Rented me a car that had 0% oil life and a low tire pressure light. I had to get to a scheduled event, so when I noticed the light on the way out of the airport, I pulled over and visually inspected the tire. It had pressure. Drove less than 100 miles and had use of the car less that 24 hours before the tire was flat. They charged me over $600 for taking the car back with less than a day of use (I had rented it for a week and a day). They rented me an unsafe car, then left me with no replacement, then charged me 270 more than the weekly rental price! SCAM! We rent cars often for trips and have never been treated this way. I along with the 6 other people who came to the Budget rental desk on Tuesday night after 10pm, expecting to pick up our reserved car rentals were told that they had oversold their vehicles and not a single one of us would be able to get a car rental that night. The employee working showed no empathy or offered any solution to the issue. The person in front of me got loud and was understandably angry. And only because he was loud did the employee say "Ashley the manager said you can get an uber to your hotel tonight and then back tomorrow and they will reimburse you for the uber. He did not offer this option to any other customers, only when I stood there and said as each person walked up "are you going to offer them the uber option?" did he reservedly repeat this. One customer had flown in to retrieve his reserved car then planning to drive to Richmond, IN that night. He was now going to have to pay for a hotel room in the airport area and return to the airport the next day to retrieve a car. Again to which I loudly as the employee, "so there will be cars here in the morning?" to which he replied "well there should be cars here between 12-1pm, they will be returned by 10am and then ready to rent out after 12." So not only did they not have the reserved vehicles for any of us that night, they were going to take the next day from us as well and may be we could get a car! And if customer service meant anything to Budget, they would have pulled cars from other locations knowing they had an issue, they would have had a manager onsite to assist customers and if not getting vehicles that night, they would have been on the ball and get vehicles to the airport first thing the next morning. Yes this was a huge screw up on the part of this location and the managers of this location, but it is also a reflection of Budget Company in general. Some of the customers who had arrived before us had gone to other rental desks and some were able to book cars with the other rental companies but by the time we were at the desk, all of the cars had been rented. Budget in general you want to stay far away from. They have customer NO service. I rented a truck from Cincinnati Airport and the truck had issues so I called the 800# on the rental agreement and they were no help. They said I would need to just go to a location so I went to the one closest to me in Miamisburg Dayton OH and they said that they don't have enough cars for the rentals coming in. He said they are all franchise stores and I would need to go to the airport so I drove 30 min to the Dayton Airport. Once I got there and told them the issues they said I will need to go inside and they can take care of it. Well...after waiting in line for 35 minutes he asked if I called Roadside Assistance, and I said no I did what the 800# told me to do. He then said until you call road side assistance there is nothing I can do. I had to stand there and wait on hold another 15-20 minutes for them to answer and send a message to Dayton Airport that I need to exchange vehicles. After all that I had a Ram 1500 and the only thing they could give me was a 12 passenger sprinter van. When I got out there to get it the air in one tire was low and another one was 40lbs to high. Whatever you do don't go through Budget or Avis for that matter as they are the same company and service both sides at the counter. I will never rent again. They are called Budget for a reason. If you have to pay more somewhere else it will be worth dealing with this company! read more

The Absolute Worst!!!!!! I reserved a compact car only to arrive and be told they only have 16-Passenger Vans and Large Trucks. One day into driving the monster truck, I called customer service to ask if I could swap-out the truck for a smaller vehicle. The 1-800 representative was quick to confirm I could, and all I would need to do was to take the vehicle back to the airport for the swap (he assured me they had plenty of smaller vehicles, now in stock). Unfortunately, when I arrived at the airport, I was told they DIDN'T have smaller vehicles available. Additionally, the airport representatives were unwilling/unable to help me find a location that did have smaller vehicles. I wasted an hour of my time trying to make the swap that never happened. I WILL NEVER RENT FROM BUDGET (or their affiliates) AGAIN!!!!!! 1-800 representatives are not able to verify or confirm individual location inventories (they are only there to make you a reservation and collect your credit card ). Individual location representatives DON'T CARE AT ALL. God help you if you really have a problem (like mechanical, or otherwise). read more

I was forced to rent because it was the lowest price for a business trip. The car windows were filthy and the steering wheel and center console were sticky like something had been spilled but not completely wiped up. Fair warning even if your gas gauge needle is on full they will take a digital reading and charge you for a fill up that you can't see on an analog gauge. In my case, according to them, I picked it up with 13.7 and dropped it off with 13.1 the needle was still on full, the .6 difference was not visible on the fuel gauge read more

I was told by customer service that I did not rent a luxury car. I was also told at the airport that this was incorrect. I provided a screenshot of the item I expected and was stuck with a vehicle I did not want. This was our wedding day. The staff was incredibly rude and expected me to be aware they would not have my car because there is no need for nice cars in Dayton. The car was dirty and had a container of bacon under the seat, it was not swept. Then again on my wedding we turned the car in and was told it would total 178 dollars for being late. The customer service was no help. I have rented cars hundreds of times and thought I would try Budget because they were a little cheaper than my usual go to which is enterprise. Well it ended up being a lot more expensive and a waste of time and money. I realize now that I should not be cheap and go with the better option. From start to finish this was a bad experience. From initial check in to discussing with customer service. Customer service- 0/10 Car cleanliness- 0/10 Overall value- 0/10 I'm honestly surprised this place is standing. If I could give this Budget 0 stars I probably would. I rented with them the last week of September. To start, the agents at the check in counter at the airport were rude to customers, even when I went out of my way to be kind and pleasant to them. I overhead one customer asking for refund compensation because he had to jumpstart the car they rented him three times and he had to return it early, and even the manager gave him nothing but attitude. Although I could provide even more details on why my check in experience didn't go according to plan, what's more important is what happened after I got the car. Having only had the car for two days, the check engine and traction control lights came on, and I had to go through Budget roadside support to get the car towed. I was not going to get a replacement car either because they did not have one available. I waited seven hours for a tow truck to arrive, because after my initial one and a half hour call with support, upon calling the tow company another hour later, it was revealed that Budget had actually not processed my request properly. Additionally, after I had two additional calls with roadside assistance and customer service, I had to call customer service again the day after the car was towed to ensure that the Budget office at the Dayton airport checked in the car and closed my rental agreement -- because they had not despite the car being returned 18 hours prior. Not only would I caution people against Budget as a whole, but I will never rent a car out of Dayton again. Oh, and I had to have two follow up calls to ensure I received a refund they tried to not give me for the days I didn't have the car. read more

The car I received was in Terrible condition and unsafe. The tires were bald and wires were exposed but I didn't notice until I started driving in the highway. There was literally a hole in the driver side floor board and you could hear the wind come thru. Once I returned to get a different vehicle which was highly inconvenient, I was told there were no other vehicles available. After asking to speak with a manager I was ignored and the guy walked away so I proceeded to the booth where the manager was and he was also very rude and unprofessional almost refusing to speak to me. Finally I got another car which was in good shape. Once I arrived at my hotel a found a full size trash bag full of trash in the trunk and French fries under the seats. This tells me two things; preventive maintenance checks and services are not being done on these vehicles before they get rented and employees are not taking the time to properly clean the vehicles. Too bad you can't give negative stars, because I am currently STRANDED AT THE AIRPORT BECAUSE THIS COMPANY CLOSED AN HOUR EARLY. The listed hours are until midnight and I've been in the baggage claim area since shortly after 11. At no point has there been anyone in that window, nor across the street in the garage (checked multiple times). And when I called their customer service line I was put on eterna-hold so long that the phone rang again, went to a busy signal, and hung up from their end. I am here for a week with no transportation. I am going to have to pay a cab to get to where I am staying. Guess who will never use this company again? read more

We prepaid for a rental car weeks ahead of time. When we checked in, we declined all extras. We returned the car in perfect condition with a full gas tank. A few days after we returned it, we had a charge for an extra $50?!?! We called and were told that we were charged for an upgraded car, which we NEVER agreed to. These guys are SCAM artists...DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!!! UPDATE: My husband called Budget and after spending a great deal of time on the phone with a supervisor, she agreed to refund him the $50. DON'T RENT HERE....I will be filing a complaint with the BBB, I turned in my undamaged vehicle then almost a month later I get an email indicating there was windshield damage, the car was checked and looked over by your representative and my receipt was provided indicating no damage because there wasn't . I supplied copies of my receipt showing no damage indicated via email to your ERS billing center and then called, yet you refuse to yield on the plan to bill me.The car was returned in the same condition it was in when I rented it and any charges to my credit card from your company beyond what I paid for the rental is fraud, it took almost a month to find damage, how convenient that you found it when I was no longer there to verify that it was or wasn't damaged. read more

The budget desk was closed, so we were redirected to the avis counter (apparently their sister company). We waited 15-20 minutes while 2 employees struggled to help their customers complete the car checkout process. The 3rd employee had to walk over and assist them several times. This 3rd employee was loud and very pushy to the elderly couple she was assisting. They declined her offer for their liability plans, which prompted her to repeat several times that should something happen "she'll be sending them the check and they will have to pay." Most drivers have insurance that covers such incidents, so I felt that she was attempting to scare them into paying unnecessary costs. Finally this 3rd employee was available and began assisting us. We had prepaid, had our confirmation on our phone and simply needed to sign. We went to sign and noticed a $30 extra charge which she claimed was our fault for being late. She claimed we had missed our reservation time and would be charged another day. We corrected her, showing her the original contract which showed we were within our scheduled pick up time. We then pointed out that the screen showed she was charging us the $30 for additional services, which we had already declined her offer for. She then again blamed us, acting put out that she had to correct her mistake. We finally got out of there with our car, 30-40 minutes later...Renting a rental car should not be this difficult. To make matters worse the car we received had obviously been smoked in pretty heavily. Will not use Budget or Avis in Dayton again. read more

The counter at the Dayton Intl Airpot was closed when i arrived so I followed the instructions to proceed to the garage. No one was in the garage either and when I finally located someone, he informed me I had to go back in to Avis. Avis was very friendly, checked me in and assigned a car. I went back to the garage and the same rude person informed me he would not inspect the car for damage but the person who opens the garage gate would have to do it. Upon returning the car, I realized my cell had fallen out of my briefcase in the back of the car. I called the counter DOZENS of times and got a recording. I left multiple messages with lost and found (the distribution ext) and NO CALLS were ever returned. I eventually called Avis and they at least tried to help. Do whatever you have to do to avoid this company at all costs. The few dollars I saved on the rental was absolutely not worth it in the end. read more

This time however despite telling the clerk I wanted no extras especially insurance, however they added a $78 charge for insurance anyway. I should have looked at the contract closer, but when you tell someone that you don't want something you expect them to do things correctly. Renters beware! Don't let Budget rip you off with a sneaky 'upgrade'. 15 plus years of international travel and I've never had this happen before. I guess I got complacent. Had a reservation for a compact car. The counter agent asked me if 'a Hyundai Elantra was ok." Not, "do you want to upgrade to a Hyundai?' or "Go BIG and get an Elantra!". Granted I don't do research on what constitutes 'compact cars' for Budget but he didn't say "Escalade or Camero" so no alarm bells went off. Plus, I can't count how many times I've gotten a class of car above what I rented for no charge since the company didn't have any in that class available. Upon getting the receipt I saw the upgrade charge and called Budget customer service. The cost certainly wasn't worth that waste of 10 min of my life. I was told "I should have read the contract." Yep, I should have. That's my responsibility. I'll know next time that this is a trick Budget likes to play. The cost was minimal but I bet it really adds up for Budget. They snuck an upgrade into the contract without telling me and without my noticing the price increase. They now refuse to remove the charge since I signed the contract. I feel I was scammed or tricked by the counter staff at Budget rental car. I rented a car through Priceline expected to receive a reasonable priced vehicle. While at the counter on 3/28 Rachel helped me. She asked if I accept responsibility for the vehicle which I thought meant I would pay for any damages. She meant I would take their outrageously overpriced protection plans. All three plans apparently. She circled a bunch of things for me to initial which I did. When I dropped the car off my $37 rental became $109. I immediately returned to the counter and complained to Rachel. She explained that it meant I would take their plans. She offered to take $27 off but not the other $55 in plans. I plan to complain to Priceline and America. Express. In addition I caution anyone from rented from budget as the way they present the protection plan is very deceptive. read more

Thinking ahead, I wanted to put two other adults names on the record to pick up the vehicles in the event my flight was delayed. They would not do it. They gave me some illogical "we just are not able to do that" reason becuase I pre-paid, sounds backwards to me. So they said that a goup of children would have to wait in the airport for an indefinite amount of time, even overnight, if my flight was delayed or cancelled, because I made the reservation in my name and pre-paid ?? I arrived on a delayed midnight flight, only to be redirected to the Avis counter. After standing in line, that I was the head of, for over 30 minutes; I was asked if a Ford Focus was ok, an apparent upgrade. I accepted, unaware of any additional resulting charges. I was then repeatedly asked if I was interested in additional insurance coverage, which I wasn't. The salesman went so far as to threaten any damages to the vehicle would be taken immediately from the debit card that I used to pay for the car. He also told me that up to $200 would be held from my car for the reservation. With this knowledge, I wasn't concerned when my bank account had a pending transaction for over $200, when I had reserved my rental for $162.00 Upon dropping my car off at the airport this morning, I was made aware of the new total listed on my contract for $220.18. I had never been informed of the upgrade and felt rushed through the signature process, in addition to being exhausted after a twelve hour travel day. It seems apparent to me that this company uses scare tactics to coerce people into purchasing additional services and takes advantage of weary travelers just wanting to get home, or wherever else they are going. I will NEVER Budget again and will be sure to discourage anyone I know who might. read more

Wow! This place is the worst...I wish I could give them negative stars. On the outside they seem like they are truly taking care of you. On the other hand they are just being sweet to sucker punch you when you aren't looking. I reserved a car through Costco like I've done a dozen or more times in the past. I've never really had any problems except for the counter staff trying to get me to upgrade and spend money on things I don't want or need. I never cave and I stick to what I want. If the car has a problem when I get it, I ask for another...simple. This time takes the cake though I got a car for the weekend to see my family. The guy at the counter tried to get me to get all sorts of extra insurance and I verbally declined EVERYTHING! When he printed out the rental agreement he explained that there were some charges for airport tax, and a holder for me to use my debit card. He also explained that I was getting a Mazda5 instead of the Hyundai Elantra I had reserved. I said that's fine as long as I'm only charged for what I was quoted through Costco....$45 for the weekend. He explained that when I dropped off the car only the fee for the car-$45 would hold unless I returned the car late, damaged, or empty of fuel. I read the agreement and asked some questions with the same answers given. I was leery but signed and buzzed out the door with my car, excited that I was getting out of town to see family I hadn't seen in almost two years. Had a wonderful weekend until I went to return the car. The car was clean, filled with fuel and had no problems. Then the return agent explained I was charged $170 for the rental. WTH!?!?! Of course he deferred to the desk personnel. They deferred to the corporate office. Easily accessed from baggage claim. The staff are very friendly. The cars in the garage are not organized well. There are signs for each rental company and the cars are coordinated by aisle and space number. However we rented through Budget and our car was in an Avis spot. It was frustrating as we were in a rush to get out of the airport. Check your cars for damage! They said our car was fine and there were two major dings in the bumper I could have been held responsible for had I not checked it first. I also spent the extra for a mid-size vehicle and I ended up with a Kia. The overall rental price was reasonable compared to other places and I was in a rush so I didn't have time to exchange it. I left an item in the back of car that I rented & after a month & half of leaving messages on their lost & found line & calling the corporate customer service numerous times- no one has gotten back to me! My husband and I rented a car for the weekend from the Charlotte airport location. A man named Robert helped us out. We added supplemental liability insurance as our personal car insurance does not cover rentals. This was an additional $15 per day, an extra $45 which we had no issue with and agree was better safe than sorry. Our car rental total was just under $100. We expected all together to pay around $150 (understanding taxes and what not could add just a little bit more). We discussed no other additional coverage options and Robert went on to the contract. He rapidly went through it, scrolling through and just pointing out where I needed to initial and sign stating everything in here is just what we had already gone over. We signed and went on our merry way. However, upon receiving my final bill they charged me OVER DOUBLE the expected price as Robert unknowingly added three additional optional coverage charges for the entirety of our rental! I was livid. So I called customer service to discuss the issue and have them explain all these extra charges. For example - PAE for personal bodily injury and loss of personal property if in an accident. We have our own medical insurance should I get in an accident, I would never in a million years add this onto my rental car coverage. Customer service was LARGELY unhelpful and rude. He just stated "well you signed the contract" after I had explained that I felt Robert acted in a very shady and dishonest manner adding these optional fees without my knowledge and hustling me through the contract signing. Customer service put all blame on me and did nothing. Needless to say, huge lesson learned on my part - ask point blank what you're signing and STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS SHADY AND CORRUPT BUSINESS!! read more

My rental experience yesterday at the Budget Counter in the Dayton Ohio airport was by far my most aggravating customer experience to date. I made my online reservation weeks in advance, but because I did not have credit card used to make reservation, My reservation would not be honored. The "Lead" associate and manager offered no solution other than to have me call Budget Customer Service. I could not believe the customer was expected to do the work! The Customer Service agent on the phone offered to make a new reservation using the credit card I had in my possession but that it would be $29 higher because of the "last minute" reservation. This is only a portion of the negative experience. I reviewed Yelp only after this experience. The other negative comments taught me a valuable lesson to review ratings before I book! read more

This Budget location is running a scam. I reserved and paid for a car for two weeks through priceline. I took the car back on 12-29 at 3 AM (2 hours before required time of 5:30 AM). Later I get billed $75.00 on my visa. They said it was returned 12-30. My flight and boarding passes showed I took a flight 12-29 at 6 AM. They are running a scam and charging for extra days even after the car is returned. No drop-box for the keys, no employees inside the terminal. I left the keys on the seat and boarded my flight. Be very careful when you're picking up your vehicle. This company (and Avis - they're the same company really) will try to load you up with all sorts of unnecessary add ons when you pick up your car, even if you've already made all your choices and submitted payment beforehand. The area in the Dayton terminal is very loud due to the close proximity of the baggage claim area and though the customer service rep we encountered was very friendly, she also talked and laughed so much that it was distracting and it was also hard to understand everything she was saying due to the noise. We ended up accidentally agreeing to very expensive additional insurance coverage, that actually cost more than our round trip tickets to Dayton! We didn't realize that we were signing to pay an additional fee - we thought we were signing to pay what we'd ordered online. When we returned the vehicle, we realized that we'd payed nearly $1000 for four days of a rental car! We tried to discuss this with the manager but he would not come out and talk with us. We tried calling corporate (numerous times) but they only stuck to the assertion that we had agreed to this and that "the manager heard us agree to this" (an impossibility since he was in the back, at the other counter, and the place was extremely loud anyway). In fact, we had stated emphatically several times during the CSR's spiel that we did NOT want any additional insurance. We will never use Budget or Avis again, though we travel often for business and pleasure and often use rental cars. VERY unhappy and I believe their actions were very, very unethical. They get bonuses for these add ons. PAY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION if you decide to give them your business. read more

Our flight was cancelled and we couldn't get another until the following morning. We had reserved a car from Budget months in advance. We called them to let them know our situation and that we still wanted the car we had reserved. The representative on the phone cancelled our reservation and proceeded to tell us that the car would now be $400 more. We questioned why when she confirmed that the car we reserved was still sitting at the airport. She told us because we did not pick it up at the original time. There was no way we were paying $400 more so we reserved a car in a smaller class for about $40 more. When we got to Dayton I was fully confident that we would explain our situation in person to the counter representative and get our original reserved rental car for the original price. He called the manager over and the manager told us that we should not have cancelled our reservation because we had 24 hours to pick up the car. He said there was nothing he could do. I still felt confident that after I returned home and contacted Budget they would apologize and probably compensate us the $40 more we spent for a smaller car. The response we got to the email we sent clearly showed that they didn't even read what we were complaining about. A second email was sent with the same response that didn't match the original complaint. I'm still a little in disbelief at the horrible customer service! read more
