably washing dishes in the back too. We waited... and waited... and waited. It was pushing 30 minutes before the food finally touched down. Now let's talk about the decor. The inside could use some TLC. Maybe a little facelift. Maybe some brighter lighting. Maybe a plant that's alive. But hear me clearly: What the front of house is missing, the chef in the back is absolutely making up for. From the first bite of that ginger salad to the last grain of rice, I started wondering if I'd accidentally walked into an episode of Iron Chef. That salad was crisp and fresh, the soup was on point, and then my salmon hibachi showed up like it had something to prove. And let me tell you -- that salmon was spectacular. Cooked just right. Flavorful. Tender. Seasoned like somebody back there cares deeply about their craft. That chef can flat-out throw down on the grill. Great food. Great flavor. Zero complaints about what hit the plate. Price? Outstanding. Party of two ate for under $50 at a sit-down restaurant -- and that's including a 30% tip. In this economy? That's practically a public service. So here's where I land: (4 out of 5 stars) If service had been quicker, we'd be talking five stars without hesitation. But I'm giving grace here because that waiter looked like he was one espresso away from levitating, and the place was packed -- which, by the way, is usually the surest sign the food's top-notch. We'll be back. And next time, we'll walk in with patience... and maybe a snack in our pocket just in case. Bottom line: Don't judge this book by its cover. The outside may whisper "meh," but the kitchen is singing hallelujah.

We started with the jalapeño calamari, which is always so delicious. We also ordered the spicy tuna tartare, and it was incredibly fresh and packed with flavor. I got the hibachi salmon, and it was honestly some of the best salmon I've ever had. My boyfriend ordered the hibachi shrimp, which was also delicious. The rice and noodles were so flavorful--I could honestly just eat those and be completely happy. We also tried the vegetarian lovers sushi combo, which came with a tofu roll, an avocado roll, and a cucumber roll. Everything was very fresh and super tasty. Another great experience, and it's no surprise that we'll definitely be going back!

Oh also, I literally watched managers just walk by and stare into space. I walked out to get my uber and the manager just stared at me. The customer service was that authentic -- warm, efficient, and somehow reading my mind before I even opened my mouth. I half expected someone to hand me a JR Rail Pass with my check. The gyoza? Perfect. Like, "I should probably order 12 more just to be safe" perfect. The ramen was easily some of the best I've had in the United States -- rich broth, great noodles, and flavors that actually taste like someone's grandma in Tokyo whispered secrets into the pot. Now, full honesty: the egg was a little overcooked. But considering the American need for speed (and the fact that we treat restaurant meals like pit stops at Daytona), I get it. Cooking eggs to order in that environment is basically Olympic-level timing. And besides, the broth was so spot-on that it made up for everything. If you're craving legit ramen with service that makes you nostalgic for Japan -- even if you've never been -- Fuku Ramen is the move.

Good Chinese Food with a Unique Bonus…read more Mr. Chen's is a solid choice if you're craving Chinese food in Tuscaloosa. I wouldn't call it exceptional, but it's consistently good, and there's a legitimate case that it may be the best Chinese restaurant in town depending on what you're looking for. The attached Chinese grocery store is what really sets it apart. It's fun to browse before or after your meal and offers a unique experience that you won't find at most local restaurants. On the food side, the Orange Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, and Mongolian Beef were all flavorful and worth ordering again. The egg roll, fried rice, crab angels, hot and sour soup, and tapioca milk tea were all enjoyable as well. My only disappointment was the hot mustard. Instead of homemade hot mustard, they only offer the standard packaged packets. It's a small detail, but homemade mustard would have been a nice touch. Overall, Mr. Chen's serves quality Chinese food in a city with relatively limited options. Between the reliable menu and the attached Asian market, it's definitely worth a visit and one of the better places in Tuscaloosa for Chinese cuisine.
