a beautiful sunset over the water
    Jessica R.

The Buffalo outer harbor is my favorite place in Buffalo. It's only 5 minutes from my house so I come here quite often to walk my dogs, ride my bike, ride the boat, and attend events. Its a beautiful green space with lots of biking trails and tons of scenic overlooks. There are several places to stop along the water front. There's plenty of parking lined along the entire waterfront as well.

I see you, seagull. Stop trying to blend in

This is where I chose to "out" my gf as a porn actress to the Yelp community, so it's called Buffalo Out-her Harbor for that reason. As far as I know, this Harbor is not used to Harbor fugitives, but even it was, it would not change the fact that it's a spectacularly gorgeous place to visit and explore in WNY. Buffalo is such an underrated City, and the spectacular outer harbor is a great reason why. One of many reasons actually. A lot of people think of Buffalo as a run-down industrial city. It's been rejuvenated a lot but one thing it always has had is spectacular natural beauty. Come down to the harbor and see for yourself. The city is known as the Queen City, and the majestic views of this part of the city will make you feel like a Queen. But not in that sense. But maybe that too. It's your business. And I fully support it.

If the out doors and being close to nature is your thing. This is one of the best places to come to. You have so much you can do and see. Such as, riding your bike on the bike paths. Many people enjoy the fact there is so much open space for picnicking, or even just sitting out on the lawn reading a book. There's also a place for kayaks, and there bikes and other water activities that you can rent. I believe there are concerts here as well, but that is only in the summer.

I've been on the Miss Buffalo a few times in my life time. It's always nice to take a boat ride and enjoy the scenery. The price differs depends on what time of the day your ride is. My family and I did the 2pm cruise for $22 per adult over the age of 12 and $12 per child 11 and younger. They sell snacks and beverages on the boat. No outside food or beverages are allowed on the boat. I would recommend purchasing your tickets ahead of time or online.

In the summer they have the buffalo outer harbor concert series, you can purchase a ticket to see some top name acts.

This is a great outdoor area to walk, ride bikes, walk your dog, or just sit and relax. It's so beautiful on a gorgeous day like today. It stretches from the Coast Guard (where the lighthouse route is) to different marinas. There are trails where you can walk that go on for miles. One takes you up to some cool metal that swirls in the wind and makes neat designs. When we're not in a pandemic, you can rent bikes and kayaks. I love that it isn't overdeveloped. The best part is, I finally found the Flatman Statue today. It made my whole day. It was originally at the Griffis Sculpture Park in East Otto, NY. It now sits in the Buffalo Outer Harbor. If you walk far down the one walking path, it's right near the water. Come down and take a walk to check out the cool statue and then gaze at the water!!!

Roux, about to go on our walk at the Outer Harbor.

Man, I can't believe I just started walking my dog here and missed out when the weather was a little nicer. I love the trails and park area. My dog, a slightly shaky and recently rescued chihuahua, also loves this place and is a little less shaky when we walk here (nervous dog out in the wild). We have been going here a few times a week for the past two weeks or so and each time try a new trail, start from a new place or go a little further each time. If you time it right, the General Mills factory wafts the sweet smell of baking cheerios in the air while you walk by the water. This must be one of my favorite sents in the entire world and now I get to walk my dog at sunset by the water while smelling literally tons of baking Cheerios. I don't know if my dog Roux can smell the Cheerios but I think she can admire it too. I also like this place because the trails offer a nice mix of by the water, in the grass, and more wooded areas so no one gets bored while walking. A few of the trails also have a scenic view of the Buffalo downtown area. Other dog owners, so far, are also very courteous which is a plus. One thing to consider, it gets pretty windy in the colder months so dress very warm.

    Concessions stand!

Wow, can't believe I didn't know this park existed until today. Nice spot (and wasn't busy at all on a Saturday with nice weather, surprising) to see the water and just relax. There's plenty of Adirondack chairs and picnic tables, as well as a concessions stand that has some food, ice cream, and local craft beers on tap and or in cans! Prices are fair too! There's also corn hole, giant connect 4, and other lawn games. Good spot for any age group or family to enjoy. Come to the Buffalo Outer Harbor to: -Sit and relax in wooden Adirondack chairs and enjoy a nice view of the water -Picnic -Fly a kite -Go for a walk, run, bike, or roller blade on the paved bike trails -Launch a kayak -Enjoy a cold local brew or treat Parking: Free. There's a small parking lot that holds about 10-15 cars, but there's also tons of parking along the road.

New gazebo and beautiful wind sculptures overlook Lake Erie.

Although Yelp lists this as a "music venue," that is somewhat misleading. This whole area has so much to offer for walkers, runners, bikers, picnic-goers, families. It's beautiful with a breathtaking view of Lake Erie, downtown Buffalo and the wind turbines. There is a nature preserve (and no, I'm not talking about Tift), a couple manmade beaches, benches, boardwalks and access to the coast guard station and Buffalo's beautiful, historic lighthouse. I would love to see some very small businesses scattered throughout. A seasonal ice cream hut, another restaurant/bar (I am not a huge fan of Dug's Dive but it's better than nothing). It is also not easily accessible from downtown if you are on bike. By car, just take the Skyway to Furhmann Blvd. I'm excited to see all the development down here!

Thunder in the Water event was great! It is free. A good sized crowd, but not overcrowded. Plenty of room for viewing. If going tomorrow, as the event continues, bring your lawn chair and bug repellent. Biting flies were around. Three food trucks there today- Lloyds, Franks, and a pizza one.

Her bass player is amazing! He sounds like Brad Paisley! I have no musical talent so it really moved me how well he played the bass. The other artists played well too! The venue is fantastic. It was my first time here. Sportsman's Tavern bought the venue three or four years ago. It isn't a dive bar like Sportsman's Tavern though. It's much more intimate. It's classier too. I liked the way they had the tables set up. I loved the stage area too. There is a small bar area where you can order drinks. There was also a waitress coming around asking if we wanted drinks or food. They have a small menu, and the food sounded good, but I wasn't hungry. You can park on the street or in their small parking lot, which holds about 25/30 spots. You'll enter the venue via a dark door near the front parking spot. There is much more room inside, than how it looks from their lot. The lot was a bit hard to find. I ended up driving around the block and then I noticed it. I'd love to come back here and see another concert soon!

I had to go early to buy one at the door (when I called at 7, they said they expected it to sell out before 8) - it looks a little odd from the outside, but The Cave is definitely a cool spot to stop at if you like live music!

Also, while standing at the bar, I heard the lady checking tickets say something to the bartender about being aware of underage people here. What I didn't like were the drink prices and cleverly hidden fees. I ordered 2 drinks at the bar so I could sit and enjoy the show. It was $29 and they were 8 oz glasses. I barely drink and did not feel a drop of alcohol. I couldn't believe I paid that PLUS tip for basically some juice. I realized what they did when I got home: they gave me 2 receipts ... the top being merchant copy. Merchant copy had my price for the drinks and area to sign and tip. I shoved the other copy in my pocket and when I got home, I realized they charged a 2% management fee AND another 18% fee. So with my tip, I paid an additional 40% total. Yikes. Not worth it. It's frustrating to think that an hour of music from a local band and 2 drinks has become difficult to afford, when it used to be a regular thing for me when I was young and didn't have much. Anyway, more of what I liked: Venue was clean and seats clearly labeled. They had a QR code right at your seat to order food and drink so you didn't have to get up once in your seat. I didn't order any food, but others did around me, and it looked good. Back to what I didn't like: I paid for a premium seat and it was the worst seat in the house. It was at the corner of the stage (the only stage side seat left) and I could not see almost the entire band! There were 4 men up front I did not see at all until the next day when they posted pictures. I thought "ok so that's what they look like". And ironically in those photos. You couldn't see the only 2 people I could see from my seat: I could only see 2/3 of the drummer with the curtain next to me. The only real view of anyone I had was the bass player. If I just stared at him, that would feel creepy lol so I looked at the stage floor often. Do not sit where I sat in the corner of the stage. I could somewhat see the video screen, but there was a slight lag and threw off what was playing versus what you were seeing. I guess if I came here again, I would have to have a seat available center stage, and would skip the drinks and opt for food due to the high cost. Maybe the food would feel like more bang for the buck. Watch the 20% total fees they'll getchya! I feel the venue is well-managed otherwise.

These are dark, dark times indeed...but somehow, Nietzsche's is a little beacon of light down at the end of Allen Street. From the exterior, it isn't hard to surmise that Nietzche's is a dive bar. Very much coated outside and in with writing on the walls, old photographs, weird relics that have been around for longer than I've been alive, you immediately forget what the sun looks like if you're going in in the daytime. But, that's okay. The people of Allentown will tell you that the dark is comforting...and you wouldn't want to see a place like this properly lit up ANYWAY... But don't get it twisted, what might come off as "rough around the edges" to some, this bar is absolutely one of the coziest, comforting dives and I'm always ecstatic whenever I get the chance to come here. They have a pretty decent variety as far as beverages go. Mostly tap beers, but they have a fridge with plenty of other canned stuff; my go-to is a cider, of course. A cheap PBR is my husband's drink of choice and has been for most of his adult life - and that's what we love about this place! The consistency!! Live music daily. Yes, daily. They literally have a calendar inside that will tell you every musician that has booked a spot that day. Sometimes it's just a solo guy playing in the front of the house, other times there's a full band in the back. Either way, you're going to get a totally unique music experience here, no matter what day you pick or what time you get there! I think they have snacks here?? I can't remember. After The Pink burned down we went to Nietzsche's the next day and they were serving up bagels and cream cheese. Totally unique experience. But I have eaten in this establishment before. However, this place isn't known for it's food, so I wouldn't rely on it. Instead, might I recommend the Jim's SteakOut down the street? Nietzsche's is owned by some pretty good people now, who are putting their heart and soul into keeping the business good and the music flowing for years to come. And I can't wait to go back. Rock on y'all.
