I am absolutely insulted and offended that Dollar Rent A Car at the Dayton International Airport has accused me of smoking in their car and charged me a fine of $250. I picked up the car at 2pm on May, 13th and returned it at 4am on May, 15th (6am flight). I drove the car a grand total of 94 miles. No one walked out with me to inspect the vehicle when I picked it up. The car did smell, but it didn't smell like smoke to me. No one was there when I returned it on Sunday at 4am (drop box). For what it's worth, I've never smoked a day in my life. For the past 5 years I have been employed by a tobacco free health care system where we test all employees for tobacco use. I have already paid for two independent nicotine tests this week (one inside my organization and one outside for validation) showing ZERO NICOTINE (cotinine) in my system for the past 90-Days. My Staff Attorney is assisting me in preparing an affidavit stating I was the only individual in the vehicle during the time in question along with other legal documents in case we need to pursue arbitration through American Arbitration Association (based on Dollar's contract). I've reviewed the parameters and fees associated with adjudication and I'm sure I'll spend much more than $250 to make this right. Dollar opened a case on May 16th, but they have yet to contact me. I rented my vehicle online pickup was for Saturday I was sent a email with confirmation # and location of where to pickup vehicle went to pickup location at exact time I was scheduled to pickup my vehicle. The place was closed. I immediately called the customer service number on email no answer. I finally asked a driver that was taking people to car rental sites at Philadelphia airport he told me to go to Dollar rental car building once there renting car was a breeze until I returned vehicle next day at Dayton airport no one was there so I followed instructions and parked car and put key in lock box called them the next day because I left my carryon bag in trunk plus closed out rental I thought because 3 days later they charged my card $1548 which over-drafted my account and cost me $65 now fighting to get money back. I should have checked yelp before I booked with this place. However, I think I dodged a bullet this time. When I got there, they couldn't find my reservation because they'd logged it in with my first and last name reversed. After giving the lady my debit card and license, she then casually tells me that they run a credit check. Well my credit isn't fantastic and then proceeds to tell me that they won't rent me a car now. I asked her why and she ignored me. All attempts to speak to the agent were met with silence. Dollar rental at DAY - total fraud. I specifically denied extra insurance and upon taking the car back 4 days early because of the outrageous charge, I was told that 'that sales guy adds on things all the time in order to up his commission' - seriously?! They are aware and STILL continue to employ him? Unreal. Also, I had reserved the car at 137.50 for the week, he originally tried to charge me almost $400, I showed him my confirmation price, he said oh ok and I guess I should've checked the receipt. After he verbally told me the total would then be $200 with a $40 hold - I checked my card and they charged me $313! I will never use them again! read more

Our worst ever experience at a car rental. Not because our choice of rental was sold out and we were offered an upgrade. This was our worst experience ever because we were indirectly referred to as "not from America" I asked Sandra if our upgrade was the same price we booked at and she said "sure". So just to clarify I asked if that meant there was no extra charge. She replied saying "in America sure means..." that was the end. Sandra needs either a refresher course in customer service or needs to clean her glasses and realize she lives in a multicultural country. I could have easily replied to her comment with my 2 cents and that I was born and raised in this country just like her. But I know better and well at the end, it just shows the level of upbringing and education one has. read more

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! We walked in Sunday the 17th and wanted to rent a small vehicle until the following Sunday to return at noon. (The lady at the desk even repeated that back to us) The estimated price was 358 or around that number. We return on Sunday to find out we've been charged $598. The lady had put us down as a RESERVATION on the 16th and supposed to be returned the 22nd. We didn't make a reservation, we WALKED IN ON THE 17TH! Therefore we got charged 3 extra days. When calling corporate they refused to do anything and said it was our fault. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE & CON ARTISTS. Listen to the reviews and go somewhere else. This review is not focused on the actual staff at the rental car location but on the abysmal roadside assistance of the company. We rented a car in Dayton Ohio to drive to up state New York. Near Erie PA the 2017 vehicle stopped working - while on the highway driving. We safely got to the side of the road a very busy highway - near one of the options capitals of the US. It was still light outside and we called the roadside assistance. It was like it was the very first time they have ever received a call that one of their cars broke. Once we spoke to the agent for ~30 minutes she said she'd call us back once she found us another car and tow truck driver. 1.5 hours later two females on the side of the road with high semi truck traffic are still waiting for a call back. We called the company and they were still trying to figure it out- it was now dark outside. At this point in time our safety was at risk. We called our corporate travel office and they lined up a new car in Erie and Uber came to pick us up and take us to the rental car desk. When we called the company a couple of times to follow up and make sure they retrieved the car with no issues they were rude and annoyed that we were trying to get them their keys back in the most expeditious way. They were annoyed we were asking questions. It is now two weeks later and we still do not have resolution on the situation. read more

I rented from this dollar rent a car location...I brought the car back with the same amount of gas it had when I got the car-but I was charged $91.00 for not returning the car with full tank. Nothing was gone over when I was asked to initial various spots on the contract and I mistakenly assumed all I was signing were the various insurance I declined and usually at other rental agencies they are careful to go over everything/Not this company! I trusted them to handle a simple 2 day rental transaction fairly but found out they are simply unscrupulous. I called the co and explained what occurred and that no one checked how much has there was when I picked it up but they did not care & would not adjust one dollar of the discrepancy. I was overcharged not just for the half tank in question-but for the entire tank-at that-and at nearly $10.00 per gallon. This was unethical and not trustworthy & will NEVER again do business with DOLLAR rental cars. I suggest you get a rental car at Hertz. They are not the cheapest but at least they are ethical !! read more

I rented from them for the past 5 years when my family went on vacation, but NEVER AGAIN! I was given an upgrade into a small SUV that had basically the entire back as a blind spot, it did horrible on gas, and was dirty and out of windshield washer fluid. All that aside, I gave them a major credit card at the start of the rental, but at the end I decided to pay with my debit card. I went to the desk so they could run my card, and the money was out of my account the next day. The very next day an authorization shows up on my bank account for the amount of the rental. After they received payment they put a hold on my account for the amount of what I had already paid. When I called them about it, they basically told me that there was nothing that they could do to give me access to MY money, until they can talk to my bank, which had already closed during the 25 minutes I was on hold before I talked to anyone. I will NEVER rent from this company again, and I will strongly advise everyone I know, and anyone who asks me, to NOT do business with this company. read more

A solid one star rating across the board and for very good reason. It seems like they are very fond of hitting up the customers for charges after they have flown out and especially military and government employees. They did just that to me. Hit me for $200 on a BS damage charge. When I called multiple times to inquire about the charges, I kept getting blown off by the manager. I also experienced the same things that other reviewers have claimed: no attendant at desk and no garage attendant. Look at the other rental agencies in this airport and see they are all ranked higher. I have rented from Dollar many times with no issues but this location is poorly run at best and criminal at worst. DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM THIS LOCATION. read more

If you have a choice...don't. Arrived at the Dayton airport ~1815 on a Sunday and waited 16 minutes at the counter for a rental agent to show up - no sign or reason...just an empty counter. Car was fine and didn't have an issue with it. Returned the car at 0440 in the morning with a full gas tank and dropped the keys into the unlocked and overflowing box in the counter. Got home and they had charged my card a $14 refueling fee. Which is interesting since if they would have actually gone to the gas station it wouldn't have been able to take much gas since I filled up 4 miles away. Still trying to get resolution even though I sent them a photo of the dashboard at return and the receipt for gas. Dollar and its parent company Hertz are imposing fees on customers with no valid reason. Don't do it. read more
