The Inn is right in the heart of the village, with nice restaurants north and south on Elmwood. Intermixed are interesting shops and boutiques, cafes, and even a cool grocery store. A mile south is Allen Street and all its wares; a mile north is Buffalo State and the art museum. Hop on a one of those rent-by-the-hour bikes, and Canalside and downtown is a quick pedal away. Even more, there is easy access to the freeway that gets you to Niagara Falls quickly (I suggest Whirlpool State Park for an alternative trip; the hike to the bottom of the gorge is gorgeous). The Inn itself is clean, interestingly decorated and comfortable. The room we stayed in was large ... and my wife took advantage of the large bathtub to soak away a late evening while enjoying a glass of wine. There are snacks, toiletries, water and other small touches that made the stay very enjoyable. What isn't mentioned on the Inn's website prominently is the breakfast: they are delicious. The owner has worked in the restaurant industry as a chef, and it shows. There is a wide selection of healthy options (such as fruit, granola, yogurt) along with hearty meals, pastries, cheese, sausage, etc. And, perhaps most importantly, the coffee was great. One last thing: take advantage of the porch. There is an outdoor sitting area off the communal living room that provides a great place for enjoying coffee and a newspaper in the morning, and a delicious nightcap (perhaps with some Buffalo-style pizza) in the late evening. The people watching from the porch is also great (Elmwood Avenue is pedestrian-heavy throughout the day and evening). Anyway ... if you enjoy culture, food, people-watching, access and beautiful neighborhoods, you'll love this place.

The room I booked slept up to 4 people, a bunk bed and a large twin, huge room with full kitchen, micro wave, full refrigerator and bath room. This is a recently remodeled lodge, everything looks new, very clean and the owner is very friendly. The lodge has other room options, and the room rates are better then what you will find in the area. If you are visiting the area I highly recommend staying and driving the extra distance to fishing areas.

But unfortunately it has a long way to go. The building itself looks like it might have been built as some sort of boarding house. It's laid out like an apartment house, but the rooms are just that: a room, with a bathroom attached. (Indeed, I got the impression that some people I encountered were tenants.) The place appears to be undergoing modest renovation at a glacial pace. It was clean enough, but the aura overall is just sort of oppressive. Though I don't think there is any safety issue, the vibe is such that I do not think a female traveler would feel comfortable. My biggest gripe is that everything in my room was cheap: the couple pieces of rickety furniture, the cheapest mattress money can buy, a lump of foam pillow, and nasty nasty nasty synthetic sheets. It doesn't have to be beautiful, but I want a good night's sleep, which isn't happening here. And when I get up, I want a shower. My second floor room had NO water pressure, so I finally gave up on the refreshing shower idea, since I did not have 45 minutes to spend under a dribble (literally) of water. But as noted, the host (owner?) is very nice. He puts out a good basic breakfast. The RPInn appears to be a labor of love, and I wish him luck. I hope he reads these reviews, because he needs to understand his guests' expectations, however modest they may be. Also, it should be noted the owner gives a discount on your next stay if you write a review. That's okay, don't think I'll be needing that.

The prices were amazing but not worth staying there.

Joseph and Craig are wonderful accommodating hosts and their home is beautiful. I felt welcomed, cared for, and even included (which was an unexpected surprise). Some of the best moments from my trip were simply chatting with the hosts around the home or on the screened porch. As far as amenities, I do not know of another Lily Dale guest house that offers nearly as many. Beyond the air conditioning, my room had a mini-fridge with bottled water and coffee creamer, a Keurig coffee maker with mugs and fixings, and a flat-screen TV complete with Netflix access! The beds are the most comfortable in the Dale! If that's not amazing enough, Craig put fresh flowers on my nightstand when I arrived. I was also pleased to learn that some of the guest rooms will be upgraded with private bathrooms. If it's not obvious already, I know EXACTLY where I'll be staying during my visit next season. Especially if you want to be in the area of the Darwin Martin house, Delaware Park, the zoo etc. Chris, the proprietor, is great. We were able to get in the room early and put some fresh flowers down for our guest. We were able to arrive late as well without issue. The room we saw is huge with an en suite bathroom. Windows open easily. Nice heavy curtains allowing for a dark room for sleeping off jet lag. Breakfast was at 8:30 and very nice. Fresh breads and fruit, quiche, coffee or tea. You get the idea. This place seems to get return guests and sells out in advance so plan early if possible. Parking is street.
