I usually book the smallest/cheapest car I can get but had to go bigger this time because I would be traveling with my dad, who is 6'4". I rented a standard, thinking that would be big enough but, when I saw what was to offer in that size, realized I might have to go even bigger. However, I wasn't able to fit the extra cost into my budget and figured I could just push the seat all the way back to make my dad fit. When the lovely women working the check-in heard my concerns and what I was considering to stay in budget, they worked with me to fit both my dad in the car and keep me within budget. The Troy Ohio store has called us several times right before our pickup time and said they don't have a truck. One time they even asked us to change our travel days. This last time, I called the day before and asked. I was told that yes, the truck was washed and cleaned and even had running boards. She had it in the computer for us. I have been a long time customer both professionally and personally but this location is the worst. Twice I have been called the morning of pickup to be told they didn't have my vehicle. This really pissed me off because my wife called yesterday to double check about running boards and availability and was told yes it was already there and ready to go and did have running boards. Then 2hrs before picking it up today got a call say they didn't have it and tried to substitute for another vehicle. I was in the rental business for many years I completely understand shit happens but the outright lie is what did me in. Avis had what we needed and took great care of us. If you have to use Enterprise DO NOT USE THE TROY LOCATION!!!! Update: Chris M. I tried to contact you was on hold for 5 min. My reservation shows cancelled because I call the Vandalia office to see if they could help the lady there said it was canceled and she said Troy shouldn't have canceled so fast. From my experience Troy canceled to make it look like we ( the customer )no showed so it doesn't reflect on the branch that they tried a bait and switch on us. I had picked up a care at Enterprise in Albuquerque, NM (ABQ) and drove to Dayton to see my elderly parents (thanks, COVID...). The experience in ABQ was a disaster as they gave me a car covered in mud (windshield, mirrors, and I had to personally chip the ice away from the wheel wells to get the tires to move. After adding extra days to my rental to account for a freak October snow storm in NM, TX and OK, I drove to Ohio cursing my first terrible experience with Enterprise. However, when I dropped off the car in Dayton at the airport, I was greeted by the most friendly and helpful Heather (fully masked, but obviously smiling) who listened to my complaints with a smile and offered to keep the tab open so the customer care team could contact me about my experience for compensation. Not only did she put in my request, but she followed up several days later to see if the care team had phoned me. They had not, but it was a delight to chat with Heather again and restore my faith in Enterprise as a whole. Thanks a million, Heather! read more

Summed up: the car broke down, roadside assistance doesn't care about their customers, and they won't compensate you for losses. Would NOT recommend. Rented a car in Dayton, car broke down in the middle of nowhere between Dayton and Cleveland. Called roadside assistance and was told they would send a tow truck and a rideshare to take us to the nearest Enterprise location to get a replacement car, and that we would get an update once they located one for us. We called again after a few hours of waiting in the rain and the operators (who are impossible to understand through heavy accents) still hadn't found anyone for us. Originally they told us we would be going to one location but they took so long that that location closed before we would be able to get there so we had to go to one even farther away in order to be able to get a replacement car. We waited for 6 hours on the side of the road before the tow truck finally came. We had to ask the tow truck driver if we could just ride with them because an ride for us was obviously not coming. So we crammed inside the tiny cab of a tow truck and drove an hour in the wrong direction to get a new car. We ended up having to miss all our planned activities for the day, and pay extra for dinner and hotel in an unfamiliar city, while dealing with incompetent customer service. The people in Cleveland were at least nice when getting us a new car. When we end our trip, lo and behold we get a charge on our credit card for the entire bill. No compensation for lost time, extra cost, or inconveniences. The credit card won't let us dispute it either because we didn't have to cancel the car earlier than expected. I went to this branch last Thursday to rent a car which I already reserved online using University of Dayton promo code. At the counter, the lady refused to give me the car claiming that the promo code is only for UD faculty not for students, I opend the official UD PDF for the promo code which states that the promo code is for faculty and (students). She refused again. I went to the manager, he wasn't in the office then he entered saying "they just told me about your case and NO we won't consider the promo code because it's for faculty". I told him I have the official UD PDF and he said "I don't care what the PDF says". I told him that I have rented from Enterprise using that code, but he doesn't want to listen. I worked in customer service for several years before I switched careers. In my opinion, I feel everyone should work in customer service at one point in their lives; it's a humbling and character building experience. Having said that, I am highly disappointed in the customer service from Enterprise. I would have to say there was only ONE employee I encountered who was competent and customer oriented. I feel almost everyone else I spoke with and/or engaged with needs a refresher in customer service, including management. I made a reservation for a rental in advance, and when I spoke to a representative they reported they had no cars available! This was in early in the morning; they had just opened. I understood due to the representative reporting they were currently waiting for cars to be returned. By noon, the representative reported there were still no cars available. The representative was doing their best to assist me which I greatly appreciated. They took the time to call other Enterprise locations inquiring about their car inventories. I decided to call also to help the representative out who appeared to be swamped and this is where the trouble started. Each and every Enterprise employee I engaged with had no desire to assist me, choosing instead to "pass the buck". I was hung up on several times. When I would attempt to call back, the phone would ring several times before the call terminated. I was "transferred" several times only to be either transferred again or for the call to terminate. I was placed on hold for almost 10minutes at one point (I timed the call). Coincidentally, at almost every location the manager was "not in the office." As you can probably gather from my review, I was being led on a chase by Enterprise employees who more than likely "didn't want to deal with the difficult customer." Finally, the representative who had been assisting me initially was able to secure a vehicle. All in all, it took an USAA representative, several phone calls, and a conversation with a manager for me to finally obtain a vehicle. It took almost 10 hours for me to secure a vehicle despite having made a reservation. If you need a rental, I strongly advise AGAINST Enterprise. read more

We rented this vehicle from the airport, and the guy at the counter totally ripped us off. There was no transparency or honesty in anything he told us. We told him we did not know when we were returning it could be 3 pm or 7 pm. He said that it did not matter and put us down for 3pm. We returned the car at 5pm, and they charged us $100 for an extra day!!!!! The lady at the return department said it was our fault and did not get the concept of "doing the right thing". All in all this company is not honest and tried taking advantage of us...very sad and disappointing enterprise. read more

Aside from efficiency, 24/7 availability, quality vehicles affordable to most every budget, the staff is exemplary. I recently left a briefcase and expensive laptop in a rental. Was and easy and pleasant transaction! We had a hiccup when they returned our car two days early at a location that was hundreds of miles away from where we actually were while we still had the car. Contacted them and they took care of the issue immediately and even followed up but were unable to re-activate the satellite radio though. I rented a car from this location and my experience was great. I reserved a Compact car and I was asked if I would like to upgrade to a standard size. The guy at the counter asked me atleast 3 times whether I want to upgrade when I kept saying no. Would have given 5 stars if that guy didn't push me for an upgrade. When I received my vehicle it was completely dirty and covered in slush and salt from a previous winter storm. I asked why the car wasn't washed and the reply was "we don't wash cars in the winter." This particular location is really bad. Once I did the paperwork, I walked over to the location. They pointed out our car. When I examined it, I noticed that it was filthy. I told the guy and he totally blew me off by saying that what I saw were "water marks". I may not be a rocket scientist, but I can distinguish dirt from water marks. The guy simply lied. When I drove the car away, I found candy wrappers between the seats. I seriously doubt if I return. Enterprise is definitely moving in the wrong direction. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. This place runs criminal activity! Literally! They stole $500 from me! I went to pick up my car and gave my confirmation information to them. I said no extra this and that... No receipts given, nothing. The guy ended up charging me for an upgrade I didn't ask for, and every single insurance option for the car! When I checked my checking account I had been charged $900 for a two week rental in a crappy tiny car. When calling the customer service, they still haven't refunded me all $500 they owe me. I will NEVER rent a car from enterprise again, especially the Dayton airport rental. read more

easy pick up and easy return. representatives were helpful and friendly. only 4 stars because when i picked up the car i was offered gas refil at a significantly discounted price. i was told that they would refil the car for me upon return at the discounted rate. When i returned the car i was charged approx $30.00 for gas. I drove the car less than 30miles. I didn't even use 1/4 of the tank. The needle on the gas gauge hardly even moved. I went to the rental counter to ask about the $30 charge and the rep explained that I opted in for prepaid gas. Apparently I was prepaying for a full tank whether or not it needed to be filled. It was a total sham. I never would have taken that "deal." I was given the impression that the tank would be replenished and i would then be charged the low price for the gas that I signed up for. The rep was nice about it when I complained that i was duped and i didn't want to pay $30 for the $2.00 or $3.00 of gas I actually used. He refunded the money to me credit card. I got lucky that I was at the airport early enough to take care of the problem before I had to catch my plane home, but often time is tight when travelling and customers should not have to deal with these issues during travel even when the company reps are helpful. I will use enterprise again since they refunded the money without a battle. Don't get duped, don't prepay for gas unless youplan to return the car with an empty tank. read more

I rent from Enterprise all over the country pretty often. I rent from enterprise even though they are more expensive because usually the staff are nice and there is no hard sell. However, tonight I experienced some of the worst customer service. The guy at the desk was very rude and persistently pushed the extra insurance coverage, asked me who my insurance was " I have never heard of them whats your deductible" I ask why? He says in a very very threatening manner " you better not damage my car or you are responsible" At which point he swiped my card multiple times, with no receipts, as per the previous customer. I am worried I am going to get over charged and am shocked by the whole experience. On a positive note, the guy who showed me the car was very nice and helpful. In summary, I would avoid this particular enterprise, unless they get rid of some of their front desk staff.
